Cairan ran his hand through his hair.

Carlac had become the home of the Dark Empire upon their introduction to the galaxy. The Knights of Ren were associated with said Dark Empire. Cairan was associated with the Knights of Ren. As a consequence of all of that, Cairan had found himself spending a lot of downtime on Carlac. When he wasn't out doing Knights of Ren business or furthering his own goals, he found himself settled on Carlac just watching time pass him by.

Except for once he wasn't doing that. For once he had a purpose on Carlac. A business meeting he had arranged in the heart of Dark Empire space not furthering the Dark Empire's plans but furthering his own. He enjoyed doing things right under the nose of those he would eventually screw. He was almost certain some of the force users within the Knights of Ren and the Dark Empire at large would be able to figure out what he was doing but he didn't care. He'd kept enough of a low profile he doubted any of them would even notice what was doing.

A name had crossed his path a few times on the darker sides of the holonet. A bounty hunter with a reputation for getting the job done. Cairan had to admit, a bounty hunter with very few morales would be extremely useful to his plans. Someone who was willing to get the job done with no fuss would be well worth the credits, or favours, that it would cost to secure his services.

The Manipulator of Darkness sat down in the caf store. He'd decided he quite enjoyed the nickname the Manipulator of Darkness and he was debating keeping it permanatly. He'd selected it as a meeting place due to it's quiet, yet public nature. He ordered himself a cup of hot caf in order to fit in. He'd even opted to wear a white shirt under his typical trench coat to fit in even further. He figured if he was carrying out a shady deal he may as well not make it too obvious.

He sat, sipped his caf and waited for his potential business partner to show up.

Xander had finally landed on the snow-covered planet of Carlac.

Despite both steady reputation, and his love of money, he had yet to purchase his own ship. Now, it wasn't because he didn't want to, far from it. He just found it much more efficient to use provided ships, or using/stowing away on larger ships to travel to where he needs to be. One such time is now, as he left the cargo ship. He had recently received an an anonymous message requesting for a meeting to discuss a potential contract. Now, Xander wasn't going to turn that offer down. I mean, he loves money, so what harm would a potential semi-regular flow of income be? Well, that didn't matter much right now. All he needed to know was where he had to go to get said agreement.

After a while of wandering, he came across the store that was detailed in the message as to where he'd be meeting his new employer. Only problem was that he didn't know who he was meeting. He simply got the message one afternoon and, due to the promise of fairly good pay, he didn't really hesitate to make his way there. Now, he was kind of regretting his lack of forethought, especially upon recalling that he overheard it was the home of the "Dark Empire". Well, it was too late to change his mind now.

So (without much else to do) he entered the store and gave a quick scan of the room, noting a few individuals. There weren't many but the only one that mattered to him was that he may have found his employer. He approached the man, who was wearing a white shirt under a trench coat, and took a seat (silently hoping he got the right guy)

"Are you the one who contacted me about my 'business'?"

The man in the white shirt under his trenchcoat nodded.

His potential business partner wasn't stupid, that was a positive. He'd figured out who in the quiet caf shop was the man who had reached out. It wasn't overly difficult in all honestly, the trench coat helped. Everyone else was dressed quite simply in tunics and trousers and none of them looked like they knew how to even access the darker sides of the holonet never mind contact a bounty hunter.

"Depends who's asking" he said, taking a sip of his caf. "Your business selling me a chimney sweep? I'm not interested" his eyes danced across the male who had joined his table. "Next person to knock my door trying to sell me something is taking a blaster bolt through the skull" he chuckled, although it was clear he wasn't joking. "Though if your business is something a bit more useful, I might be swayed"

In the force, he reached out and began to probe the mind of his aquaintance. He wanted to try and figure out how the man ticked whilst also figuring out if there was any hint of force sensitivity there as well. His aquantance wouldn't see any of that though, all he would see was a man looking extremely uncomfortable to be wearing a shirt sipping a caf he'd spent way too many credits on.

"Shipbuilding, perchance. That's always a useful skill" he started again. "I think, however, your skill may be a little more useful than that" he continued. "I've been hearing your name a lot Draith, a man of few morals. Hell, some would say you're a man after my own heart. A little bit more a looker and I may have been swayed" he laughed, although again it was difficult to tell if he was joking.

"Why don't you tell me a little bit about yourself. Imagine we're on a date, though at the end of the date you may get a job out of it" he paused for a few moments. "I think they call that a job interview actually. Imagine you're on a job interview. What can you bring to my organisation"

Some would say Cairan was completely mad, that's for sure.

Well, this may be more of a unique agreement than he first thought. Now, it was not unique in a good way, he just hoped it wouldn't be like this for any future arrangements.

As a positive, he at least knew his employer wasn't completely unserious. The threat of blasting anyone through the head was a real one, no doubt about it. But, Xander's expression didn't change in the slightest at the man's threat. All he did was sigh before he decided to answer the man in front of him.

"Let's go in order, shall we? To begin: I can assure you, my business will be well worth your while... and credits. And please, feel free to put a blaster bolt in anyone you please. As long as it's not me, I don't rightly care."

Anyone could see it in his eyes: Xander wasn't joking. In truth, he could not care less what happened to others, just as long as it wasn't him. He continued, "Secondly: I'm pleased to hear I've made a good enough name for myself to gain the attention of a man of your position, sir. But, I'm afraid I'll have to take an interview route, I'm not interested in a date with a man. No offence."

