Private Outcasts

Aren was feeling a little out of sorts, and she didn't know why. Her life had recently taken a turn for the better, and she had been making good credits working with the Mandalorians. She shook her head as she walked the run-down streets of a familiar haunt of hers on Denon. This was where she hunted and searched for the low, those lost to their miser,y and wouldn't be missed by any family. In theory, at least. So far, she had been able to collect and experiment on these people without getting caught.

She was confident that she wouldn't get caught and quickly selected her next target. A young man in drab garb leaned heavily against the wall of the filthy alley. Just the kind of person she was looking for. One who had decided this was the end for him and threw his life away on drugs or drink. She would offer him a chance at a better life and leave out that he might die in the process. Many of her attempts had lived on and moved beyond her touch. However, some of them had died, and she needed to remove the evidence of her actions.

Approaching the stranger, she held a ration bar out to him. There was a good chance he hadn't eaten and would take the offered food.

"Would you like a second chance at a better life?"

Objective: Uncover the Reports of Missing Civilians

Prior to committing to go undercover after hearing about the reports of random civilians - the homeless and lost. Kas figured by going in disguised and dampen his presence in the Force just in case there were Dark sided disciples involved. A few concerned and better state civilians reported the incidents that were mysterious not able to get further intel or details yet though.

Fast forward to the present - Kas sat down in the streets committing to the homeless and lost outlook to set the tone to find out the culprit or culprits behind the scheme going on here. Kept his awareness up all while waiting to be approached.

There were footsteps making their approach toward him and saw the food ration bar being offered. Perhaps this was the very culprit that is responsible for the missing civilians reported in.

Stretched out in a weak manner, obviously faking, none the wiser would Aren D'Shade Aren D'Shade pick-up on this method of undercover strategy. Took a hold of the ration bar ready to eat it.

"A-a second chance..? F-for a better life? M-maybe.. What do I need to do..?" Kas asked Aren.

gatf6L6.png

It was a good thing that Aren was usually horrible at reading people. The fact that Kas was faking his weakness was lost on her, and she bought his ruse entirely. She was searching for a down-on-his-luck person, and she had found him. Handing him the ration bar to eat, she stood up straight and waited to answer his questions.

Leaning closer again, he certainly needed a bath and a change of clothes. Not yet offering that or trying to take him away, she allowed him to eat a few bites before speaking.

"The opportunity to become something more than you are currently."

He asked what he needed to do, and she paused again, adding drama and perhaps a hint of suspense. Standing up, she gazed around them at the others, lost to their misery, and motioned to them.

"You would need to leave these streets behind. Cast off these shakles that hold you back and come with me."

She left out some details, but they would only succeed in scaring the poor man away.

The use of disguising and masking his true identity and intentions was paying off so far with Kas taking some bites of the ration bar. His eyes followed Aren as she stood up and gave him space while she was answering some of his questions albeit she remained vague in them.

In hearing that Aren mentioned he will become more than what he currently is. It registered why perhaps other homeless civilians had fallen victim in later being reported missing. Kas nodded his head to Aren in showing to her that he wanted to be capable of doing more. All part of his ruse to go deeper into the realm of an unknown scenario. To learn about it and put an end to it.

"I want to be more. I want to do more." Kas said to Aren giving the woman what she wanted to hear.

Kas mentally noted that it seemed whatever Aren was doing here there had to be more involved possibly. A system of sorts as civilians were taken from the streets and not sighted again.

He looked up to Aren as she stood over him while he remained to maintain his homeless and hopeless outlook cover for the woman to press against in luring him out but all part of the plan. Sometimes one has to be the bait themselves to catch the predators and stop them.

"I will leave these streets they've done me no good since entering them. I want to break free." Kas replied and continued to the undercover mask as he finished the ration bar.

The young man stood up as he was ready to follow Aren and get out of the streets. Questions remained on his mind but alas there had to be trust earned to go into the lion's den. Allowing silence to sweep between them as Kas was ready to journey with Aren.

