Ohmic Resistance

Senator of the Techno Empire, Protector of Ringo Vinda, these were the main titles Charzon held that were unrelated to her business. But as Protector of Ringo Vinda, she knew she would be called upon to protect Ringo Vinda by any means necessary, even, if necessary, commandeering elements from the Ringo Vinda Territorial Defense Force. Or the SSC fleet. The trick is that the space trials of the carrier prototype were about to begin. The fleet carrier prototype featured many components its original hull couldn't mount for regulatory reasons, including this new heavy mass driver which has the range of a long-range hypervelocity cannon that was even referred to as such during development. And, of course, 10 squadrons of fighters, but some of the passenger or cargo space would have to be sacrificed. It would still be able to land on planets, primarily as a means of also being able to be used as a troop transport capable of transporting 10,000 men and their equipment, for about 50,000 tons of cargo, a far cry from the 50 million tons its old hull could carry.

"Captain, all systems go. Ship-wide neural net online" the chief engineer reported.

"Ready when you are, captain" Julie, the pilot, told Charzon.

"Reverse thrusters" Charzon ordered.

Why did human things have to be so huge? crud now she had to try and walk. walking was so kekkin slow.
Seriously she hated how tall every thing was so.. tall things were never so tall.
dammed she missed her wings.

Libita class command carrier (modification development)

[member="Charzon Loulan"]

The ship flashed out of hyperspace cluttering the area around it. This ship was a pleasure to fly and somewhat felt safer now the ultrachrome Hull had been ripped off replaced with matrix. While ultrachrome did work to protect against energy based weapons it was limited and a potential hazard. To much energy and the Hull would melt so fast anything inside would be sucked out into the cold depths of space. Along with the Libita some of the 23rd fleet had came along towing some old remnants of vessels long forgotten.

"Officer bring thrusters down to half. Lieutenant try get hold of captain Charzon." Taneas had been in command of the vessel for two years now. One of the commanders he'd never met and Sanya had duties that didn't entitle been in the fleet. Still two years and not once did he have to wear regulation uniform but the past week he'd been ordered he'd have to wear the bland black and yellow uniform. It was comfortable he couldn't deny that but it wasn't him.

Taneas stood right up at the window with I'll the different individuals behind him. All with a different job yet the same. No one man could pilot this vessel. It took an entire small city's worth.

"Sir we are patching you through now."

"Well done lieutenant put the hologram up on the tac table." He said walking down the walkway to the large table closer. "Miss Loulan. We've come bearing gifts as promised." The targets where no bigger than seven hundred meters long and some enough power left in them to have the sheilds operational.

Replacing a triple-turret Lusankya by a Summer heavy mass driver worth 90 turbolasers for regulatory purposes. As the fleet carrier prototype backs up, with 10 squadrons of fighters in tow, huddled in the ceiling racks, its sensors are picking up new contacts. Two ships of vastly different sized: the Libita, on the one hand, and a Berdick-class micro-freighter. The latter meant that an As-Aki party would even attempt to board. But wherever Charzon goes, that As-Aki called Lyth Meran would follow. And with it Meran Mechanics. Was Ringovinda StarYards more than just a middleman for Meran Mechanics? Charzon was more than puzzled. She would never imagine that the corporation would put up with it. But once clear of the Sacul slipway in which it was built, Charzon would have it descend a few kilometers from it and then commence performing sublight maneuverability tests, as well as sublight acceleration tests. With the new chief process officer at its helm, a Jedi Padawan named Julie Jutland.

"Captain, we're clear of the slipway" Julie told Charzon.

"New contacts on the sensors: the former Republican flagship, the Libita, and a Berdick micro-freighter" the sensor technician told her in turn.

"It appears that the Berdick micro-freighter is hailing us"

" Greetings this is Berdick freighter 77716 Blood Princess. Lyth Meran here. Meran Mechanics received a Holo you required a Microengineer. well here i am. " the fa.. As-Aki answered tryinhg to hide her back. this was going to be fun.

"Blood Princess, you may dock the micro-freighter inside the main hangar bay. However, it is full of TIE Reavers on ceiling racks. Just stand clear of the ceiling racks"

Ceiling racks are the only thing that make sense on a carrier that was previously used as a bulk freighter. 2000 meters of carrier were going to depart the scene, and there were only two supercarriers in the galaxy, one of which was there on site. Unlike most supercarriers she knew about, the fleet carrier she would design and deploy on Castameer as part of an epic superweapon chase on behalf of the GR. The other was stashed somewhere in Mando-land, by virtue of being the Mandalorian flagship. Charzon began using 10 squadrons of TIE/rv Reavers (ideal for ceiling-rack mounting), and asking them to prepare for launch. But she began converting one of the Ultima units in an attempt to appease the board even if it meant becoming a purveyor of carriers. Said reconditioning was Julie's first dossier in office as chief process officer after the last one was hired as the CEO of another corporation. They had one light carrier, frigate-sized, 2 squadrons apiece, even though most of the sales were made in freighter form.