He was silently hoping that his answer wouldn't result in his own death, not returning the man's 'flirting'. But, what can he say? He doesn't swing that way. Even so, the temptation of credits was too much to resist. So, he moved on and answered his final question. "Well, that very much depends on what you need. I'm the guy people hire when they need any job done. Assassination, escort, delivery, warnings, stealing, etc. Anything you may need an extra hand for, or anything you need done that you can't deal with, I'm your man. All I'm interested in is how much I get paid."

He looked his potential employer in the eyes and spoke, "And how much I get paid depends entirely on what it is you want me to do."

His employer was mad, no doubt about it. But, hey, credits are credits, right?

Cairan smiled towards his aquantance.

Credits were credits, and the bounty hunter understood that. He was willing to do whatever he needed to in order to be paid. The bounty hunder had listed multiple different jobs that he would be willing to conduct, and Cairan could sense through the force he didn't have much in the way of a morale code. Cairan couldn't deny it, the man would definitely prove useful.

His aquantance appeared to have little in the way of loyalty. His loyalty was to credits, not to people. It was a negative, of course. If someone's loyalty could be brought, there was nothing to say that the enemy wouldn't attempt to buy their loyalty just to spite you. Take your best assets away with the promise of more credits and cripple you instantly.

"A man of many talents" he started. "Assassination, escort, delivery" he continued, reciting everything that the bounty hunter had said. "All useful skills for a man like me to be able to call upon when they're needed. Can't make moves and secure control without disturbing some trade and ending some lives now can you" he smirked. "And hey, it looks better if it's someone else getting their hands dirty"

The Manipulator of Darkness cast his eyes over his new friend. "You have no loyalty, of that I'm aware. You're loyal to credits" he spoke, before taking a pause. "Now that's not a bad thing, but who's to say you won't stab me in the back the moment someone offers you more money. Reassure me investing in you is worth my time, Draith. Or else what's the point"

Xander allowed his face to show a smile upon what his acquaintance. His employer was smart at least, he couldn't say that for many of his past jobs.

The man in front of him knew what it meant for someone to be loyal to credits. It meant they weren't really loyal, just open to agreement. Well, this job opportunity was becoming more and more interesting as the conversation progressed, for Xander it did at least. Then, he answered,
"Well, sir, that entirely depends on what it is you tell me, ask me to do, and how much you pay. But allow me to put your... musings to rest. If you hire me, and we work out a semi-regular or regular partnerships, we won't have an issue. I may have a loyalty to credits, but I'm also aware of my own self-preservation."

That was no lie. It's what kept him alive against some of his past employers who questioned his loyalty. But, for good measure, he gave another answer alongside it,
"Besides, I tend to be a bit more closed to external offers when I know I have regular income, and if I'm paid in advance."

Some would call it a scam, but what else did they expect? He was a bounty hunter who took on various missions, it was nice to know he got paid before he carried out a political murder, for example. He referred to it as insurance that he wasn't being scammed himself.
"So, maybe, it's a risk you may want to take?"

"It's a risk you may want to take"

Cairan smirked, running his hand through his hair whilst he sipped his caf. The Bounty Hunter was good with his words, there was no denying that. The scoundrel had some skills that would come in useful, skills that Cairan could exploit and he already knew how to test just how good the man was. He knew just how to test if the man was telling the truth of if he was full of bantha dung.

"You may have noticed I've not been looking my best today" he grinned, gesturing to his face. It wouldn't have been highly noticable, but his nose was definitely busted up. He adjusted for the first time in his chair and let out a grunt. "Some absolute scum of a Jedi Knight decided to have his way with me on Tython, and as you can tell he gave as good as he took"

The Butcher licked his lips, pulling a stack of credits out of his pocket. Cairan flicked through them slowly before smirking. He placed the credits. on the table and slid them towards his aquantance, giving the Bounty Hunter enough time to count through them himself.

"I believe this covers my tab" he started. "Prove yourself to me, Xander Draith. I want the name of that Jedi. I want to know where he lives and where he sleeps. I want to know his daily routine and I want to know his nightly routine." Cairan paused for a moment, eyes fixed on Xander. "Hell, I want to know what skin care products he uses"

"I want everything, Draith"

Xander took a minute to count the number of credits given to him. It was less than his usual rate, but he took this as a payment from a trial perspective. Being tested to see if he can do his job before he can get regular payments. After counting up the credits, he placed them in a case and left it by his feet. He gave an amused smile as he turned back to his new employer, "Well, for a task of this manner, and this being our first agreement, I'll accept your task. I'll get back to you with your information, don't you worry. Then, maybe we can discuss more regular business?"

He didn't bother awaiting for an answer from the man, but instead picked up his case of credits and began to make his way out of the store, intent on getting his job done if it meant more credits. But, before he managed to leave the door, he suddenly stops and turns back to the man with a small smile.

"Oh, by the way, I will be requiring a few details, such as anything about his appearance, to help with this. Also, I will be assuming you're paying for all my expenses in this job, thanks!" Then, he left without another word, ready to carry out his job. The only thing he has to question in his head is why the man who hired him would want to know the Jedi's skin care products, but who was he to judge.

So, he left the shop with his credits and stowed away upon the the next cargo ship that goes closest to Tython, ready to find the Jedi.
