Light It Up
Jakku
Acrid. Dusty. Filthy. Barren. These were the qualities of Jakku. Pleasantries, those of delicate design, and anything one might consider beautiful were traits one would never use to describe, nor see, on this dust bowl of a planet. So too the idea of law became loose fitting, typically rendered by the person with the bigger ego and the faster shot. But above all, it was the perfect place for one to make themselves lost. Not just in a crowd, but to the galaxy as a whole. Rarely did anyone visit the planet willingly, fewer still ever left. Centuries had passed, yet the graveyard of starships lingered on, their skeletons a host for salvagers and creatures alike.
Mariya wiped her forehead with the back of her hand, glancing up towards the rising sun to gauge the time. Her bronze colored goggles protected her eyes and dimmed the bright glare against the dunes. The speeder she was in the midst of repairing needed a few more parts; notably a handful of compression tubes and a thruster flap. Trouble was getting the parts. It wasn't quite like she could sling a few credits and pick up what she needed. It required either a salvage run which pitted its own dangers, or a barter with one of the local bosses that would swindle you of your boots if they could squeeze it out of you.
The small hut she had to call her own was decent enough. It provided shelter from the elements, a place to sleep, and she had fashioned a small vapor spire to sustain herself, though several times she'd fended off bandits looking to make a quick and easy cred by stealing it. All of this tinkering and living on Jakku however was merely a cover. She'd been waiting for a shipment of arms, military grade blasters and ordnance stolen from the Alliance by turncoats in their ranks. Her slicing through transmissions conducted via the holonet had got her the location and the items to be exchanged, though before she could identify the names and date of the exchange Mariya had to cut the connection or risk being discovered snooping.
Thus she waited, playing the part of a stranded ships mechanic making the most of their newfound life on Jakku.
