Operation: Reclamation Swarm [Iron Empire Dominion of Ornfra Hex]

"The Case of the Disappearing Villagers"

Talos turned his head towards the sound and tracked Caelag through the Force until she arrived on scene. With that, he used a technique he favored, Fold Space, to step beside Vass in an instant. The Imperial units were interviewing others and the mother for clues.

_______

The Archons knew their task was to track down the Chief Elder who had split the scene like he was avoiding something. Any who stuck around would see the two Sephi using the Force to guide them towards their target.

_______
[member="Caelag Vass"] [member="Kiran Arlos"]

As Talos turned to face the source of the growling, a being leapt from a tree, teeth bared and eyes wild, clearly Chiss,, but the normal red eyes seemed almost impossibly pale. The skin was a much darker azure tint than any Chiss they'd ever seen. This man seemed feral to the Nth degree. As he came down, without lifting a finger, Talos caught the assailant with the Force. Merely a twitch of his eyes directed his control over the man down to their level to examine him. "It" struggled to free itself, but Talos had control.

Foaming at the mouth, fingernails shredded nearly to the bone, teeth sharpened to fangs somehow, it was clear this Chiss had suffered something deadly. Were anyone to inquire about the man, any who weren't too affraid, would tell the investigator that this was the first man reported missing...

Her brow perked at Theo. Perhaps he was not a morning person.

“Yes, crystals. Ilum crystals. You know, that one thing these caves are known for?” Kaili laughed back at her companion. “I believe so too, this seems to be the main chamber.” The girl looked around the room and the crystals that surrounded them. “Well, I don’t know. In my meditative state I saw a crystal. Blue, kind of perfect with its imperfections…”

“If you want to stay behind you can. Maybe get that sleep you seem so peeved to lose.” Kaili grinned. “I could get myself a look around the area and call for you if something comes up?”

Regardless, Kaili would take her first few steps into the chamber and take a quick spin on her heel to get a scope of exactly how big this place was. Was this why the caves seemed so set on keeping them out? There was a calmness to this place that Kaili had not expected from it. It was like stepping into a meditation chamber in a Jedi Temple or a really good dose of antidepressants. Things rolled off, dropped to the ground and allowed you to breathe for a moment of peace in which your demons didn’t eat at you. She felt safe here, that was what it was.

Eyes went from the ceiling and over to Theo.

“Well? Sleep or wander, what would you rather do?” She continued to grin at him. “I think I need to find a way to locate this crystal of mine, but…”

She chuckled and spread her arms wide across the room. “It might take a bit.”

Klesta

The King of Ergonomic Assessments
Location: En route to Schesa
Objective: BYOO (open another magazine and ergonomic assessment office)

With the funds from the ergonomic assessment business, which proved to be more profitable than the media ventures, Klesta wanted to expand the Sith Inquisitor's business away from the Caldera, both under the form of additional titles and in additional ergonomic assessments. After the attempt to get the Intergalactic Monetary Fund to invest and get discounted advertising space in the fledgling Today's Servomotor, as well as selling ergonomic assessments to them, Klesta wasted no time getting to Chiss Ascendancy space to open a new location, where he should not dally too long, and also hire some local legal assistance to get the process started and in order. But the road from Tarhassan to Schesa was pretty long and gave him some time to get his ducks in a row as far as the regulations were concerned. While their Neimoidian Yacht made reversion over Schesa, Tiffany and Klesta are still caught in one of their many disputes about how to do business.

"What's your next harebrained idea? Ziost may be reluctant to accept it: overly rapid expansion may cause us problems down the road" Tiffany asked.

"Launching another magazine about workplace health and safety, and also opening another ergonomic assessment office"

"Utinni! Ergonomic assessments: do you have an idea how in-demand they really are in Chiss space? Not every place will be like the Caldera"

"The Chiss pay no particular attention to workplace health and safety, unlike Xi Charrans, who are the dominant figures in the galaxy in the ergonomic assessment market, and we bought one of the four ergonomic assessment companies active in the Omkabond sector to bring it to the Caldera. So I expect relatively few players"

"You have a lovely laugh Kaili", he grinned back at her. The reality was they had only just met and started to get to know one another, but in this time they had been through so much here in the Ilum caves that friendships, over a life time, may take to possibly encounter. They had done so in the space of a few hours. And it was great to hear her laugh, he suspected she had not done so in quite some time.

