Description:

The Omen-Class Command Ship is the first use of the Vong Tech the Graug were taught to grow by the Vong during the reign of the Horde. However, the Graug do not believe in the Vong philosophy of not merging mechanical technology with biotech. Thus, they gave birth to a new command ship that was coaxed into growth through Vong techniques while Graug forgers created a hull meant to fit over the creature like armor.

About the Creature
The creature is a new biological creation of the Graug using DNA from native species of Gratos to form what they call in Graug speak “Blŭk-Thȓan”, meaning Blood Spider. The creature got this name due to the fact that the most prominent DNA used in its creation was that of the colossal dread spider, which can be seen in the shape of the ship’s “body”. Unlike most Vong tech, the creature that makes up the ship is an abomination of yorik coral and dread spider DNA infused into one, creating a semi-sentient beast that is completely obedient to the will of whoever sits in the cognition throne of the vessel.

The Blŭk-Thȓan, much like other vong creations, uses yorek coral as a basis for its circulatory systems and possess the need for nutrients to stay alive. Thanks to the hull shell that has been placed over the creatures, nutrient deposits can be kept within the mechanical shell in case the ship finds itself in critical need while in space. Due to the predatory nature of the host species (dread spiders) the ship requires nutrition in the form of semi-sentient or sentient species such as wookiees, humans etc. While the ship can still consume all nutrients for the purposes of reconstructing lost portions of its body, not all will work to effectively sustain the abomination. This means that without proper sacrifice of animals or people, the ship will slowly begin to wither and die.

Despite needing to feed and having a lifespan (which ranges from 500 to 1,500 years), the creature has some very helpful features. The beast has the ability to properly land on a planet with its massive claw-like feet and can then move around freely on the planet’s surface before using a mix of repulsor lift’s and natural organic propellants to lift back off. However, problems during the growing process have rendered the creature’s body highly vulnerable to gases found in most breathable atmospheres. Since the beast was being grown to survive in the vacuum of space, great effort was put into keeping the creature from needing extensive oxygen requirements to live. To do this, the beast was engineered to live solely off of nitrox which could be stored in abundance in the armor hull and keep the beast living in space much longer than it could on oxygen. This, however, led to the ship becoming easily intoxicated by the abundance of natural air found on planets.

Much in the same way that a scuba diver can become overwhelmed by the pure oxygen they breathe from their tanks, the ship’s organic tissue can feel the same effects from the atmosphere alone. Thus, the ship can only spend short periods of time on the planet before the gases absorbed into its body begin to overwhelm the creature. Thus, if the ship spends more than an hour to an hour and a half on a planet’s surface it will become so ‘intoxicated’ by the foreign gases that will cause it to slip into a state of unconsciousness. This means that all organic weapons will be rendered inoperable and the ship will then crash into the surface of the planet. While the impact may not kill the beast, staying in the environment too long will.

The only way that this weakness is counter balanced is when the creature begins xenoforming procedures. The creature has the ability to create and expel greenhouse gases and other chemicals from its body to slowly poison or change the atmosphere. When this procedure is being done, however, the beast goes into a deep hibernating state that renders it motionless and all organic weapons completely inoperable. The hibernating state keeps it from being overwhelmed by the atmosphere, but it requires additional energy from the hull to lockdown the joints and keep the beast from falling over. As you can imagine this leaves the ship highly vulnerable to attack for weeks as it changes the atmosphere of the planet, only having minor defenses on the hull to protect it.

The beast can also store fighters in ports on its back much in the same manner as other Vong vessels and can also be implanted with a Yammosk (called a war coordinator in basic) that allows for nearly unmatched situational awareness for the captain and his men. However, as the Yammosks use a form of battle mediation that inspires and coordinates troops, the sudden loss of a ship can disorganize an entire invasion force if they are being directed by the Yammosk. Finally, the ships itself possess the ability to send pulses of gravity and electric signals to amplify the effect of its Yammosk but can also use it as a psychological weapon. In space the pulses of gravity work to make enemy forces merely feel uncomfortable, but has no real effect other than this. The thoughts of the captain, however, can be conveyed through intervals of electric pulses that work in a similar manner to battle meditation but not nearly as effective. Instead, the electric signals work to beam messages into the subconscious of an individual to play with their emotions but can be easily dismissed by force users and some strong willed NFUs.

On the ground, these pulses turn into a much more frightening tool as when the beast releases a pulse it sends shocks through the airwaves that give off varying degrees of terrifying screeching and growling sounds.

With the above videobeing an example of various sounds an omen would make while on the ground. It is possible for the beast to release a massive airburst capable of crippling tall buildings and knocking over small ones within a three mile radius, ripping individuals apart and sending small vehicles flying. However, doing so requires a sudden breath of air that is then released with the pulse and thus the ship must immediately take off from the atmosphere after doing so.

