Operation Clear Skies: (Voss Confederacy/Open/Warfare)

8b35cd85484d4aae7964b1b0a65a15c3.jpg

Following the failed invasion at Mirial and the subsequent abandonment of the silver Jedi, the Provincial forces in the Voss sector have been left leaderless. In a vacuum some local warlords and generals have moved to seize power over the planet.

Several different events are occurring in the aftermath of the move. The Systems close by Voss have convened their best states men and women, drawing up a protection treaty, detailing the conduct of a defensive and economical pact.

Leaders have been elected to oversee the three major branches. Military, Economical, and Political.

The 1st Battlegroup has moved in, under the leadership of a retired Merc turned General to quell local warlords whom are attempting to ravage the population and loot the surface.

Envoys are sent out to parlay with the local Factions, to secure trust and faith.

Investors are secured, and trade fleets begin to make way between systems in an effort to establish a robust economic machine.

Everything is in play. The pieces are moving to consolidate a power base and raise the abandoned sector back to it's former prosperity and might. But everything hangs in the balance...

The Tower of Prophecy. It rose high above the ruined city of Voss Ka and from here Colap could observe everything. The bald General stood facing a circle of his best Commanders, clad in power armor and with a Gauss rifle slung at his back. On each thigh, Magnetically holstered pistols. The commanders in question were from first and second battalion of the first battlegroup.

"We made landfall six hours ago and managed to set up a good perimeter. Fleet battles against the nearby pirate factions are all ongoing. Everything else ems to be under control, except for a rogue faction of Jedi who've splintered away and fallen. They are holed up at the old Silver Temple. Intel say their men have been raiding and pillaging the villages."

"Damn. So the remaining Jedi went Rogue and formed a warband?"

"That's what our intel tells us sir."

Colap stroked his chin and then nodded, moving a few pieces on the tac map, drawing with his finger.

He pulled up the entire composition of the 1st Battlegroup.

"As you can see Gentlemen we have plenty of Assets on station, though VCS Dawn and Admiral Tawny wont be able to provide much support on this op. The sooner they clear the skies the sooner we can get goods down to these people and convince them to join our cause. Here's my plan of attack.

The situations been briefed. The Objective is to seize the Temple and apprehend these idiots before they can do any more harm. Estimates put them in the hundreds and well armed.

Terrain is mostly flat forest on the way, a bit of an uphill slop closer to the target.

Battalion One will load up on Gunships and take the right corridor to swoop in behind and standbye.

Battalion two will be with me. We'll be riding Mulcher Tanks and Armadillo's right into their gate and then dig in for a siege. VCS Charity will be pulled off station above, and provide fifteen minutes of orbital strike on the target. After that 1st flies in, we breach the compound and seize the temple.

Signal will be encrypted channel 13.5 and 17.5.

Red smoke for trouble.

Medevac is standard dropship.

Succession of Command as follows. Me, the XO, then Admiral Tawny. Any questions?"

"Do we get fighter support?"

"I think we can get a pair of Jast Heavies. It's at Tawny's discretion. Anything else?"

"Nope."

He nodded.

"Get your Battalions spun up. We SP in one hour."

The Voss Confederacy intrigued him. They were a gutsy lot, to be sure, and struggling with all sorts of problems. It was what happened when a major galactic government pulled up roots and went elsewhere. Now, the locals were left to handle the problem, and that could be significant. His ship hovered for a moment and then settled down into the glade. It would be safe here.

He turned and trudged across the ground until he reached their encampment. Sentries were stationed along the perimeter and he held his hands out as he approached.

"Heard you have a looting problem." His helmet magnified the sound of his voice as he spoke. "I think I can help you." He took a few more steps closer until the sentries beckoned him forwards with some caution. Kiyron appreciated that. It showed professionalism.

"Sir we have someone down here. Claiming to be an ally."

Colap looked up from the tac table and through the window. He could just barely make the man out from the top of the tower. And the hour was getting late. Already the men were loading into the Dread Hawk Gunships and mounting vehicles, depending on their part in the mission. If he cared about the Voss people, another gun could be a god send.