"No I am fine, awake now", he retorted with a smirk, but although still fatigued some form of energy had returned to him. He walked in the opposite circle to her around the new chamber they found themselves in. Théo marveled at the work engraved on the stone and ice, symbols he did not understand the meaning of nor had seen before not even in books but there was a sense of guidance within them, soft lines of the curves of the ancient symbols was catching and pleasing to the eye. It reminded him of his ancestral language of Midvinter, they are equally as graceful and from such a harsh (and what some would consider uncivilised) peoples at times. There was grace to be found anywhere if only one can open their eyes and minds to it.

Although his face was turned up to look upon the vaulted ceiling, his eyes dropped to Kaili as she asked him his mind, "Wander, help you find this crystal of ours. Seems you have lost it already". He teased her. "If you have seen it it is here, but you are going to have to open your senses up to it, call for it through the force", he walked over to her, "You know .. search for it". It would depend on where the crystal would ask her to go within the caves to have him decide if he would follow, as this journey is one that is personal.. between crystal and person. However, if she wants and needs his support, he will protect her to the end.

Seras watched from the bridge of her ship noticing an unfamiliar vessel making its way towards Schesa. Traumatized by the period when the Sith invaded the planets of the Ascendancy and became the cause of her personal hell, she frowned at the unknown vessel as she ordered an open comms channel be opened for her.

"Unidentified vessel, from where do you hail from and what is your purpose?" she spoke with an emotionless tone, transmitting her message though the open comms channel. Though she could tell that the ship did not seem to be a warship that had come to threaten the Ascendancy's period of peace after the end of the One Sith's tyranny, she chose to err on the side of caution. Too many Chiss lives had been lost and ruined for her to allow herself an act of carelessness.

"We come from Tarhassan and our purpose on Schesa is twofold: open a magazine about workplace health and safety and open an ergonomic assessment business"

In a gesture of good faith, Klesta also transmitted background information on the Sith inquisitor to the Chiss security officer: while it was headquartered on Ziost, any ties to any known Sith were severed when Yula died on Cyrillia several months ago, and its editorial line describes Sith factions as bloodthirsty monsters, with few individual Sith not being such monsters. And it also has a few offices: Zonju V, Ringo Vinda, Glyss, Cyrillia, Alexandria, Lok and Tarhassan, all of which functioned mostly as local newsfeeding antennae, more than as any real media outlet. But ergonomic assessments are uncharted territory to those Chiss. Perhaps some legwork would allow the process to be streamlined, and to allow the whole business of H&S magazines to operate in Chiss space, to try and get the ergonomic assessment revenue stream serve another purpose, whom he knew that they were much more limited in terms of potential audience than Today's Servomotor or Interstellar Getaway. And also expand the ergonomic assessment revenue stream.

Carefully, Seras read the information that had been provided by the unidentified vessel. It was as she had assumed from the build of their ship, they were not combatants, only hopefuls that wished to establish a business in Chiss space.

"I have read though the information that have provided by your company," she spoke into the transmitter. "And from what I have read, it seems like your organization means no harm, however, I would still require a face to face meeting as the planet you wish to establish operations on will soon return under the governance of the Ascendancy. My ship will now follow yours in escort down to the planet," Seras spoke with a tone of authority then turned to the captain of her vessel.

"Escort the Sith Inquisitor ship down to the planet," she said, recoiling as she spoke the word Sith. "I am going to clean myself up. Call for me just before landing," Seras ordered then removed herself from the bridge.

Understandably the Sith Inquisitor was a complete unknown in Chiss space: even today it was still mostly associated with the Caldera, where it is the main known news company, despite its forays in former Republican territory in the Colonies and Inner Rim, led by Klesta. With Seras' ship escorting the Neimoidian Yacht down to the surface, it's not long until he receives the visit of the Chiss Ascendancy customs. In fact, he prepares to produce the paperwork required for the business to be launched and also the business plan and proof of financing: he knew that several customs authorities required those documents to qualify for the right to set up business in another faction's territory. Once the yacht makes landfall on Schesa, in the outskirts of the planet's largest city, he stands ready for the arrival of the Chiss customs officials, while he has his leather suitcase filled with the appropriate paperwork.

Nodding to Odion, the executive officer spoke for him.

"Lieutenant, any luck?"

