Olaf was born to unknown parents on an unknown world because Lucasfilm won't tell us about said planet, what's important is that after he grew into a young man, he left his home in search of an outlet for his sensitivity to the force. Like all others in his race, he found the Jedi, and joined their order, learning the ways of the light with an extreme amount of interest, hoping to one day live up to the standard set by other members of his species within the order's history. But that is a long road to walk, but thankfully, as demonstrated by the other members of his species, he had time.
