SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Can be used by itself or in a lightsabre or other item.
  • Allows the user some ability to pierce Force illusions whilst using it.
  • Extremely effective against spirits, especially those of the opposite alignment.
  • Attuning the crystal locks it to the user and their current alignment, forever altering the crystal mystically.
STRENGTHS
  • Locked to Wielder. Once the owner goes through a period of attunement to the crystal it becomes bonded to them. Its mystical properties will not work with another being after this. Crucially it also bonds to their Force alignment at that time, which can cause issues later.
  • Empowered Against Spirits. The crystal, if used in a weapon, is extremely proficient against spirits. It is especially strong against spirits of the opposite alignment; so a Dark attuned crystal is extremely strong against Light spirits.
  • Truesight. The crystal allows the one attuned to it to pierce many forms of illusion and deception easier. It is certainly not foolproof and much weight must be given to the relative power of the wielder vs the illusion, but it can be helpful.
  • Energy Storage. Outside of a lightsabre, the crystal can store or contain Force energy to be released for later usage. This is especially useful in alchemy, Alkahest, etc.
  • Cutting Blade. When used in a lightsabre, the crystal not only colours the blade, it can increase the cutting power of the weapon, in line with an Upari crystal.
  • Symbol of Success. On a more personal note, amongst those who know of it, the acquisition on this crystal is a worthy achievement. Though, since it attunes to one's Force alignment it may gain renown or infamy depending on the viewer!
WEAKNESSES
  • Locked to User. The downside of the attunement is that only the wielder can make use of the crystal's abilities. In a lightsabre the weapon simply will not function without the user's presence in the Force controlling it.
  • Fragile. The crystal is just that. Though empowered by the Force it is not by itself very resilient and a person with a hammer will very quickly shatter the fragile crystal.
  • Opposite Alignment Rejection. If one attunes to the crystal but has changed alignment, either from Dark to Light or the opposite the crystal will no longer obey them. It has become permeated with that side of the Force and will reject the wielder until they return to their original alignment.
  • Ysalimiri Nullification. In the bubble created by a Ysalimiri the crystal's mystical functions will not work as one might expect. However, if in a lightsabre it will still operate on a basic level.
  • Just a Crystal. The crystal ultimately is just that. Without strength in the Force, the tools and skills to utilise, it is just a fancy rock. On a more relevant level it also is not dramatically more powerful than other lightsabre crystals or alchemised items.
  • Hard to Acquire. Acquiring one of these crystals is a difficult process, requiring one to pass into the Dark Heart in Yarkul on distant Tygara. One must then overcome the mystical challenges put before them to finally acquire one.
DESCRIPTION
The Dark Heart on the remote world of Tygara is a strange place, a nexus of the Force which has warped into a trial for the bravest acolytes. In this place, one is tested by the Force itself, and many who have failed have joined the spirits of the slain. It is a place mostly ruled by the Dark Side of the Force, the remnant of an ancient artefact left there eons ago.
However, in this place of darkness there is an oasis of Light. A single tree set apart from the others stands against the Dark. This balance of the Force means that whilst the Light will never conquer the Dark, so too the opposite is impossible.

The dividing point though between Dark and Light is a place where the Force wars against itself, an immovable object set against an irresistible force (as it were). This boundary causes curious effects, and one of them are strange purple crystals to sprout like fungus nearby. These crystals are slow to grow and sometimes emerge cracked.

The name of this crystal was coined by the Vashyada descriptively as the 'Stone of the Revealed Heart'. This descriptive, though somewhat long name, is now generally replaced by the 'Parallax Crystal', an allusion to the scientific observation which fits well enough to be suitable. Some give it an even more simple name; the 'Heart Stone'.

It is probable that early pilgrims to the Dark Heart may have noticed these crystals, perhaps even used them, but they are not recorded. The first recorded user of one of these crystals was Tylania, the Paragon of the Vashyada, when she journeyed into the Dark Heart and retrieved one shortly after the War in Heaven. Later, she would recover another more recently when she was awoken from her stasis pod for the final time. Showing her change over the years and the revelation she experienced the two crystals now attuned show her former Dark self in contrast with her current Light alignment. She keeps the old crystal as a reminder of her past mistakes…and as a warning to herself.

Tylania, however, is not the only one to make use of these crystals. Adepts of both Dark and Light who survived the trials of the Dark Heart have returned with them, though after they eventually perished the attuned crystals became unusable to others and many are displayed as heirlooms by their ancestors.

More recently some outsiders have ventured into the forests, lured by promises of power and these mystical crystals. Most do not survive, though it is recorded that the Jedi Phylis Alince has successfully recovered one such crystal, though she has not added it to her lightsabre yet. Perhaps she prefers green to violet!