Their Battle group while large, held every trooper they had. Three thousand in total. Not a grand army by any means.

"Hold him there, give him hospitality if he need's it. I'll be right down."

He set down his just in case letter, taping it to the side of the console. It was addressed to his kin, namely other Ticons.

Then he was walking across the pad to greet the newcomer. A comm buzzed in his ear.

"Ten mikes out from SP sir. Locked and loaded."

"Copy."

His brown eyes probed the newcomer. Some kind of merc with armor, which was a good sign.

"Greetings, welcome to Fort Justice. Who do I have the honor of speaking to?"

Kiyron gave a nod of greeting as the man came down. An officer, by his carriage, and the authority with which he spoke. Kiyron had been observing the preparations and counting the size of the army. Not a large one, certainly. Good soldiers, likely, but not enough for a real war.

"Kiyron Tabalhar," he replied, inclining his head. "Offering my services for hire. Expertise and training in force multiplication and asymmetrical warfare. Experienced in all forms of warfare against all sorts of enemies. Best scout-sniper in the galaxy. And I assume you're the commanding officer here?"

Neither the uniform nor the armor were ones he recognized from any major galactic power, so they had connections, or at least the resources to purchase equipment from the market. That was a good start for the army. Kiyron even found himself rooting for them. He held onto that for a few moments, but it faded away as he remembered the issue with the Sith that loomed in the northern quadrants of the galaxy.

"Aye that's a correct Statement Kiyron. Nice to meet you. Colap Ticon, former Red Raven, now Commander of the 1st Battlegroup, Voss Confederacy. Time is short, let;s get on the tanks and then talk."

As the armored column began to move past he cuaght a hand hold on one of the Armadillos and hauled himself up onto a wheel pad. From here he could feel the slow wind whispering over his bald scalp. The familiar feel of his blood thundering through his veins before battle took hold. He loved this shet.

"I could use a Commander for the next Battlegroup, or my own. Hell I'll even take a Guerilla specialist or a Staff Officer, your choice!"

He roared above the din. The sound of rock and earth crumbling under heavy tires, and engnes of the Gunships streaking overhead almsot drowned out his own thoughts.

"We're on the way to remove some nasty parties from where they sit, and see if we can reestablish a foothold in the area. Come along, we'll see to it you are paid. Strict rules of engagement though. Only shoot lawful combatants, no civilians. Not sure how you operate, just throwing it out there if it applies."

Kiyron pulled himself up alongside Ticon and anchored himself to the vehicle, listening. As they rode, he adjusted the parameters of his helmet scanners to get a better glimpse of what they were looking at in case any surprises arrived.

Red Raven. That explained it. He remembered them from way back. Used to be quite a significant criminal organization turned government. He'd shot at them at more than a few times and vice versa. Unless he was mistaken, they'd once put a massive bounty on him too. Or was that a different criminal organization? There were too many to keep straight at this point.

"What type of hostiles are we talking?" That would determine what he was most effective at. "And what are their positions? I'll see what I can be most effective at." He raised an eyebrow beneath his helmet. "Don't worry. I spent long enough with Republic Special Forces to have any other parameters. Strictly a professional."

"We're talking Jedi gone rogue. Maybe a few mercs too, numbering roughly five hundred to one hundred. Intel couldn't get a solid guess."

They were arriving at the target, just at the base of the hill the ruins of the temple stood upon. Colap stood and raised a palm up gesture to slow down the column, just as precise Orbital fire from VCS Dawn rained down. He grimaced, wondering if there were indeed any civilians in there. But that was what was handed down from the High Commander.

At this point, anyone left in the building was a rotten apple to his knowledge.
How did the tactic stack with his allies morals though?

Blazing beams of crimson pulverized the target, scattering apart stone and steel, burning white hot gouges in the earth. They had to shield their eyes and bodies to avoid the shrapnel. Call for fire was a little too close, maybe even sloppy. Then it ended.

"See for yourself. They were dug in up there. Now they might not be so eager to do this thing."

Another hand signal and the tanks spread out, Armadillos spaced between mulchers. He waved his palm down.

