On Precog and Probability

Ashin hated cantinas. Lonely places, and this more than most. The largest moon of Phaegon Three, freshly lawless and undergoing something of a gold rush, produced a lot of disappointed drunks. Maybe her contact wanted to feel superior; maybe that was why he'd selected this place.

She slid the aurodium ingot across the table of the corner booth - carefully bagged - and received a bag in turn. She and the miner surreptitiously examined their bags' contents. Ashin winced as the lignan crystals responded to her, sending out a small but noticeable disturbance in the Force before she could lock down her presence entirely. This was a wild sort of place, and not a good spot for a Grand Admiral with assorted warrants on her head.

She could sometimes sense things coming, but in a place like this, anything could happen.

One such person was a nondescript guy sitting in the corner of the shop, he had a hat on - old skool thing with a hole in the thing, used to belong to a slightly gunho cowboy on Halm - second thing he had on was an ol’ duster ripped at the seams, with a dirty undershirt and loosened tie. Not exactly a fearsome apparition, but who was these days?

The guy wasn’t actually gunning for Varanin, not that he didn’t like the sound of the bounty and warrant on her head. But something told him she was a bit too much for him right here and now, so Khal kept sipping his drink, taking a moment to puff out some smoke here and there.

Gut feeling told him the moment was there yet, would be soon though. Nasty stuff was on the way and then he’d move, probably. Or he would just sit here and finish his drink, it all depended on how things would go.

Guy tilted his head slightly. Lignan. How audacious.

The sense of impending happenings grew stronger. Or maybe that was just anticipation, emotional readiness. Nothing was, after all, happening. A shaggy half-familiar young man was giving her the eye from the other corner. Hed and drank with the air of a man who smokes and drinks to project a certain image. Considering Ashin had killed people for similar reasons, she shouldn't judge.

But that had never stopped her before.