She didn't know what had happened to the man she held under her thumb to get him where he was now. That was something she could maybe discover in time. Then again, it didn't really matter to her. His past was his secret, and she could wipe that away. Make him into something new that is stronger and better. When he said he wanted to leave the streets, she held out a hand to him.

"Then come with me. My name is Aren."

Leaving off anything else, it would make finding her identity harder if he changed his mind. Not everybody truly wanted what she offered. Those were memory-wiped and returned to the streets. She thought what she offered was something nobody could resist, but once in a while, there were. Aren might not be the best person, but she tried to make these people's lives better.

At least, that's what she told herself. She very much thought she was doing good. Others might not feel that way.

Better to not make-up a backstory and go off topic from what is currently going on in the here and now. The detail and presence that Arena represented in attempting to change others' lives no wonder some have gone missing. Never to be heard from again by any family or friends.

Kas saw the arm and hand stretched out from Aren where she introduced herself to him. Now he has a name to go with. He looked up and gently gripped her hand with his own. Hauled himself up to his feet and was ready to head off with her to the next location.

"Jax. Jax Eirson. I will." Kas thought it'd be best to use an alias. Force knows what can happen in revealing his true identity to a complete stranger. Especially a suspect in his investigation.

gatf6L6.png

The strength of the grip was something unexpected, but Aren didn't think much of it. Maybe Jax hadn't been on the streets for very long. That could explain why he was still so strong. Mentally shrugging, she was quiet for a moment.

"To get you where we're going, you need to trust me. Do you trust me?"

When she heard that he trusted her to get them wherever they were going, she wrapped her hand around the shoulder of his tattered coat.

"Just close your eyes and we'll be there in just a few seconds.

Unless he struggled or fought against her action of grabbing his coat, she would teleport them from the ground and into her flat. A secret floor in a skyscraper in another part of the city world. He would be able to tell they were inside a building immediately.

"You can open your eyes.. Make yourself comfortable."

So as not to scare or startle new arrivals, she had taken them to something that looked like a comfortable office.

Once the grip had been acknowledged by Aren the next activity to focus on was keeping his cover and maintain the disguise he bore. Kas placed his trust in Aren when she requested it from him. Kas cooperated with her as he felt her hand rest upon his shoulder. Noted the energy emitting from Aren to discover her feat.

"I trust you, Aren." Kas said in a soft tone maintaining that guise of the homeless and hopeless individual he posed as.

Followed her instructions Kas closed his over and let everything take its course. He didn't fight or resist against her. Next thing he felt and knew was the difference in the air, temperature and location.

Opened his eyes to find himself in a nicer and welcoming environment. It was there Kas had realized that Aren had the ability to Teleport. Now this made sense in how many fallen victim had no trace remaining.

"Huh. How did we end up here? Is this close by?" Kas questioned but he knew there were possibilities through applications of the Force to make rare feats possible. Maintained his cover and continued to play along.

The young man stood in the Office and waited to see what Aren would do or say next with him being here.

gatf6L6.png

Things were going far easier than usual, and maybe that should have raised Aren's danger sense. However, she had gotten cocky and didn't think anything was going wrong. When the man started asking how they ended up where they were, she tried to soothe his nerves a bit.

"Not close by. I can use the Force and bring us here. This is my home office. Make yourself comfortable, Jax."

Taking a seat at her desk, Aren turned on her dataterminal and started typing in information. He had given her a name, but what she pulled up on it wasn't right. Leaning to one side to look at him and then back at the various images, she saw that none of them matched.

Something was off, and she didn't know what.

"Where are you from, Jax?"

Hoping that getting additional information from him might help in her cause, she waited for his answer.

Now it made sense as Aren confirmed in her own words that she was a Force Sensitive. There was this confidence perhaps over-confidence coming from the woman he met on the streets of Denon. Kas played off being the nervous individual to keep his cover intact before Aren.

"Not close by? Huh? Wait a minute you're not one of those Jedi, Sith types are you?" Again Kas playing it dumb.

Kas watched Aren get settled as she sat down by her desk. He heard and watched her typing away on a data terminal. No doubt there'd be background checks being done on him with the name given.