Mass Drivers rounds cracked and ripped from the dune buggies twin swivel cannons. From the Mulchers auto cannons opened up, followed by the grey streaks of concussion missiles. Colap pulled a charge and tossed it fifty meters, letting it explode into an instant hole. The others did the same, digging in and moving into position under the withering fusillade.

First rule, gain fire superiority.

"VCS Dawn Actual to BG1 Actual, come in."

"BG1 Actual send it!" Colap roared over the chaos of rifle fire and screams.

"That last was all you got. We can't send any heavies. You have to rely on your skills."

"Copy all out."

Then he switched to their internal channel.

Rounds whistled past his face as the two sides traded fierce fire, bodies dropping in droves like wheat under scythe.

He snapped off two of his own, letting the hexagon slugs rip into a sniper higher up.

"First Battalion, air assault now!"

Kiyron nodded at the assessment, watching the bombardment. The helmet filtered most of it out, but it definitely rained hot shrapnel around them, bouncing off his armor. He shielded himself with his arms. A tad excessive, as far as he was concerned, but if there were really that many rogue Jedi in there, it was better than taking a chance. Kiyron knelt and unbuckled a case from his back and pulled out the pieces of his sniper rifle, fitting them together casually, and sliding in a magazine of the pellets. He paused as it synced with his helmet.

The assault burst forward, dropships and gunships screaming through the sky towards the smashed temple. Gunfire echoed around them as he dropped behind the vehicle, letting its armor handle the enemy fire.

"More mercenary than Jedi!" He yelled across to Colap, raising his rifle and firing off one shot. There was no sound, no flash, nothing at all to signal that it had fired, but up on the walls, one fell. He swept the muzzle across the defenders, and with each trigger pull, another fell, pierced by a magnetically propelled pellet. "They have a commander? Anyone in charge?"

He could take them out. See if that would break their resistance, at least disorganize it.

"Not that I know of!"

The Gunships were flying low now, skirting the top of the wreckage and disgorging their troops into battle. In quick succession nano missiles streaked into the temple grounds, followed by a pulverizing wave of more mass drivers. Colap held his fist up and the onslaught from the armored columns stopped, just as the real battle was beginning.

They'd done their job, now the Infantry were in and they were slaughtering the opposition.

His XO called over Coms.

"Battalion One is in. Battalion two you ready?"

Colap swivled his hand, not concerned about the stray pot shots and they mounted up on their vehicles. This was gonna be the best part of it all.

"Target walls only men. Don't kill your brothers with sloppy fire."

He grabbed Kiyron as they rolled past and checked his laser range finder.

"There's a tower you can get into or you can roll with me, through the damn thing."

Armadillos ripped the walls open with well placed rounds, and like ants devouring carrion they closed in, engines rumbling as they tore through the gaps in the walls. The firefight before them unfolded anew, but more close quarters.

Infantry smoking mercs at point blank. Crimson blood spatter. Warriors duking it out with fists, rifle butts, sidearms. Even a few stabbing eachother with knives. It was blood and gore, just how the hardened Soldier loved it.

A few red light sabers off at the edge of the courtyard were cutting through troopers. Colap hefted his rifle and jumped from the tank, leveling it for his targets face.

"Cover me!"

Kiyron nodded and followed the man through the breach, slinging the sniper over his shoulder and pulling out his sonic pistols. His helmet had locked onto the lightsabers. Definitely red at this point. Dark Side. Maybe Sith. The din'uul on his gauntlet sprang to life, giving him a small energy shield.

"Copy," Kiyron replied as the other man hefted the rifle. "Moving to aerial engagement."

His repulsor pack activated and he shot up from the ground, getting a bird's eye view of the combat below. It was easy enough to distinguish between the soldiers and the mercenaries. They were not his concern, however. His concern involved lightsabers. As he swooped across the battlespace, he opened fire with the Jackknife pistols towards the lightsabers. Each trigger pull released three spheres of explosive hard-sound that would detonate on impact with anything.

That should keep them busy enough.