"The only reason why I insisted on reconditioning this Ultima-class was because the Silver Jedi had no carrier in that size bracket"

"All squadrons, get ready for launch! Command and control tests are underway!"

The ship kept moving at a slow and steady pace towards the others. The few hammerhead's and udarniks kept in tight formation around the Libita still towing the old relics of ships. ships not even worth the repairs. But been old war ships they couldn't be sold off for scap either. Leaving them to be blown up. "Twenty third fleet space out those scrap ships on a show case formation." He said addressing all ships under his command. More blips showed on the tactical table coming from the prototype ship. He wanted to see the abilities of the pilots so he could judge later. It took a matter of a half hour to set up. Enough time for systems check on their end. "[member="Charzon Loulan"] your firing range is set up. Would you like me to have interceptors to make it a challenge? They'd be using target systems to determine hits. No live rounds would be used."

"All squadrons deployed, captain!" the wing commander told Charzon.

"All clear, Blood Princess. I hope you know your way around a ship during a space wargame"

Using this testing round as a wargame was more than tempting, she would use the ponderous TIE/rv Reavers on a course to but with the laser cannons set on wargame mode, that would mean these TIE Reavers would be facing the entire fleet's fighter complement: it would mean that, if they could land a few good hits, they would blast the interceptors 16 squadrons worth of those, but they would themselves take hits for wargame purposes, just that it would be a question of rapid-fire Gatlings and of heavy Nekogals to blast off these old, rickety frigates, once the carrier arrives within range. That was going to take a while because the Ultima, carrier or not, would be rather ponderous, slow and hard to maneuver around. Thank the Force that this is only a wargame and nothing truly serious. Unlike what they expect on Castameer, where the entire naval might of the Republic would be brought to bear, alongside other factions. Better stay out of range from the Mandalorian fleets though. Mandos will be out for Charzon, Taneas, Sanya et al.

"Hypervelocity gun ready to fire, captain"

"We answered the call of the Republic for engaging the One Sith over Castameer, we just need the proper ships for that. This is where we come in" Julie told the rest of the bridge crew.

"Hold your fire, we know our enemies on Castameer will have several battlecruisers. The entire One Sith fleet has assembled there and it is up to all of us to fight"

"The hypervelocity gun is there for those cruiser+ sized enemies; the entire firing range has only frigates in there" the hypervelocity gun commander told Charzon.

" im here to run tests on that neural net. make sure the things working. " she responded to the voice "this may sound stupid .. But ive recentlu lost my ability to.. performe some tasks shall we say. i may need some assistance. can i request a crew member to assist?"

"Who is this?" the chief security officer asked. "Some... As-Aki?"

"Oh yes, I know the As-Aki commanding officer of the Blood Princess. She worked on multiple Ringovinda StarYards projects, the broomstick, the ship-wide neural net, to name the most recent. I believe her request is receivable. Engineering, give her one crew member to help her out while onboard"

As the carrier, which is to be Charzon's flagship as the protector of Ringo Vinda, as well as Charzon's flagship on Castameer, approaches the squadrons of frigates being deployed, the squadrons of bombers reported hits on multiple sides; because they were slow, they had to resort to stonewall tactics whereby they form some spherical formation so that, if the front ships are attacked, the rear ones can attack back; that's often how the bombers could score some hits nonetheless, even though, on the whole, they receive more hits than they dish out. Two squadrons of frigates, this is time for the Nekogals set on a simulation of full-power, and Gatlings, to start using their firing solutions. These were two squadrons of frigates they were talking about, now appearing on the tactical table at the center of the carrier's bridge. This is where the challenge begins, the real test of the firepower of that carrier. But point-defense would be on wargame mode since the interceptors may well be going for the carrier.

"Picking up some readings, two squadrons of frigates: one made of Hammerheads and another of Udarniks, captain" the sensor technician told the bridge officers.

