Jedi Temple, Tython
Training Rooms

Cordelia 'Cori' Eldoris Cordelia 'Cori' Eldoris

Valoria had been within the training rooms many times before. Of course she had. Most people in this place had. But she had little reason to be there today. Her own training being suspended meant that she now had no use for the room. Perhaps that's why she surprised even herself when she eased the doors open, slipping inside the space. There were a few people here today, but not as many as usual.

Making her way towards the benches on the far side of the room, Valoria took a seat, looking out towards those training. It was useful for your own training, sometimes, watching others train. It gave you ideas of new ways to enhance your own training. New things to attempt and new skills to learn that you hadn't previously considered,

Plus, being here was a nice scenery change in comparison to the silence of the halls in the Temple. She simply watched for a while, comfortable in the atmosphere.

After a while, Valoria tucked one leg up under her chin. Her mind was wandering. It was never good when it did that.

As her mind wandered, so did her emotions. As many people had noted in their indirect observations, her emotions were one big, tangled mess. One which she'd been trying to untangle for the past few months, with little to no success.

Every time she tried, it became too overwhelming, too sensitive. She couldn't go anywhere near those thoughts.

She knew she'd have to face it eventually.

But for now, she would simply try to continue to function as it was expected of her to.

Cori had spent the last few weeks being shuttled from planet to planet, each new mission bringing it's own sets of trying challenges and hurdles.

First, she and a padawan had to track down a mercenary hiding out in a watery outer rim planet.
Then, she had to distribute aid to a alliance aligned world torn apart by natural disaster.
Next, it was up to her to negotiate an uneasy truce between the instigators of a civil war and the government of their world. It hadn't been easy convincing them to pursue a course of peace over the violent path they had already begun to pave.

Being a Jedi could be truly exhausting sometimes.

Yet here she was, despite it all, leaping from moving platforms in the training rooms of the temple. Her lithe body soared through the air as easily as if she was swimming through water. What did it matter that she was Coruscant based? Tython was closer to her next mission, and staying here gave her a welcome chance to blow off some steam before she entered the field again. Activating her lightwhips, she spun into the air in a blur of bright blue plasma, landing on her feet and decimating the training droid with her weapons. Metal fell to the floor, cleanly cut into thirds with just one coordinated strike of her twin blades.

The ersansyr smiled, pleased, deactivating her lightwhips before she sensed someone else in the training room. Turning with her usual characteristic smile, she was ready to warmly greet the newcomer and excitedly introduce herself in her usual overly bubbly way.

Thank the force she let herself fully take the stranger in before she did.

The girl was a twi lek, and she seemed young, most likely a padawan based here. One leg was tucked up under her chin, and she emanated a strong presence in the force. Being skilled at sensing the feelings of others, Cori couldn't help but flinch a little at the dark, volatile emotions swirling within the girl.

She would have to be tactful then. More so than usual.

Walking up to the twi lek, Cori gave her a gentle smile, making sure to hide her somewhat off putting sharp teeth. Channelling as much warmth as possible, she let herself embed subtle hints of calming music into her voice.

"Training is wonderful, but its just as important for a Jedi to take a moment to appreciate the quiet moments like these," she began, taking a careful step forward. "I'm Cori, by the way. I'm a knight, but I'm based at Coruscant so it's likely that you've never heard of me. We used to have a terrible rivalry between the two temples when I was your age."

She laughed a little at that, recalling fond memories of playfully teasing the Tython Jedi who visited the city world, and pretending to be unimpressed by the lush temple when she visited in turn. The recollection brought back a little confidence as she moved closer to the twi lek.

"May I join you?" Cori gestured cheerfully to the seat next to the girl. "I promise I don't bite."

Valoria was pulled from her thoughts as someone spoke to her. Glancing over, she noticed it was the ersansyr who had been training just moments ago. She must've completely zoned out, because she hadn't heard their approach at all.

The girl was considerably older than herself. A Jedi knight. From Coruscant, no less. It was no suprise that they'd never met before. Her voice was welcoming, and seemingly clearing her mind, if only for the duration she was speaking.

She adjusted her position, sitting up properly again. Her mind was turning over what the other girl, Cori, had said. It took a moment before she found it in herself to answer.

"Uh, yeah, you can join me. No worries."
She said, before she could even fully register what she was saying.

She had been grateful for the silence, but company wouldn't be rejected by her. Comparisonship could be nice sometimes. If only for the fact that it might distract her from her own thoughts.

"I'm Valoria." She added, as if on an afterthought. "I'm a Jedi Padawan here."

Although, how much longer she would be one, she couldn't say.

"You probably figured that already though." Valoria said with a half-hearted laugh.

The level of emotion emmiting from her had lessened from where it had been before. It was muffled now, still present under the surface, but no longer prominent.

"You're good with your blades." Valoria commented. She knew about the existence of light whips, but she'd never seen one in action before. Not properly.

"It's not the most common choice of weapon either. Never seen them in use before."

She thought it impressive. They carried their own sort of elegance and grace that Valoria would never be able to replicate with her own lightsabers.

