Description:
Grounds : Behind Palekana, a lush mountainous jungle extends deep behind the home. Thick and tropical, there are no footpaths for exploration and one must be a skilled outdoors-sentient to navigate properly. Within the jungle grows various native flora and fauna, some edible. In front of Palekana lies a rock-strewn beach, located in a bit of a cove for protection. The nearest neighbors are several clans of fishing tribes who banded together to have a small village. The land once belonged to the tribes before being bought by the Dashiell family.
Defenses/Structure : Small, personal force dome that covers the home and several feet of the grounds only.
Basement : Running along the entire bottom of Palekana is a thick, stone base which allows the home to be higher off the beach. In addition to its practical purpose of keeping the home away from storm surge, the thick stone base serves as the foundation for the basement. The basement runs underneath the house and extends outward to include the patio structure adjacent to the home. One half of the basement contains normal, family structures. In the regular side a playroom and living room and refresher take up the space. Separated by a thick stone-and-steel wall along with a blast door contains a 'panic room' in addition to housing security controls. The panic room has been set up to look like a studio apartment, with a kitchenette and furniture that converts into bed-like structures. A massive pantry located under the patio is connected to the panic room. The pantry contains enough consumables for a family of four to live comfortably for seven months.
Ground Floor : The ground floor contains a chef's kitchen, open to the living room to provide optimum entertaining space. In addition, there is a guest room and bathroom on the first floor as well, opposite the communal spaces of the home. On this floor much of the space opens to the outdoors and the beautiful beach. Wooden shutters can be closed in the evening to keep out unwanted creatures. In the event of a typhoon or attack hidden metal hurricane shutters roll down at the press of a button to add a measure of security and safety.
Second Floor : The topmost floor contains the sleeping quarters for the Dashiell family. Two smaller rooms and a bathroom are divided up on one side of the top floor. The master suite, master bath and small office/sitting area take up the rest of the space on the uppermost floor. Due to the pitched roof, ceilings are tall and give an airy feeling to the space. Seeing them as potential weakness, the reed roof is actually covering a much stronger, traditional metal and wood roofing system. As with the ground floor, hurricane shutters have been installed for safety.