"Negative, sir. We'll keep trying."

Turning to make sure Zeradias had heard, Odion stepped beside the grand admiral and leaned in slightly before speaking.

"How much longer do you want to wait?"

"One hour. If we don't hear from them, set course for Ilum."

Caelag glanced over at Centurian Rygat as they appeared quickly beside herself and Arlos, and effectively neutralized a threat that leaped at them swiftly as he arrived. Well, she didn't approve of keeping the Chiss restrained without a proper cuff of some kind, and a muzzle given his sharpened teeth, but she at least was thankful the force wielder didn't kill the man. She motioned to the man with her head, and the soldier gave a short nod. He carefully, slowly flicked the safety of his rifle on, and put the weapon away before approaching the man. Given their leader's affinity for stealth, most of her troops carried one or two pairs of cuffs on them, the private being no exception. The soldier gave Rygat a short nod, before moving to cuff the Chiss's arms behind his back. Better safe than sorry after all.

Caelag meanwhile focused, she couldn't 'see' any others around their immediate area, but she could still sense the fading trail of life from the blood. Out of the body, blood cells including midichlorians died if left open and exposed, however against the backdrop of leaves and bushes, they still had a distinct presence. It faded quickly, but she could still pick out.. well a couple of directions honestly. She leveled her weapon at one path and spoke quickly. "Private, assist Centurian Rygat with the Chiss. I'm going to scout out ahead." Before anyone could remind her how unusual it was for the team leader to act as a scout, she hurried off along the more faded trail of blood she could sense.

Naturally, after some time she realized she was utterly alone, and not entirely sure how far she was from the others, or for that matter the source of the blood trail. For all she knew this was a pointless endeavor. After several more minutes following the trail to its end, she let out a short curse as she sensed no one nearby. More than a bit frustrated, Caelag flicked the safety on her blaster rifle and laid it down, kneeling down to the grass with her hands on her head, to better calm herself down. She was failing, again, and this wasn't the right time to do so. Not after she grew to like this nation so greatly.

Back in the original village, the remainder of the platoon had split off into several groups. The majority began large sweeps of the areas surrounding the village, to look for any potential hide-aways, while a smaller set began to join the archons in their search. In fact, a full four man fireteam had joined them, if only for appearances sake. There was no telling, after all, what these elders who ran off would do. If worst came to worse, well four soldiers were trained very well, especially given Caelag's focus on making each unit work well together from bottom up.

Hair slick back and dressed in a suit that complimented the blue of her skin, Seras - escorted by Iron Empire military personnel disembarked from her vessel.

"This is Seras, a representative of the Chiss Ascendancy," Seras announced, displeased at having to use her alias for the convenience of others. "Disembark the ship with your papers ready," she ordered with an unemotional tone. Her experience at the hands of the Sith had made her colder than the snow covered planet of Csilla.

"Captain," she spoke over a small comlink as she waited for the members of the company vessel to disembark. "Keep me up to date with any important transmission from our fleet."

"Understood," came his reply.

Speaking of papers, Klesta had a poodoo-load of papers in a suitcase, of which only his Commenori passport and his ID were outside the suitcase. He disembarked the yacht, with the papers in tow and coming face-to-face with the Chiss Ascendancy customs officer. The Jawa had to make sure he could produce the following: the business plan, the most recent quarterly financial statement (the one made and verified after Yula's death on Cyrillia, with a preface explaining the changes that occurred in the quarter), as well as proof of financing. So he put all the documents in a row, starting with his ID on the left, and then the business plan, the quarterly financial statement and finally the proof of financing. That ought to placate the Chiss Ascendancy and show them that I mean business, he thought, while ready to scream Utinni if these documents either weren't in order, but Commenor didn't ask for anything other than these three items from Yula when she wanted to invest on Cyrillia prior to her death. If background checks on the staff brought in tow are necessary, so be it, even though most of the remainder are going to be hired from the local population. He arrays the documents in the suitcase in front of Seras:

"Seras, here are the papers: the travel documents, my ID, my business plan, the latest quarterly financial statement of the Sith Inquisitor and proof of financing"

“Thank you!” Kaili beamed a smile at Theodred’s compliment. In truth she didn’t even notice she was smiling, or laughing, or keeping it bright for once. It was probably the room. Kaili was by many means a self-proclaimed ‘realist’ after all. If things could go wrong it was always best to expect it to come out as such and be pleasantly surprised than to constantly be faced with bitter truths. It was a bit paradoxical in nature. Expecting the bad and be bitter for the sake of being pleasantly surprised.

