- Structure Name: Palace of the Engineers.
- Classification: Governmental Building.
- Location: Mahporeem.
- Affiliation: Mahporeem Imperial Remnant.
- Accessibility: Accessibility to the Palace of the Engineers is rather inconsistent depending of which part of the building one wishes to access. The more public areas are highly accessible, and large parts of the building can be seen by scheduling a tour on site or through the holonet. Yet, many other parts of the building are totally inaccessible to the general public, as the Palace of the Engineers contains the offices and living spaces of some the highest echelons of the Mahpoorenian government, such as the office of High Commander Victport Graras, Internal Minister Zesiro, External Minister Prystill Oasay, and many others.
- Description: Though described as a "palace", no royalty walks through the halls of the Palace of the Engineers. Instead, the building serves as the residential and legislative home of the High Commander and his various ministers. Here, important decisions are made daily about the future of Corrox, Mahporeem, and the entire Mahporeem Imperial Remnant. Such an impressive and ancient building has seen nearly the entire history of the Imperial Remnant come to pass before it, and serves a a reminder of Imperial authority across both the planet and the galactic sector.
- Broadly speaking, the Palace of the Engineers is divided into two distinct sections: the public wing and the private wing. The public wing is, as one might imagine, the area of the building that is open to the general public, provided those visiting have scheduled tours in advance. Anyone who has done so has free reign of this part of the building, though governmental agents are present within the area at all times and the area itself is under heavy surveillance. The private wing of the Palace of the Engineers is where governmental officials live and work, keeping the Imperial Remnant functioning. This part of the building is only accessible to those with proper clearance, as it contains things like residential quarters, the office of the High Commander and the various ministers of Mahporeem High Command, a multitude of meeting rooms, an archival room, and a "panic room" should the building itself ever happen to come under direct attack. The private wing also contains all the amenities one might expect such a building to have, such as a fully staffed kitchen, dining rooms, laundry rooms, entertainment suites and numerous washing facilities with refreshers. Rumor has it that the palace also contains a prison and genetics lab, but so far these reports remain unverified outside of those who have access to the private wing.
- Maximum: Surveillance Cameras, Weapon Scanners and armed guards are the first things that greet anyone trying to gain access to the public wing of the Palace of the Engineers. The private wing of the building is even more secure, containing silent alarms, Sentry Turrets, Laser Gates and Blast Doors, along with even more organic and droid security than what is on display in the public wing. Much like Collaboration Tower, a large portion of the building requires Code Cylinder access in order to navigate through it. Many have complained that the Palace of the Engineers is confusing to traverse through, and they would be right. Because it was constructed out of a former prison, the building can be difficult to get through in order to deter prisoners from escaping. Now, such a design features serves to slow down any would be attackers trying to get through the building. The building itself is constructed primarily out of Permacrete, Duracrete and Glasteel, making it highly resistant to attack, and ensures that the Palace of the Engineers will remaining standing for centuries to come.
Long before it was known as the Palace of the Engineers, Prison Complex 23 served as just one of Mahporeem's many labor camps that could be found dotted across the planet. The events of OPERATION: CINDER and the planet's rebellion against the First Galactic Empire however would soon change this, as loyalist Imperial personnel, formerly enslaved alien laborers and the native Merzoidian population fought off the remaining forces of the defeated Galactic Empire, preventing them from destroying the planet. Yet, unsure if the Empire would return, or if they would be attacked by the nascent New Republic, it was decided to temporarily move the provisional government's headquarters into the complex, as a form of insurance against any renewed attacks. Eventually, this "temporary" move became permanent as the building's value as a fortress was realized, and soon the structure was renamed to the "Palace of the Engineers", where Mahporeem's three man ruling council would reside for nearly a thousand years.
Over the centuries, the Palace of the Engineers was expanded, modified and repaired, and the building is a far cry from when it was first constructed by the Empire. It now houses Mahporeem High Command within its walls, along with the two remaining members of the planetary triumvirate and scores of various governmental workers and ministers. While some parts of the building are accessible to the general public, most of what goes into governing the Imperial Remnant happens behind closed doors, and as Mahporeem continues to expand its presence across the galaxy, the Palace of the Engineers will only continue to become an evermore visible symbol of Imperial and Mahporeenian might.
