Description:
Constructed using his own funds as a personal place of sanctuary and meditative retreat, Oricon Fortress stands several miles away from the former site of Darth Vitus' compound, that place in all but ruins, the location cleared by construction crews in order to allow the new fortress to be constructed into the rock. It sits far above the lower surface of the planet, immune from the destructive molten lava that flows below - though Sith engineers were forced to create tunnels beneath the structure to divert magma flows that might bubble up and prevent it from causing damage to the main structure. A series of low-level ray shields are kept in place around them to ensure this.
The citadel is powered by a series of Geothermal Power Generators built into the lower levels of the structure, feeding off the abundant thermal energy of the planet to keep it well supplied. These provide power for the lights, air scrubbers (designed to filter out the noxious gases produced by the planet's volcanic activity), electrical systems and the Guardian-class Shield Generator, which serves to protect the citadel from bombardment. However, aside from the shield systems, the fortress has no other defense mechanisms - thus, with the shield down, it is entirely vulnerable to attack from the air or space. That said, the remoteness of the location is considered sufficient protection.
The interior of the fortress has multiple different levels, the uppermost level providing an observation spire and personal office. The lower floors contain living quarters, a training facility and armoury, kitchen facilities and, naturally, an extensive personal library. A private repository exists within that requires Tirdarius' personal access codes and command key, which he keeps on his person at all times. Contained with the repository are many of the artifacts and esoteric trinkets he has collected over the years, and it is for this reason that it is kept well-concealed within the library, accessible only to those who know how to reveal the entrance. A basic medical facility is also kept on-site, with a GH-8 Medical Droid present to provide care for any of the fortress' inhabitants.
The lowest level of the fortress contains a small hangar, capable of holding up to a half-dozen ships, including Tirdarius' own personal vessel. Landing systems are automated, and require only an approved transponder code to permit an incoming vessel to land within the fortress grounds, ensuring that the facility itself need not be manned for ships to arrive. This ensures that there are few staff required at the fortress: maintenance needs are met by a small number of Repair Droids, capable of cleaning and servicing the complex as required. Thus, the Fortress can remain largely empty unless Tirdarius and/or his apprentices are in residence.
History
Following the collapse of the One Sith and the scattering of Sith forces, Tirdarius moved to establish himself a home in seclusion, something a little more remote than the apartment he has maintained on Coruscant, and far less overt than his quarters in the abandoned Sith Temple on Korriban. Having previously visited Oricon on several occasions, he chose it as a suitable place for more permanent residence, and had his fortress commissioned using subsidiaries of those construction companies known to be loyal to Sith interests.
The site upon which the fortress now sits was covered in molten rock and ash when construction crews arrived, and they were forced to clear away much of the debris to create a stable foundation. Although a magma stream moved along the site, the engineers were able to build around and above it, using ray shielding to protect the fortress from heat erosion. This now descends down the side of the cliff-face, gradually cooling to form further rock build-up.
Finally completed shortly before the Sith return to the Stygium Caldera and the bombing of Korriban City, Tirdarius now maintains it as his personal private residence, once kept secret from the others of his order, a place of seclusion he can return to when he seeks time for contemplation or even convalescence.
Intent: To provide a personal home and training ground for Tirdarius and his apprentices.
