Droid Automated Repair Upgrade

(Much of the above equipment refers to modern items - as no Jedi War era items are listed, these have been substituted to give the same effect - as detailed in the description, the droid is wholly original and cannot be modified or upgraded, the self-repair mechanism rejects ‘new’ parts like a humans autoimmune system)

Strengths:

 • Why Won't You Just Die?: /over time, the droid is capable of repairing itself through the scavenging and consumption of materials, taking longer for more severe instances of damage.

 • Smarter than the Average Bes’uliik: Old One Eye has never suffered a memory wipe in thousands of years, it certainly qualifies as semi-sapient and may well classify as some alien type of sapience. It has a long memory of adaptive tactics and battlefields to draw upon, and unlike most Bes’uliik is fully capable of operating without its rider. Although as with all Bes’uliik it becomes less efficient - it has no imagination.

 • Armed to the Teeth: The weapons may be old, but they’re still effective. The Bes’uliik was built to engage the heaviest foes the Mandalorian Empire faced.

 • Shielded and Armoured: The Bes’uliik has both beskar construction and a deflector shield generator, which when active makes it very difficult to harm, even before you get to it’s regeneration.

 • Loyal to a Fault: Once imprinted on a rider, Old One Eye will bear no other… usually, in exceptional circumstances (such as a dying or dead rider) the unit will permit others to ride it for brief periods.

Weaknesses:

 • Commands? More Like Guidelines: Old One Eye has a mind of it’s own, and sometimes believes it knows battles better than it’s rider and treats command inputs as recommendations. Riding it requires exceptional skill and a willingness to accept your mount will go it’s own way sometimes, and that the mount is a lot more survivable than you are and can forget that, in particular, challenges to Old One Eye on the battlefield tend to get it’s direct attention, assuming the source of the challenge appears a significant threat.

 • Blind in One Optic: While it has advanced sensor suites (for the time), the unrepairable wound on it’s right hand side has removed all optical sensory capacity on that flank - it still has any 360 degree sensors such as radar etc from it’s sensor arrays, but it’s close range sensors are utterly blind from this aspect.

 • Attack or Defend?: The unit may activate it’s Deflector Shield Generator or it’s Shockwave Rods and Particle Cannon - it cannot activate both at once due to the power drain.

 • Use Your Own Air: The unit has no provision for internal life support for rider or passenger.

 • Cargo?: The unit has no internal cargo - items can be strapped to the hull (such as battle trophies and personal equipment).

 • Not a Starfighter: Like all Bes’uliik, the unit is not designed for space combat and it’s poor etheric rudder design gives it the turning circle of a freighter, a wallowing freighter. It will lose any turning battle in space combat.

 • Not What you’d call fast: The unit is averagely agile on the ground, but is not quick, even for a Bes’uliik design. It doesn’t lumber but, it’s speed / agility might best be compared to a grizzly bear, rather than a tiger or more agile animal. When in the air, it’s comparatively slow due to being an older design.

DESCRIPTION
Ruug'la'solus'sur'haai, Old One Eye, has fought on the battlefields of Mandalore and across the galaxy for thousands of years, so long that no one knows its true origins anymore. It is said to date from the first Mandalorian / Jedi War and has been described by multiple riders throughout the centuries as a 'one eyed, and cantankerous old beast'. While ancient and equipped with weaponry from a different era, it's said the Red Scar has never suffered a memory wipe in its history and the ancient creature is wiley and clever, fully capable of overriding it’s riders commands or of acting without a rider, and with a memory of battle that spans several thousand years. Of course, the inevitable code overrun that such a long period without a wipe entails has given it some… unique quirks, such as the opinion that it is the alpha predator on any battlefield. While it will not try to harm it’s rider and it does possess a cockpit that can be fully enclosed, to survive as one of it’s riders you have to have a knack for survival that matches the bes’uliiks.

