Private One of a Kind

The first time that I had used this synthetic Force it had been by accident. The second time too. And both were not in the safe confines of my laboratory. This state-of-the-art facility that was given to me should be used for every ounce of my research. And that includes me too.

I know that it is risky and I know that it will hurt. But if I cannot control it than I really would be a danger to myself and to others. So the best way to do it is to try to practice. And to do so secretly. For I know well enough that if it became known; they will either be horrifed, disappointed, angered or glad. The latter is surely to be of the lowest percentage. Afterall my research goes against the Force Wizard religions of which most of them are aligned.

I sit at one of the laboratory tables with a cup of water. My main goal is a simple one; to float it up in the air. I had done something similar previously; although that event was more of a shockwave than anything else. This time had to be gentler. I stare at the cup and look at it not in some magical way, but in a scientific one. I imagine that I am seeing the tiniest of particals inbetween the surface of the table and the bottom of the cup. Then I focus on those particals speeding up and increasing in numbers, causing the cup and the table to seperate. It takes a few moments but then I begin to feel the hairs on the back of my neck and my forearms start to rise as the static buildup around me increases. And as they rise; so too does the cup.

The doors to the lab opened. Rellik had come not to intrude, but to check in. He had some tea in his hands and was bringing them to chat with Liin and give her a break from her efforts. To show her someone cared enough to see how she was doing. He stepped inside just as the cup rose from the table. A static hum brushed against the edge of his skin. His steps paused, eyes drawn not to the object but to the woman behind it.

She hadn't seen him yet. Rellik didn't speak immediately. He simply stood there, still as stone, observing the moment. Than he gave away he was there. Simply and happily saying "Hey Liin, I brought you some tea. I hope I am not invading your study." He was happy and calm. Proud of the work she was doing and knowing all of the effort she had put in was coming to a head.

Slowly he walked forward with tea in hand.

The cup of water rose higher and higher as I focused on it. I built up the particles underneath it so well that the whole thing seemed weightless. This practice was going so well, despite the smell of static in the air. One can almost hear it popping as the synthetic Force charged up around me.

Lord Rellik's voice startled me. So much so that I lost my focus altogether and desperately attempted to catch the cup as it fell to the table. However my reflexes were not quick enough and I missed. Fortunately the cup was not made of glass. Otherwise it would have shattered. Instead it was a plastic one. And as it bounced and rolled on the table; the water splattered everywhere.

A wave of exhaustion struck me once the static buildup evaporated, yet I did my very best to hide it while I drew up a hankerchief from my lab coat's pocket and began to clean up the water.

"
Invading? Why no. I was just--" How am I to cover up this one? How much did he see? "The cup slipped through my fingers. I suppose that I do need a break." I slide my notes down the table and continue to wipe up the water. "Tea sounds wonderful, thank you." I allow a small pause to pass us by. "I hope that everything is going well with you all. And once again I appreciate all that you both have done for me."

Rellik had seen the cup fall. Watched her hand and above all felt the weird energy in the room. It was not entirely different from obscure things he has felt in the force bur it was off. Enough to give him a tingle on the back of the neck. A natural warning like an animal sensing there was something wrong with its environment.

Alas though, he made no attempts to coerce Liin into a confession on the matter. Instead he walked over, put the tea down and helped her clean up the water.

He did have a almost smirking look to the smile on his face as he began to speak.

"All is going well on my part. Things seem to be moving at a better pace now than they were just a little bit ago."

Looking towaed the plastic cup now.

"Time is a precious thing and when we are excited about something we all have a tendency to over due ourselves. I am glad to have come to see you. This blend is one of my own. Nothing to audacious but it should help you feel healthy and re-energized. Is there anything else I can do to help you dear?"

I breathed an inward sigh of relief as he seemed not to have seen what I had been practicing. At least I did not try anything else that could have caused a nosebleed or worse. For that would of been more difficult to hide.

Still, the air smelled a little different around me. Electric even. Such a thing I must remember to write down in my notes.

I dip my head in thanks as Lord Rellik helps me to wipe up the water. He did not need to, yet I appreciate it all the same.

It is not until after the tabletop is dry that I take the tea cup in hand and lift it up to first savor the aroma. "
It smells wonderful." Carefully I take a small sip so as not to burn my tongue and ruin my tastebuds. As expected, the aroma matched the taste, yet had a fuller body to it than mere smell could provide. "I have worked in a rush while on the run for so long that I have gotten out of the habit of taking breaks. A gentle reminder of doing so from time to time would be beneficial, I think." Afterall, all that I do is work. Even while on New Cov; every thing that I did was work related. I do not quite know the meaning of taking a day off. It is a trait of mine that some had pointed out to me was a bad thing. But without my work, I have nothing.

My eyes half closed for a moment, and so I had another sip of the tea. The last thing that I needed was to start yawning in front of him. "
Have things calmed down? Have you heard word of anyone looking for me or my research?"

The exotic tingle in the air still lingered and left the Diarch with a weird sensation. One that seemed like tasting a dish you loved but was made by a different culture with their own spices and flavors. It was not necessarily gross or painful but it did send some kind of signal to the back of his mind that something was... off.

Once they were settled down Rellik decided to take a few sips of his own tea. The natural-ness of it helping settle his own nerves.

Listening to his friend he was happy. It is good to push oneself but he was happy to be the person to make sure a break was taken every now and then. Both have their merits and the hard part was always finding that balance. Certainly some of the scars on the Diarchs body were because he had made the same mistake many times.

