OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Defiance Consolidated Multipurpose Manufacturing
  • Affiliation: Sith Empire
  • Model: ORD-20 Nuclear Bomb
  • Modularity: No
  • Production: Minor
  • Material: Deuterium, Tritium(core fusion explosive), Zinc-64(explosive casing), neutronium(bomb casing)
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Nuclear Explosive
  • Size: Large
  • Weight: Very Heavy
  • Explosive Type: Nuclear Materials
  • Delivery Method: Launched
  • Effective Range: Average
  • Area Of Effect: Battlefield
  • Stopping Power: Very High
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • The detonation of an ORD-20 produces a tremendous amount of radioactive material through the collision of neutrons with the Zinc-64 explosive casing, creating highly radioactive Zinc-65 that is subsequently vaporized and scattered over a large distance by the blast.
STRENGTHS
  • The Zinc-65 generated by the radiation covers a tremendous area while simultaneously generating levels of radiation that could be lethal to human life. With an average generation of 10 sieverts per hour and the median lethal dosage of radiation being 5 sieverts, any human unprotected by any sort of radiation shielding could receive a lethal dose of radiation within half an hour of exposure. Zinc-65's half-life of 244 days ensures a reasonable period of time passes to force enemies to remain hunkered in radiation-shielded locations while radtroopers are allowed relative ease of mobility around the landscape, though this can be inhibited if the enemy also has radiation shielded armor or is of a radiation-tolerant species.
WEAKNESSES
  • The ORD-20's effect are intended to be more peripheral and less direct, thus the direct effects of the blast are particularly weak compared to other nuclear weapons of its size. The weapon is ineffectual at physically damaging fortifications and dug-in positions, though it can still irradiate them.
  • This weapon is twice as large as a standard proton bomb. Any bomber carrying them has its capacity halved while carrying these bombs.
  • Any units wearing armor with radiation shielding are effectively immune to the effects of this weapon. This also applies to people in vehicles with NBC systems that can filter out radioactive particulate.
DESCRIPTION
The ORD-20 is a salted pure fusion nuclear weapon created by Defiance Consolidated Multipurpose Manufacturing as a weapon for the Sith Empire's Radtrooper Corps' aerial wings. The ORD-20 consists of a 20 megaton deuterium-tritium nuclear warhead utilizing laser ignition. This core warhead is surrounded by a zinc-64 casing, which is in turn surrounded by a neutronium bomb casing. Upon ignition and fusion of the fuel, the emitted neutrons convert the stable zinc-64 into highly radioactive zinc-65, which is then vaporized by the fusion reaction along with the bomb casing and scattered over a tremendous distance. The radioactive particulate of zinc-65 will settle in the soil, generating a dose of 10 sieverts per hour initially. After 244 days, half the zinc-65 will have decayed, reducing the radiation to 5 sieverts per hour, with a further halving 244 days later. This continues until after approximately 25 half-lives have passed, at which point any residual radiation is negligible and human life may live with no consequences.

The weapon is not intended to cause serious physical damage to targets, but is instead intended to salt the soil. Along with providing radtroopers an environmental advantage, the weapon is also used to punish worlds hostile to the Empire as well as to prevent the ease of restoration of resources should a planet be captured by the enemy.

Onrai Onrai this looks like it is one rating overpowered.

The Zinc-65 generated by the radiation covers a tremendous area while simultaneously generating levels of radiation that would be lethal to human life. With an average generation of 10 sieverts per hour and the median lethal dosage of radiation being 5 sieverts, anyone unprotected by any sort of radiation shielding would receive a lethal dose of radiation within half an hour of exposure.

We cannot dictate damage to opponents in Factory submissions as submitters - we can only suggest effects. If you would replace the "would" in both of these sentences with "could" please.

While not strictly necessarily, I think it's worth noting for posteriority that there are other factors in here that do not make this a predetermined effects either. Different alien species may react differently to radiation exposure, weather, terrain make-up and layout may all affect the abilities of this weapon to mean that this may not consistently have the performance that's otherwise been described.
