Description: The Osaji Portable Energy Shield (OPES) is the Syndicate's attempt at creating a useful, and therefore popular, piece of technology on the black market. The shield generator is designed to be compact and portable, so almost anyone can carry it on their person and activate it when needed. This specific version, as with most standard Personal Energy Shields, is most effective at blocking blaster bolts and other energy attacks. It also has the power to withstand lightsaber strikes (assuming they have a standard crystal which does not effect the cutting ability or heat of the blade). What it can not withstand however is constant pressure from such a blade. Since this is an Energy Shield, it suffers the same disadvantages as most. The shield uses large amounts of energy to stay active, and so the average 'up-time' with a standard power cell for this shield is 10 seconds. This could be enough time for someone to wear out their opponent or force them to reload, but it is nowhere near a permanent combat defense. It should be noted that the shield also suffers from Ablation, which is where the shield heats up with each hit it takes. Usually the shield can withstand a moderate attack until its power is depleted, but any major or extremely fast barrage of attacks may force the shield to disable prematurely. One other weakness that could be noted is that the shield only covers the person the way it is facing, and is not a 360 degree shield like standard Personal Energy Shields. However, it is slightly more durable and effective than such a product. There are plans in future versions to improve the technology into withstanding other forms of attack, but so far the ones listed above are its limits.