And Theo decided to come with so that was great. The two of them continued to stroll into the chamber, the sparkle of crystals poking out of the corner of Kaili’s eye no matter where she turned. She didn’t pay the runes much attention. Her attention was too busy shifting from crystal spire to crystal spire looking to see where hers was. Theo thought she should wander and find the crystal she sought as if it had escaped her. For a second her eyes dropped from the ceiling to give him another deadpanned stare. Her brow perked as if to question it but it promptly dropped as if to look at the ceiling again.

His advice was sound and she followed his suggestion. Eyes closed, movement stopped as she listened for the hymn of her own crystal. The sound of her breath occupied her mind as her heartbeat began to pound within her ears. A whistle called in the far reaches of the cave, beckoning her to find it.

With eyes closed she began to walk. She tripped at first, entered a small stumble but didn’t break concentration. When stability was regained she kept her arms spread for two seconds before continuing her expedition into the unknown chamber that she could not see.

The signature drew closer.

Closer.

Ever closer.

Kaili’s face planted itself against the cold surface of one of the pillars. Concentration was broken and she fell down, hitting the ground with her butt and a small ooph.

Eyes wandered up the pillar, and there, at the top of it, she saw her crystal.

… Embedded in the pillar itself with no visible means to get there.

“... Great.” Kaili sighed and pointed for the small spire. “That’s it.”

While Kaili was doing her thing, Theo followed a little behind her, and took the opportunity to take in the place more. It truly was magnificent. Something shinny caught his attention on the ground, a crystal of all the surprises and he picked it up. It was only small, cloudy white and he held it up before his eyes to inspected further .. it was rather pretty and shaped like a turtle, he had to grin and knew someone who would love it. So into his pocket the small crystal went. Just as he was about to set off after Kaili again, his commlink beeped almost causing him to leap out of his skin as so unexpected the sound was in here, so intrusive to the place it was almost a crime committed. It was a message from Admiral Mant, which had been sent prior and only now it got through the interference of the caves. It was good news, mission completed and the Empire had set stable another troubled place. Always a man of few words the Admiral, that was all he was going to get back.

By now the Howlin' Wolf had Midvinter Mead, Theo had made sure of it.

Finding Kaili once more as he sent the message, he grinned watching her walking around eyes closed searching for that illusive crystal. He was about to call out a warning but too late she had walked into the hard rock of the pillar. Theo pursed his lips together to stop the laugh spilling out around the chamber room, but his chest heaved nonetheless. "Found it huh?". But the smile and laugh within soon fell away once she reveal where it was.

He followed her gaze upward, "Up .. up there?", he asked as if this would not get any more harder this day. It was too much for him now.

when-Jon-Snow-laughs.gif
"Of course it is", he laughed. So how were they going to get her crystal without destroy the place? He looked back up, inspecting the pillar which, did not seem to be of importance to the structure of the place, there were thicker, taller columns that did that. But still, how to do this without defacing a Jedi ruin? Well lots of Jedi anything got built, destroyed, built again, destroyed again, and so on until infinity and beyond! "Hmmmmm", was all that came out of him as the looked at Kaili with a grin. They had not gone through hell to walk away empty handed. Lets see what Miss Talith had to say about this.

Seras received the documents from the jawa and carefully read them, searching for any inconsistenacies, however, there was none to be found."Everything looks to be in order," she said once she had finally finished reading the documents and carefully shuffled them back in order neatly before she handed the documents back to the jawa. "Any personnel your company hires outside of Iron Empire territory will need to undergo strict so that we can ensure the safety of those within our boarders, however, this is not the case for citizens of the Iron Empire so I would highly encourge you to offer your positions to the locals before seeking employees elsewhere."

Satisfied with the [member="Klesta"]'s intentions, Seras motioned for a small group of Iron Imperial soldiers to remain. "Schesa is still in a period of unrest so I will leave a small group of soldiers for your security. Should you need to contact me or I, you, it will be conducted through the soldiers as well. Respect our laws and make no trouble and your business should thrive here - provided you've put in sufficent effort," Seras said and began to leave.