"Huh. Oh Nar Shaddaa. Good luck in trying to find any info me. I wasn't born in fortunate luxuries." He said.

Kas walked around to explore the apartment as Aren was occupied with searching and trying to match-up his alias he used to keep his cover going for as long as it can go.

gatf6L6.png

In an attempt to keep Jax calm, she shook her head when he asked if she were a Sith or Jedi.

"No, I'm not either one. I am just me. A girl who can use the Force and I help make people into something better than being unwanted and on the street."

Since Aren wasn't suspecting anything yet, she wasn't keeping any of her thoughts or feelings hidden from somebody who could also use the Force. When she spoke, he would be able to feel that she believed what she said.

"You don't have to be born in fortuante luxuries to have a record."

He wouldn't be able to explore much of her apartment as the office door opened to what looked like a blank wall. This was as far as he would be allowed to walk before she stood up.

In as non-threatening manner as she could, she gave him a slightly dirty look.

"The information you gave me has to be inaccurate. There is no record of a Jax Eirson on Nar Shaddaa. Now tell me who you are."

Not yet ready to try pulling the information from his mind, she would give him another chance to tell the truth.

Kas listened and observed Aren after he did a bit of exploring and scoping out the apartment she lives in and owns. No signs of any previous individuals that had been reported missing. Now he has to confront her.

"Huh. Make people better than what they're current enduring. How do you do that Aren?" He asked her.

Through the Force Kas was able to detect the feelings that Aren had brewing within her person. Odd that he discovered she was one hundred percent believing what she said. No matter he'd see what lay ahead of them.

"It is? Sure your systems aren't glitching or bugging out on you?" Kas putting up some delays to continue examine Aren as she was working away to gather intel on the false alias he provided to her.

The young man folded his hands inside of his jacket pockets where his Lightsaber hilts were stashed inside the hidden pockets on the inners of the jacket he wore. Watched Aren stand up and give him a dirty look.

"Woah! Sound a bit tense there Aren. Why do you need my information anyways? I am a nobody from the streets." Kas stood his ground to continue exhausting his alias cover out to Aren.

gatf6L6.png

"I can always run a diagnostic on them, but they've never bugged out before. Once I get any trace of people erased from the system, I make sure to purge them of any addictions and give them a new life."

It was the truth, just not the whole truth. Sometimes, the act of getting them through their addiction withdrawals caused them damage. Death even once in a while, but that was rare. When that did happen, she had already erased their records, and they were never found.

Backing down slightly when he pointed out she was tense. With a huff, she turned back to her computer and began running the diagnostic that had been discussed earlier. Watching him out of the corner of her eye, she was starting to get the feeling there was something more to him.

Trying to sound calm and appeasing, she still believed what she said.

"I need your information to make sure it gets wiped. You're getting a new life. Something better than what you had on the street."

Kas folded his arms and hands over each for a brief moment but not dropping his guard all while Aren was kept preoccupied in running her computer systems. He was listening to what the woman was describing eith the processes she implements to apparently help give others new lives. Noble perhaps but there are catches.

"So you'd purge anyone's addictions, set-backs and give them a new life just like that? No catch, no cost, no deals?" Kas questioned Arena as it sounded too good to be true without certain liabilities.

Kas felt there were details and other pieces of information that perhaps Aren didn't open up with. The young Jedi undercover was cautious about what the slicer can do. Being capable of altering individuals' records that was really suspicious and to an extent breaching certain laws and rules.

People giving their information to a complete stranger when picked by Aren from the streets to get a possible second chance at life. Wiping a record there are always drawbacks with that unfolding.

"Why would you need to wipe it all? Surely you'd get found out or records would revert back to original status."

gatf6L6.png

"Well, I try, but there are no catches or costs. And no deals."

As Aren tried one more time to find any holonet information about Jax Eirson. Giving up, she turned her datapad off and looked at her guest. She wasn't angry, irritated, but not mad. He was lying to her about his identity, and she wanted to know why. Everybody had a mark, left a trace, and she was an expert at finding them.

"In giving a person a new life, all traces of the old one need to be wiped. I haven't been found yet, and once the prime record was altered, they couldn't revert."