"Uh, yeah, you can join me. No worries."

"Thank you," Cori immediately took a seat next to the girl, fussing with her skirts a little as she did. When she had finally gotten them to settle, the iridescent fabric pooled around her legs in soft pink and purple waves. Cori smoothed them out one final time before the twi lek next to her offered her her name.

"It's wonderful to meet you, Valoria," the knight smiled, turning her full attention back to her companion. She offered the girl a giggle in response to her sarcastic comment. "Why yes, it did indeed cross my mind that you were a padawan. I'm more than just a pretty face, you know." She finished with a playful wink.

Tuning into Valoria's emotions for a moment, Cori was pleased to sense that they had dulled somewhat, forgotten in favour of the distracting presence of the ersansyr. Good. If she could keep the twi lek focussed on other things for long enough, Valoria would eventually learn to ignore whatever conflict was taking place in her heart, just like she did.

Cori knew all to well how to deal with overwhelming emotions. Throughout her whole life they had chased her down, but the ersansyr would always out swim them. She went from task to task and distraction to distraction so quickly she forgot the pain and horror that threatened to pin her to the ocean floor. She lost herself in the oblivion of duty.

"You're good with your blades."

Valoria's comment pulled the Jedi knight back out of her thoughts. Her words were enough for Cori to forget entirely about hiding her teeth, as her mouth immediately split into a toothy grin.

"Thank you! You're very kind," she beamed. At Valoria's comment about the rarity of her weapon, the ersansyr nodded knowingly. "You're right, they definitely are a highly unusual type of weapon. When I first spoke to my old master about building my sabers in this way, he told me that it was my choice to make, but I was choosing the most difficult option. He was right, of course. When constructing your weapon, choosing anything rare, whether it be a lightwhip, lightpike, light axe or even a double bladed saber, means losing out on the centuries worth of amassed knowledge and advice that the order has on single bladed weapons. My master warned me it would not be easy for me to master these weapons without an expert to guide me, but my heart was set."

"I mean, I just simply couldn't help but be drawn to the idea. Their reach is unparalleled, their flexibility invaluable," she continued fondly, "But the most important thing to me was their ability to capture and entangle enemies. That, and their tendrils remind me of the jellyfish back home."

Cori's smile softened a little at that, falling silent once more before abruptly turning to Valoria, lightwhips in hand. "Would you like to take a look at them?"

Valoria was slightly thrown off at seeing the other girls teeth. They looked sharp, sharp enough cut flesh with ease. Her mind briefly wondered if the ersansyr used it as a weapon. She couldn't imagine biting anyone as a means of defense for herself. Valoria dismissed those thoughts quickly.

She listened intently as the other girl spoke. Cori seemed to speak a lot. Valoria didn't mind. It simply means there was less that she had to say to maintain conversation. Which she was not complaining about.

Everything Cori said about the blade Valoria believed to be true. It made sense, being such an uncommon form, that there would be way less info on them within the archives. It was impressive really, the fact that she was able to use the lightwhip with such grace and elegance.

Valoria had no doubt that it'd been hard to construct. Just the thought of attempting it... Valoria wouldn't have a clue where to start. Still, they were pretty damn cool.

Then the lightwhips were extended to her.

"Would you like to take a look at them?"

It took a moment before Valoria responded.

"I mean, if that's alright with you, I'd love to." She'd never thought she'd get so close to a blade as intricate as them.

"Gosh, I'd hate to break them or something. Wouldn't that be awful. Only just met you and I'm already breaking your stuff." She gave another half-humourous laugh. "It'd be a great first impression."

Although, she rather doubted she'd be able to break it if she tried. They looked pretty well constructed. You'd hope it was well constructed. It'd be rather unfortunate if it fell apart mid-fight.

Cori watched with a smile as the girl examined her blades, chuckling a little at her suggestion that she might break them. "Don't worry, I must have broken them myself a thousand times trying to put them together - once they were finally fully constructed, they'd already been through hell and back. But hey, they're basically indestructible now."

"But in all seriousness, there is absolutely no need to fret about first impressions," the ersansyr added, letting a sense of genuine honesty sing through her voice. "I don't judge anyone based on our first interaction alone. No aspiring diplomat should."

A subtle silence fell between them for a moment, and Cori hurried to fill it, pointing out the wider end of the shaft of her lightwhips. "This part is a little thicker to hide the ignition pulse I had to install so that the blade functions underwater. I'd be happy to teach you to do the same, but I will warn you - mention that little detail of your saber to the council just once and you'll be going on aquatic missions for the rest of your life."

"Not that I mind!" She added hastily. "I love the ocean, truly! I mean, I was born under the water, after all. But you know, it does get tiring sometimes, being the go to Jedi for every mission taking place in a marine environment. The drawbacks of being a specialist, I suppose."

"Do you think you'll specialise in something, once you become a knight?" Cori asked Valoria curiously. "There's no shame in choosing not to, if you haven't decided yet. It may even be easier, in the long run."