"Since you are new to the Iron Empire, I will have a soldier deliver a package of documents as well as an agreement that is to be signed so that you are aware of the laws and other important information regarding the land you intend to operated on," the chiss said, turning back to face Klesta then boarded her ship.

The package of documents given by the soldier was, in essence, another stack of legal documents, so that the investor visa could be delivered. Man he began to hate Iron Empire bureaucracy as applied to foreign investors. Worse than the GR he served while in the Senate, which was still pretty overbearing in its own right. But at least the Chiss is upfront about the paperwork required for the investor visa to be issued. And actually, the only position that may be filled by non-locals may well be a general counsel kind of position, which, for businesses of that nature, are mostly about interplanetary business law. he had his hired legal counsel go over the legal documents, such as no Sith, and other business and fiscal practices to follow while operating the Workplace Health and Safety Digest from Schesa. He soon found that the tax structure of the Iron Empire is quite different compared to the simplistic fiscal structure of the Resurgent Empire. He finally places his signature at the bottom of the investor visa agreement, after spending an hour reading the set of basic rules and regulations:

"I believe that we can now post job openings for the Workplace Health and Safety Digest and the ergonomic assessment business, with priority being granted to Schesa residents"

“Yep.” Kaili offered as a quick interjection to Theodred’s question before he started to laugh. She had to admit she didn’t really see the fun part of it, but suspected that it wasn’t so much humor as much as exasperation. She too was growing tired of all this, but her reaction was more one of irritation than anything else. Perhaps that was what the caves wanted of her in the end, to completely lose it and throw a tantrum. Maybe it was some sort of test of worth and it would be failed if she did in which case Kaili would refuse the cave the satisfaction.

Her eyes closed as she focused herself in the force again. It was right there, taunting her with its presence. Arms and leg tried to wrap themselves around the pillar. Didn’t work, no grip, no real dignity in it either. She gave up and tried to come up with a new plan.

And there really only was the one she could think of...

“I am going to jump.” She said and turned to Theo. “Mind giving me a hand with that? A boost so to speak?”

“You know, like in the movies, but with the force. You provide me with a step up, toss me into the air, I jump and then you force push me towards the crystal.” She shrugged and began to back as far away from the pillar as she felt necessary. “It could work, or it could go horribly wrong.”

“Well?”

"Since we're starting from scratch, and we need to open both a magazine and an ergonomic assessment office, the list of how many junior vs senior positions will be important. Only demand experience for the more senior positions"

Undoubtedly the HR consultant being brought in on a pro-tempore basis was unfamiliar with the job market in Chiss space, and so was Klesta. Then again, Klesta knew that, in some segments of the job market, it was difficult for newly-minted graduates to enter the job market, but the prevalence depended on local conditions. Staffing for that sort of items was by no means easy: it required a dozen journalists, with at least one of those with a robotics background, a few administrative asisstants, a few inspectors for doing the ergonomic assessments, an accountant, a general counsel with experience in interplanetary private law (and especially interplanetary business law), IT support capable of dealing with multimedia, the works for such industries. And, of course, a guy that took care of supply chain management for the printing presses part of the business, knowing that no newspaper of any kind with hardcopy circulation would be complete without printing presses, nor would it be complete without supply chain management. That's a poodoo-load of staff to hire before one could even proceed with operations, regardless of what seed money they had and where it came from.

He continued to watch Kaili with a smirk, the more he got to know her the more awesome she is. She was going to try and climb the pillar, but failed naturally but her words following made his brows peak as high as the ceiling. T'was the worse plan he had ever heard, so naturally Théo was all for it. "So you need a leg up", he grinned and moved closer to provide said leg up.

"You know more things could go wrong with this idea than right but ... ", he gazed upward again and short of destroy the place there was not much else for it. Although knowing this place now as they did, the cave chamber would probably mend itself if they did tear down the walls so to speak.

Throwing Kaili in the air would be nothing to his Valkyri strength, already he possess the strength of five average men and couple that with the force, he would have to rein it in or she would find herself head planted in the ceiling. He decided his brute strength would be more than enough for this. He took up position, bent knee crouching and cupped both his hands together weaving his fingers. He would be able to hold her were she to place both feet in them and he would toss the Kaili considerable lighter than a caber.

"Are you sure about this?", he looked up into her face, shuffled in his position to gain a more solid footing. When she was in position, Kaili would sore through the air.