He smiled as he spoke responding to Liin. "We have no reports from our intelligence agency of anyone attempting to make their way here to get you. Hopefully our reputation proceeds us and they are to afraid to do so. People tend to think twice when the rumors are that they will end up in a cell for the rest of their lives or dead." Truth be told, that would be there fate and the Diarch was not attempting to hide it. Any criminal organization or hunter who entered their space for a target without permission was subject to terrorism charges.

"I actually brought you a gift made by my apprentice and her assistant." Rellik would bring out a small vial full of red liquid. He looked Liin sternly in the eyes. Ensuring she understood the severity of his next words. "This is a healing potion. BUT, be careful." He had not looked away. If anything he slightly leaned forward. "It also boosts and restores peoples connection to the force... I am unsure how your research is going but if you are feeling very weak, please drink this. Just take small doses to insure nothing scary happens." Then he eased up. There was no threat, it was someone who cared and wanted Liin to understand the potential danger. "This is the Crimson Elixir. Enjoy" with that he handed the vial over to Liin. Hoping to help her if she was ever in a medical emergency. Or perhaps as a fellow scientist wanting to help her research.

I think quietly while Lord Rellik speaks, reflecting on his words. No one has come looking for me. That is good. Although it makes me wonder if perhaps I had covered my tracks well again so that others do not even know where I am to begin with. Afterall it had taken time for some that I had encountered previously to locate me.

After another sip of the tea, I set the cup down gently. He offers me a gift and for a moment I am taken aback before looking to the presented vial. My gaze meets his own and the expression that his give off calls for immediate focus and attention. And so I give him that.

I soon take the vial in hand, cradling it carefully and gently within the curled grasp of my fingers. "
I will look after it well. Thank you. I very much appreciate it. And hopefully there will not come a time upon which it will need to be used." I am no warrior afterall. I have never been in a fight before; and any battles near me I had been quickly whisked away from.

A second thought comes to mind, however. And that is of if this healing potion of sorts would even work on me. Would it have a reverse effect? That is surely something that will need to be tested. "
Does it only work by being injested? Or could a little of it be poured onto a wound as well?"

Rellik smiled as she accepted the vial, watching the way her fingers cradled it not with fear, but with the careful reverence of a scientist handling something both new and potentially dangerous. It was a familiar look. He'd worn it himself many times.

"I hope it never has to be used," he echoed, voice low but sincere. "But I'd rather you have it and not need it, than be left wishing for something you didn't bring."

When she asked about its application, he gave a small nod, pleased by her natural instinct to question.

"It can be taken through different methods," he explained. "Drinking it is the most efficient, especially if the body is in shock. But it can be poured directly onto an open wound and still be effective. Less dramatic, but still potent. I had one field medic mix it into a dermal injector once, and it worked just fine."

He reached into his belt and pulled a second, empty vial, identical in make, save for a thin silver line etched along the base. He rolled it once between his fingers before placing it gently on the table near her elbow.

"That one's inert. For testing. If you want to study it under lab conditions, you'll have a control to compare against. I thought you might like to have one of these. I can see it in your eyes so here you go."

His gaze softened, and he took another sip of his tea.

"You don't have to share results of your works but I am interested. This isn't a trade. Just… something between minds that think alike."

Lord Rellik is right. It is better to have it and not to need it, rather than the opposite.

I listen quietly as he responds to my questions. It is a bit of a relief that injesting is not the only way that this potion of sorts can be applied. And that will certainly help with it's testing.

As if he was reading my mind, Lord Rellik produced another vial. I give him an amused smile as he remarks on seeing the curiosity and need for study within my eyes. It is almost as though I am working alongside Mr. Usher Mr. Usher again. For he too is intuitive in that way when it comes to my inherit scientific curiosity.

And then he presses, just a little, on his own curiosity into my work. I know that I should be completely open about it all; yet the fact that I am using myself for a test subject might not be so readily welcomed. I plan on saving that fact for a later conversation.

"
Well I have a few biomass specimens that I can test it's effects on. Afterall there is only one way to see if it disrupts my research. Has this potion been used on people without Force Wizard powers or abilities?"

"Yes. It has been used on people without what you call 'Force Wizard powers,'" he said, the faintest trace of humor in his voice at her chosen phrase. "On them, it functions primarily as a regenerative tonic, faster cellular repair, improved circulation, quicker clotting. It won't suddenly make someone lift boulders with their mind. But the body remembers what strength feels like, and the Elixir brings that memory forward."

He gestured lightly with one hand, his tone even. "For Force sensitives, the effect doubles, healing and an attunement boost. That's why I warned caution. Too much, too quickly, and it can overwhelm even a trained mind. But in non-sensitives? Safer, more predictable. No risks of visions or surges."

He studied her for a moment, not pressing, only observing the scientist in her. "If you want to test it on biomass specimens, it should give you clean results. You'll see what it does at a cellular level long before you decide if it deserves closer trials."

Then his smile returned, faint but sincere. "Overall, I do hope you have been well. I know I can not be around often but I hope when you think of someone to talk about your studies or struggles with that you think of me. Through brutal ritual and dark magics I have given some species attunement to the force. I should have you meet my Adar mount. Pyrrhax. It is a much more primitive and dangerous form of force imbuement but something you might be interested in with time."