Old One Eye was equipped with an experimental model droid self repair system and advanced synthesis systems, as well as an intake model (it’s jaws) and a feeding module (it’s claws) with the aim that it could repair itself on the battlefield. What it became was both wildly successful and ultimately a failure. Old One Eye cannot die - so long as the core body remains mostly intact, the experimental self repair system will restore it to functionality if provided energy and material input. Unfortunately, it is unable to accept alteration, modification or repair - the one attempt to do so permanently scarred the droid as it treated the ‘wound’ as a natural part of its design pattern, rendering it’s optics on the right hand side inoperable. Further, it seems that the experimental repair system interacted… poorly with the early model droid brain and the bes’uliik was too self-willed for most riders - killing several by accident.

None the less, for a warrior capable of mastering the droid, Old One Eye is one of the premiere unique mounts of the Mando’ade, along with the White Iron Beast and Black Sky - it’s design philosophy differ, being built in an age when overwhelming firepower and toughness was the best way to kill Jedi. The droid has remained the possession of House Kryze since its creation, at least according to legend. It was destroyed during the plague at the battle of high pass, when a group of Mandalorians sought to draw off attacking raiders from the remains of their clans by fighting a futile battle to the death, and has slept there ever since. It was recovered recently by Shia Kryze and Yasha Mantis, who defeated the Sky Demon guarding the pass and… made peace with the ancient war droid as they awoke it (after a few mishaps).

If other bes’uliik are tigers, this is a bear - it’s not precisely lumbering, but it’s not fast, it hits like a freight train and can sleep through endless winters - and is supremely tough. It’s not without weak spots - it’s entire right hand side is a giant weak spot for a clever opponent, but the weakest spot on the droid is without a doubt it’s rider.

Personality wise, the droid can be described very much as the stereotypical grizzly bear - if those could be ridden - ancient, wise, bad tempered and prone to excessive violence in combat to defend its rider or people it perceives its rider to care about. This can and has caused ‘friendly fire’ incidents where the droid became confused.

The droids appearance is also more ursine than other bes’uliik, with a large set of ursine-style jaws beneath the shockwave generator rod cluster, as well as large claws.

Overall, this is a colorfully written and very unique bes'uliik. Everything looks pretty good to me save for the regenerative aspect of this thing. While I understand the intent of the characteristic, combining heavy firepower with heavy shielding and a capacity to heal itself sounds a bit much to me. However, I'm fine with this strength being in place. Tone down the verbiage just a little in that strength area because I would rather not seeing this thing saving itself from the throes of death in the matter of a few minutes.

Otherwise this looks good enough for me to stamp approved. Tag me when you're done with the edits. Thanks!

 • Will not Die: Old One Eye’s greatest strength. The self-repair capacity of this Bes’uliik is sometimes considered to be unmatched - in combat it can scavenge material from itself (shutting down other systems) or by using its jaws to ‘eat’ in order repair battle damage, but the process takes time dependant on the level of damage suffered. Moderate damage (a weapon or system) can be repaired in half a minute, either at the cost of deactivating another equivalent system or by intaking raw materials (which also takes time). Major damage (lost limbs) takes upwards of ten minutes and almost always requires raw material, while near total destruction can take hours or days. Outside of combat, if given enough time, power and materials it will fully restore to working order with no outside intervention.
I've tried to keep it so that it has some combat regeneration power - you lose a laser, you can shut down a missile launcher to get it back up, or eat a defeated droid - but it takes time. Anything more serious is several poses / a considerable period of time in any realistic situation.

Does that seem appropriate?

Very acceptable. A unique bes'uliik with proper development and just above average armament. It's smart and durable but has its weaknesses in speed and combat efficiency in spacial combat.

Awesome. Pending Secondary Approval. Thanks! [member="Jamie Pyne"]

Will not Die:
I apologize, I was informed that I overlooked this when I approved this.

This violates our character creation rules regarding invincibility/immortality:

Please tone this strength down. Self-repair from total destruction will not be permitted, and the name of this strength will need to be changed to something that does not directly imply immortality/invincibility.

Apologies, as this application is not for a character I did not believe it violated those rules, certainly not in a material fashion to affect storytelling.

I have made the requested changes as edits.

Hopefully the following text is appropriate:

Just rephrase the description to state that, over time, the droid is capable of repairing itself through the scavenging and consumption of materials, taking longer for more severe instances of damage. You can use that exact wording, if you'd like, but in the instance of this submission it's better not to go too far into detail.