"Frigate squadron #1 in range, to starboard, frigate squadron #2 seems to be crippled enough to be as slow as cruisers"

"Hypervelocity gun, fire at frigate squadron #2, all starboard batteries, concentrate all your fire at the nearest Hammerhead"

He studied the tactical map getting a feeling of the bombers tactics. Most interceptors where flying usual patterns around the test area. He knew [member="Charzon Loulan"] was eager to test out some of the weapons with live. So when someone shouted out that the prototype vessel was giving out a large energy signal taneas knew he'd need to have his interceptors pull to the udarnik's. Mainly following the bombers.

"Tight wing formations and swing around to the udarnik's. Lets give them some breathing room and Stay clear of the hammerhead's and watch the show." Warning the pilots to prepare and not to be alarmed.

Slowly walking from the after bridge into the front. His arms would cross behind his back watching out the window. "How are the sensor nodes doing on been placed?" He asked openly hoping someone would know the answer. "Sir about three quarters have been placed. Our teams are working on placing the rest under the armor." Said the silvery voice behind him. "Very good. Bring up a small display in the back and tell me when it's complete. This is a good opportunity for us to find out if there are any structural weak points in the new Hull."

"Their formations are tightening, they are heading for the Udarniks. Shall we give them chase?"

"You will be overtaken by the enemy interceptors. But as soon as they overtake you, fire"

Now that the entire carrier's starboard broadside was aimed at the closest derelict Hammerhead, Charzon was ready to fire. Knowing that the dorsal battery would include the firepower of 36 normal turbolasers, that was going to hurt, and hurt badly. Plus an extra 16 from the secondary battery (being 2 double turrets capable of each firing 4x times as fast as a normal dual turbolaser turret) that's the equivalent 52 turbolaser hits the derelict Hammerhead would sustain with one cycle worth a turbolaser recharge cycle. But, with the underside turret being able to fire the equivalent of 90 turbolasers thanks to its 380mm-caliber explosive shells, its focus changed from the Udarnik squadron, where the fighter squadrons would merrily resume that portion of the wargame, to the Hammerhead squadron, where the mass driver would be trained out of normal turbolaser range and still within long-range.

"We might have a better chance if we hit the farthest Hammerhead with a heavy mass-driver hit: their fighter screen appear to be headed towards the second squadron, captain"

"Starboard batteries, fire!"

( Sorry been buisy. and i have no idea what to post.)

Lyth exited on uneasy legs. still not used to them.
she awaited the arrival of one of the engineers. it was either that or she walked the equivalent of a frekin continent.

"Here, Lyth, anywhere you want to go?" the crew member asked Lyth, with the glass can extended so that she can hop inside it. "I will take you anywhere you want"

Meanwhile, in the main hangar's ceiling, the crew member prepared a glass can large enough to carry an As-Aki in it because said crew member knew the As-Aki were slow and the ship is large enough to feel like a continent to them. While anxiously waiting on the outcome of the broadsides of the ship being demonstrated in capital ship-vs-capital ship combat, it was the first time they operationally tested the things - aside from a few skirmishes under Maersk Star Freight or Bluth Company who mostly resorted to point-defense guns, with spare use of the turbolasers, except when the pirate ships were CR90-sized or heavier, in which case the turbolasers were used more liberally against capital ships. Julie was ecstatic to actually fly a capital ship in anything remotely resembling combat situations. Pirates rarely fought in anything larger than a frigate; cruisers were large, too large for the upkeep they required. Not even a pirate faction like the Black Sun could afford to field too many cruisers. Before another volley could be fired, however, Charzon had instructions for the IT support crew that picked that As-Aki up in the hangar's ceiling.

"Take good care of that As-Aki, IT support team: she helped design the ship-wide neural net, take her anywhere she needs to go"

The war game looked like it would soon finnish up. He wasn't interested in keeping a score in reality he saw this as training for both sides while doing the job of ship disposal. Although he was hoping [member="Charzon Loulan"] could help him with another task. Many of the pilots aboard didn't like the idea of shooting at their own vessel mainly because they saw it as a sign of disrespect against their brothers and sisters alike. He understood their point and he wasn't going to force them. Unfortunately he needed enough pilots to fire onto the new armor at the same time to find any structural weaknesses.

Watching the explosion of the hammerheads by what he could tell was a H.V gun he was impressed. Even in battle that ship could present a problem against the libita it's self if used strategically. Still that ment this prototype would have to avoid a critical hit from the Spinal Mounted Forward Fix Dual Heavy Long Ranged Mass Driver Cannon Battery. For many ships a hit from that was the end. Hundreds or thousands of lives ended in a single hit. When put that way the thought was terrifying to him. Taneas preferred a surrender that the obliteration of so many lives. A lot of them only there to follow orders. A lot of them fighting in their beliefs much like everyone aboard this vessel. The end of the day that was the costs of war and it came with it's burdens and responsibilities to remember the lives that stained your hands.