She was being honest and open with the stranger because she was confident in her ability to erase his memory of this meeting. He would have the answers he wanted, but all too soon, the information she told him wouldn't matter. Once she got the correct identity from him, she could then begin again in giving him a new future.

"Do you understand better why I need accurate information? What is your real name?"

If he insisted on telling her his name was Jax, then she would have to try to get it from his mind. He wouldn't be the first she would need to pry open but most of the low didn't seem to want to hide who they were.

Kas discreetly placed a hand round to the under layer of his jacket to grip his Lightsaber hilt but not igniting the beam. Slowly as he maintained a firm grasp on the hilt just in case Aren would turn hostile against him. It slide out from the inner pocket of his jacket.

"That sounds all too good to be true, Aren."

He kept his arm and hand that held his Lightsaber hilt but revealing it in the open just yet. His senses didn't pick up anything hostile from the woman as the pieces to the investigation that Kas performed so far were coming together. Now he knows quite a bit of the process but there were perhaps one or a few more aspects to gather from Aren.

"The keyword there yet and what happens if someone was able to uncover all of this? Surely you'd have been in hiding perhaps abandoned this whole operation if it were discovered by the outside. You would need folk to lose any recollection of this."

Now he was pressing a bit with his last questions and statements posed towards Aren. It definitely was quite the operation for anyone to undergo and set this all up without having trouble. However, nothing last forever and nothing is ever perfect.

"You want to know my name? Alright. Firstly, you are under arrest in the name of the Republic. I am Kas Larsen."

It was revealed his true identity and Kas waited for both a reaction, a response from Aren. Expecting this to turn violent perhaps he couldn't ignore that fact or detail. His fingers wrapped around the Lightsaber hilt bracing himself for any offensive engagement.

B1ojkOj.png

Aren was much better at working with and reading technology and droids than she was with people. So when his demeanor changed, she didn't pick up on it right away. Only when he started speaking again did she notice the change. His question drew her up short, and she lowered her hands from her keyboard and desktop.

Rarely did any of the people she brought here ever consider things beyond their next meal. This man was different. Somebody who was more aware of what might happen, and then he broke the ice out from under her. But he didn't attack her. Instead, he waited.

"What are you waiting for?"

Finally, she noticed his hand was inside his jacket. Was he holding a blaster at her? Was he waiting for her to attack? That seemed to be the most likely reason for his reluctance. Make the bad guy move first. She wasn't going to give him that.

"I didn't think the Republic cared about the low ones—the ones they allow to fail and fall. I offer a better life than they have. What's wrong with that?"

Maybe there was a tone of defeat, but Aren wasn't going to give up easily. She wasn't going to fight either. That appeared to be what Kas was ready for, and she wanted to keep him guessing. Keep him off guard, so maybe she could escape.

Kas watched and waited to see what kind of reaction that Aren would have opposing him with his revelation in unveiling his actual identity to her. Kept alert and aware the Padawan Learner would stop this operation that Aren had committed to. There were drawbacks in what she done and he has exposed perhaps a few of them.

"I'd like for you to come quietly. Don't make me use any kind of force to detain you, Aren."

Kas said to Aren all while keeping one of his hands near his jacket where a lightsaber hilt was reachable in case the Slicer would try anything against him. There had been a spike of tension in the air between the two of them. Listened to Aren's words that she spoke about how the Republic apparently abandoned the civilians.

"The Republic do care and there are better ways to help individuals that are unfortunate in life. There are bad eggs everywhere, in every government, in every faction and so on. Doesn't mean the entire sect should be painted by the same brush where there are others who do try to help."

The words spoken by Kas were firm, honest and considerate as he understood that not everything was set out to be perfect. No matter if one was rich, healthy or poor, ill. He is a Jedi and will do whatever is possible to others' live their life without chaos ensuing it. Even if it does mean there are laws to abide by that have been evaded loosely by the politicians and their political intentions.

Not faltering from his focus in the present moment he was facing while inside of Aren's apartment and office. He remains cautious unsure what Aren was going to do or say next with their paths now crossing over.