Something yanked him from the sky and his repulsor pack whined as it struggled against the drag. Or rather, the Force. Kiyron cursed and then cut the power to the pack. He fell towards the ground and slammed into, breaking the impact with a roll, braced by his cybernetic arms. The servos whined, but held firm and he picked himself up from the ground.

The rogue Sith stood before him, facing away from him, and he could see Colap aiming towards them in the distance.

The warrior grinned.

Raven Gauss Rifles were unlike any other weapon in the Galaxy. Colap had designed them himself and as his fired, he smiled.

A sonic speed double tap of hex flathead tungsten ripped into Kiyrons would be attacker, cleaving his head clean off. The time to enjoy the act was cut short by his own problems. A burst of three rounds zipped past, two ripping his right cheek and drawing blood. The third slammed into his breastplate, ramming him on his back.

"Feth!"

"Sir!"

He was hauled upright, wheezing. The armor had held but their was a massive dent in it and Colap felt as though he'd been hit with the ramming speed of a Star Destroyer. More of the tide was unfolding. Their snipers were now in place, and the infantry had managed to push up to what was left of the main structure.

Kiyron was still neck and neck with those Sith though.

Two opposite fronts within a theater.

"Go take the Citadel, do it now!"

"Aye Sir."

He charged towards Kiyron, snapping the butt of his rifle back up to his shoulder, wading through the carnage. Another trio of rounds covered his new partner as the enemy closed in.

Meanwhile hundreds of Confedarcy soldiers cut and killed their way up the steps, one landing at a time....

Colap was busy, had taken a hit. Kiyron ducked under a lightsaber slash as one collapsed from Colap's fire and deflected another with the energy shield. As the blade sizzled on the shield, he fired point blank with the pistol. Its three sonic rounds exploded at the rogue Jedi and sent him sprawling backwards. Another one was coming to him on the other side and he lunged forward, firing with the charric on his other wrist. It slammed into the blade of the lightsaber the impact jarred its wielder long enough for another shot to catch that Dark Jedi in the torso. He too crumbled.

One turned to engage the approaching Colap, but a rocket-dart put an end to that as it buried into his neck. But still, there were too many. He hissed as a lightsaber blade chopped into his arm. He yanked his body away and fired crisscross, one up and one down, with the Jackknife. They caught him in the torso and he too collapsed.

"Don't get in too close!" Kiyron yelled to Colap. "I can handle it!"

In all honesty, that was pushing things a little too far, but he was confident.

With his force now crushing the last of the pathetic opposition, these rogue Jedi were the last pocket of resistance to be swept free. Colap growled, pressing the trigger as he went with a feather touch, snapping off five more whistling tungsten rounds. Two met their mark, tearing off arms. One went down amputee status.

Then he closed the distance, side stepped to avoid a nasty lightsaber swipe and slammed his muzzle into the face of the closest one, spearing him with the end of the gun. He was rewarded with a deafening crack as his face split, bone crunching under the heavy strike. He stumbled back, Colap put two rounds in his chest, and he dropped.

Which still left him out of rounds and facing the last two of the light saber wielders.

He went to reload, only to receive a burn on his hand as his weapon was chopped clean in half, pieces clattering to the floor.

"Feth!"

Both arms locked in an X and snapped up, catching a high cleave by the offenders forearms. He wrapped them further, and tumbled, taking the Sith down with him, going to a full mount, reaching for the knife holstered at the small of his back....

The sensors in his helmet caught the struggle as Colap went for the tackle. Kiyron pauses for a moment and just barely caught a lightsaber on his energy shield, following that up with a sonic blast to the Sith’s chest. He kicked the repulsive pack into gear and soared towards Colap, tossing him one of his heavy pistols as he passed.

“Use this!”

He sowed his flight and turned around, facing the melee. He unslung the sniper rifle and checked the pellets in the magazine. He was still good to go for a while. As other enemy forces move in, he keeps them pinned down by the silent fire.

In full mount Colap caught the pistol with ease, snapping it to the Force users head and exploding his brains across the tarmac. He rose and pivoted, covered in grey matter and blood. Then the pistol snapped level and launched its own rounds towards Kiyrons attackers. A quick burst to cover his partner.

He needed his rifle back.

He cast about for it.
