DESCRIPTION
The Type-12 Assault Rifle was originally designed for infantry units as a simplistic, yet advanced blaster rifle that could be quickly reloaded, dish out a relatively high volume of firepower, and packing enough of a lethal punch to compete with and even out perform other designs of its kind. The idea was to provide a standard battlefield alternative to the Type-55 Individual Infantry Weapon System (http://starwarsrp.net/topic/66298-paragon-enterprises-type-55-individual-infantry-weapon-system), which was better suited for designated marksmen, ship boarding operations, and urban warfare. In an open battlefield, however, a better automatic rifle was deemed preferable to Hapan Marines.
The weapons boasts three barrels arranged in a triangular formation, shrouded by a flash suppressor nozzle. Each barrel had its own cycling system, but was connected to the same X-citer component, which drew more ammunition to fire successive bolts of blue-white lethality, each bolt having about the same power as the average rifle. However, there was no room for a dedicated cooling system for each barrel, which meant that the gun should not be fired off in rapid succession since overheating is a potential problem facilitated by the ease of reloading on the fly. Such an issue would likely occur after consumption of one and a half ammunition packs if the gun wasn't allowed to cool every couple of seconds or so. The degree of stopping power each shot packed also meant recoil would be an issue, which prompted the outer shell of the Type-12 to be shaped ergonomically to help handle it.
The ammunition port was flared to make it easier to get a fresh ammo pack into the weapon relatively quickly while permanent magnets assisted in swiftly locking it into place. Reloading was as quick and simple as sliding the ammo pack into the easily-utilized slot and the magnets would draw it up and lock it into place; no fumbling with lining up the pack with the slot exactly while being shot at. The ammo release mechanism used a button easily squeezed by the thumb, which used an internal lever system to force the ammo pack off of the magnetic dock inside. If the gun overheated, it was designed to automatically shut its cycling system down and cease functioning until its standard cooling system dumped off the excess heat (which, in pitched combat, could leave a soldier unable to fight back at range). Short, controlled bursts, even in full-auto mode, is strongly advised.
Selective fire allows fully automatic fire and three-round burst fire options. Fully automatic fire allows for a soldier to quickly and easily fight and dispatch targets as well as pummel armour and shields, although apart from ammunition cost, accuracy is sacrificed at longer range, despite efforts to minimize the spread of the bolts. Burst-fire mode gives greater accuracy at range, in practice, at the cost of firing rate. Optional attachments compatible with the weapon include an infrared-capable smart-scope that links to compatible gear, a grenade or ion-bolt launcher, a vibro-bayonette, a liquid-cable grappling line launcher, and laser-sight. The on-board ammunition counting system also timestamps each shot and reload, which can be accessed later for a variety of reasons from statistics to investigation.