While on the ground, the beast is also highly vulnerable to most attacks by airforces as most of its weaponry cannot be aimed correctly while in the vertical walking position. The other downside to this is that the most vulnerable part of the beast (as a result of the dread spider DNA) is the underbelly of its back. While in a vertical walking position, the underbelly is open to clear fire from both the ground and the air. The shields and slight armoring from the hull-armor are enough to withstand a large amount of blasts, but once they are pierced the ship can easily be killed with but a single well placed volley (depending on the weapons used). However, while in space, the creature can use its massive claw like legs in the same manner that a Dread Spider would in Graug combat. If it is close enough to a ship it can latch on or strike it with its massive legs, ripping it apart of or grabbing it to fire mercilessly into its hull. However, when doing so the ship’s vulnerable underbelly is left open for attack.

Strengths of Creature:
- Can use Vong tech and IS vong tech
- Can land on planets
- Can xenoform atmospheres
- Can make fearsome sounds for moral drain
- Can use an air pulse
- Doubles as an semi-organic command center
- Can regenerate lost parts of its body without needing a factory
- Can use its front legs as weapons

Weaknesses of Creature:
- Being an organic creature, damage sustained takes time to heal and if the armor is penetrated can cause wounds that continue to kill the creature as the battle goes on
- Suffers from organic setbacks such as the need to eat and breath a certain atmosphere
- Can only stay on the ground for an hour and a half at maximum
- The underbelly is extremely vulnerable and is an open target when on the ground or for planetary cannons.
- Slow moving when on the ground
- If destroyed in battle, will result in the disorganization of the entire invasion force
- Regeneration process can be slow depending on the severity of the wound.
- Has a lifespan and needs to feed in order to keep operational
- When using its front legs as weapons, it’s underbelly is left exposed for the duration of the attack.

About the Hull-Armor
The hull of the ship serves two manners in this situation. First, it is the section of the ship where most of all the crewman serve and run the operations. Second, it serves as a large warbeast type armor for the Vong creature that has been designed by Graug forgers as their biggest project yet. The armor is strapped, welded and biologically attached to the creature’s skin to keep it from ever being removed in the same manner that it is for Graug warbeasts. By far the greatest challenge for the Graug was creating an armor that could both serve as a hull and sustain its own power source on a capital ship level. During the construction of the armor on Bosph, there was a critical failure of the shield systems that resulted in the deaths of multiple Graug engineers. Thus eliminating the prospect of having shields.

The hull is made out of standard ship materials, Qundanium steel reinforced with titanium supports and rebar. The corridors are sleek and angular and made from a purple painted Qundanium shell to give the crewmen an extra layer of protection (though it wouldn’t do much good in a real fight). The observation deck has a series of transparisteel windows that sit in the midsection of the front of the ship and is where human engineers work to operate the ship during combat. The cognition throne, however, is located far behind the observation deck and lies in a junction connecting the armor to the beast.

Aside from the nitrox pumps and food storage, the armor is nearly only for cosmetic effects.

Other General Weaknesses

- The ship lacks a payload of starfighters thus requires the assistance of starships that can hold space combat fighters and interceptors
- The xenoforming ability that the beast has is a massive hit to the amount of offensive weaponry the ship can support
- Being an organic ship that is semi-sentient, the ship can feel pain and though it will never disobey its captain its efficiency will decrease severely as more damage is taken. (Weapons will refuse fire, growls and pulses will be directed at its hull etc).
- The ship lacks many defensive capabilities and is vulnerable to planetary defenses (even more so on the ground). It requires the company of anti-fighter vessels in order to be uses efficiently.

First thing that'll need to be addressed as it is a bit of a deal breaker; Vong tech and standard galaxy tech do not mix. So if this is gonna be using Vong tech primarily, then the other stuff will have to go, or vice versa.

Okay took off non-vong weapons and made the armor cosmetic for the most part, aside from the nitrox and nutrient pumps. I'm trying to keep those to show that the Graug have not perfected the tech given to them from the vong and so thus why the creature needs this additional support.

Unfortunately, and I quote the guide;

  • New Major Factions are allowed mass-produced ships up to 1,000 meters in length.
  • A faction development thread of at least 60 quality posts with three or more individual writers will allow the Major Faction to build up to the present cap of 2,000 meters.
Until the New Order completes a shipyard development thread, they will be unable to produce and maintain 1,000+ meter ships.

It is for that reason that I must deny this until such a time as the dev thread is complete.

I would like to see this as a unique ship, So with the general warning that I will be watching this and will deny it if we find your abusing it, I will permit two of them, and please keep in mind that I am putting trust in you to use this carefull and responsibly. Don't ruin that trust please, I will change my verdict in a heartbeat if so.

Hate to do this, but I'm going to have to revoke this approval. The qworlth skaal weapons have a very real potential for abuse, and I would like to see them balanced. I'm sorry, Krag, but this one's going to have to be dissected a little before we let it through.

If another judge would please pick this up.