Still Taneas was also one to do what it took to keep going. He'd had countless people ask how he lost his arms and legs all they got was shock from the answer. He had them removed for been inefficient. He was aging and couldn't deny that. But the day he stopped fighting was the day he died. Until the inevitable he would do what it took to keep going at his best. Coming back from his own train of thought he hadn't realized the few that had spoken to him. "Ugh sorry. I was else where." His face drew back to the blank expression. "Sir you wanted me to tell you when the sensors are all in place." The girl said for what could have been the second or third time. "Thank you officer. Have all our ships report back and refuel." He began to walk back into the after bridge where the tactical table was. "Get me [member="Charzon Loulan"] back on the line."

The hologram of the woman appeared scaled down to a third of what her real height was. "Captain Loulan I've a favor to ask." He said sounding more curious than anything. "Do you think your be able to deploy some of your fighters once you've finished off the rest of the targets? I'm in need for your fighters to fire on the Hull of my ship at half the power of there laser cannons. This would help us determine if any area of this ship is structurly weak. Sensors have been placed all over to read the absorption of each shot. How ever your pilots would need to do one section at a time. This is so my people can take accurate readings without been flustered with data."

" Im here to check the relays sorry about this but i... um list my wings so it's walking on legs i barely used. " shi informed the crew man.
" i feel like a frekin burden like this. still i need to check each hub make sure it's slice proof. and it's processing right."

"Hang on tight, Lyth, stay in the glass jar and I'll take you to the closest hub" the IT crew member told Lyth once in the jar.

The crew member assigned with Lyth's protection was going to carry her around every node of the Ship-wide neural net being installed on the ship and that cost only roughly 40,000 credits to develop, thanks to the crowdsourced development made with a slice-o-thon. The development expenses would be paid back fairly quickly even by fitting it only on that ship. And that was also fitted on the Dennaris even more minor spacelines would order, so, from that standpoint, the Ship-wide neural net would be a victory for crowdsourcing design tasks. Meanwhile, on the bridge, Charzon was receiving a transmission from the party that towed two squadrons of derelict frigates for disposal while the starboard weapons were test-fired at full power, alongside the 380mm hypervelocity cannon fired at each Udarnik, requiring three or four hits to destroy one of them. And yet sensor readings indicated that the interceptors were done with their war game. And the request of [member="Taneas Haring"] meant landing 240+ hits from a starfighter at half-power since you have 120 TIE Reavers each equipped with two laser cannons.

"This favor is granted. We all want to make sure the ships we will deploy to hunt down the Sith battlecruisers we all expect to fight will work as we need them to"

"That's ten squadrons' worth of laser fire: if you land 240 hits at half-power from a starfighter-grade laser cannon, what does that mean in turbolaser terms?" Julie asked Charzon.

"All squadrons: stand clear of the frigates. Set your cannons at half-power, and head for the coordinates I will send"

" Dude put me on you'r shoulder. im not a bug. " Lyth laughed.
" Im no good with the mock battle but i can monitor the relays on the net. crank it up to 110 % make it faster. i hope. "
ahe shrugged.
" look sorry to say its going to be a long slog. so whats your name buddy?" she asked.

"You probably don't recognize me, Lyth. I'm Marcia. Last time I saw you, during the slice-o-thon that resulted in the very ship-wide neural net you come here for, you were a 2-inch butterfly. That's why I carried you around in a glass jar. Now, get off the glass jar, and once you're ready to go to the next hub, I will carry you on my shoulder"

Marcia only needed to make it as far as the hub located at the command-and-control infrastructure of the squadrons of starfighters, which was directly behind the main, ventral hangar. As Lyth gets out of the glass jar, with Marcia hoisting said jar where the starfighter C&C computing infrastructure is, and where it is linked to the ship-wide neural net. The spokes were the vodium cables linking the individual devices that made up the starfighter C&C computing infrastructure. Next stop is probably going to be the targeting computers, all the way above them in the dorsal section of the ship. But Marcia was patient and she let Lyth do what she had to do. Meanwhile Charzon was simply watching the 10 squadrons of TIE Reavers go up to the first location Taneas instructed them to test out armor at half-starfighter-power. But this carrier will hopefully prove the former chief process office right in that converting the cargo ship into a carrier is not much of a deal.

"Moving into position" Julie reported back.

"Just don't put us in a collision course with the Libita"
