Outline for GBA rules, v1.0

As much as some of us enjoyed JVS, this site is a different path of evolution. Different rules, different culture, different bad habits. And invariably, the rules will have to accommodate that over time. No need in bogging the GBA down with pre emotive rules, building roadblocks to bridges no one was ever going to travel in the first place.

We will keep it simple to begin with and change as needed.

So that makes it unanimous, I think. Here's what we've got so far, in no particular order:

  • There are currently no banned or restricted Force abilities. Any problems that arise will be addressed, but we're not trying to get out in front of this thing and guess all the ways the Force will be abused.
  • Focus on gradually reigning in excessive Force use and guiding fighters to something approaching balance with judgments and advice more than specific rules.
And that's about it that everyone has agreed upon. Sometime this afternoon and evening, I'm going to sit down and draft up a simple set of rules for the fighters.

Something I think we'd do well to adopt is the Second Chance system from the Factory and Codex. Way back in the day it was possible for the losing side to request the fight be rejudged, but that got nixed because it was being abused horribly by a not insignificant number of writers. I reckon we can make it work here, but with some slight modifications.

Players who think they've been incorrectly judged may request a Second Chance. They will go to the appropriate thread, where they will link the match and state their case. It's not enough to simply have lost. They have to be able to point out something significant that the judge might have missed, or that was read wrong, or whatever else that could feasibly have affected the outcome. If they have accusations of favoritism or bias, this is probably where we'll see them.

The claim will be reviewed and, if it's decided that they might be onto something, a new judge will review the fight. If they're full of it, the judgment stands. There will be no penalty for substantiated claims, and one or two that don't pass muster won't count against someone. However, if they repeatedly try to Second Chance duels without having anything to back up their claims, they may lose the privilege.
