APPEARANCE: Nyr is a lean, youthful Umbaran with pale grey-blue skin, silver-white eyes and somewhat sharp features. His dark hair is worn tousled and wavy on top, with shorter tapered sides. His pale eyes can give him a slightly severe appearance at first glance, though his expressions tend to be far more open and attentive. He typically wears practical cream and brown Jedi robes, leather bracers with integrated data displays, and a utility belt carrying a small assortment of tools.

BIOGRAPHY:
Born into Clan Deyan on Umbara, Nyr was raised within a lower caste technical family responsible for maintaining machinery and infrastructure for the influential Clan Phorel. His connection to the Force was discovered at eight years old, following an unusual display of foresight noticed by his childhood friend, Pir Phorel.

Nyr subsequently departed Umbara for Jedi training and has spent the following seven years at Shiraya's Sanctuary. Now fifteen, he remains a Jedi Initiate, developing a strong affinity toward the Living Force alongside his interests in mechanics, lightsaber combat and a persistent habit of modifying equipment that was already functioning perfectly well.

HISTORY:

Nyr was born on Umbara to Clan Deyan, a lower caste family whose obligations to the influential Clan Phorel had passed through several generations. Though the Deyans possessed their own name and trades, much of their work remained tied to the machinery, vehicles and infrastructure of their patrons.

It was within these workshops that Nyr spent much of his early childhood. He became familiar with tools well before he properly understood the systems they were used on, first helping with simple tasks before gradually learning basic repairs and diagnostics for himself. He was curious, practical and rarely content to leave something alone once he knew it was not working properly.

Despite the divide between their families, Nyr also formed a close friendship with Pir Phorel. The two spent considerable time together when permitted, often playing games of strategy and prediction. Pir proved considerably more patient with planning several moves ahead, while Nyr generally preferred finding the quickest way to make something happen.

Nyr also showed an early dislike for the more subtle forms of control common within Umbaran society. An unpleasant childhood experience with mental influence left him particularly protective of his own thoughts, though at the time neither Nyr nor those around him understood how strongly that instinct would later shape his connection to the Force.

Spoiler: DISCOVERY

Nyr's Force Sensitivity was first noticed by Pir during one of their strategy games. What initially appeared to be good prediction became increasingly difficult to explain when Nyr began responding to moves before they were made, including choices Pir deliberately changed at the last possible moment.

After several attempts to determine whether Nyr was simply guessing, Pir raised the matter with his family. The possibility that a Force Sensitive child had emerged from within the Phorel household quickly attracted attention, and arrangements were made for Nyr to be tested by the Jedi.

The results confirmed what Pir had suspected.

Clan Phorel saw considerable value in the discovery. Nyr's departure became a formal occasion, presented as an example of the opportunity and guidance provided beneath their patronage. For the Deyans, however, it was the departure of their son from the only home he had known.

Nyr left Umbara at eight years old with little understanding of what becoming a Jedi would eventually mean. Among the few possessions he carried with him were an old hydrospanner from his father and a diagnostic probe belonging to his mother, both of which he continues to keep among his tools.

Spoiler: JEDI INITIATE

Life among the Jedi proved considerably different from Umbara. Nyr took well to the more practical aspects of his training, particularly physical exercises, lightsaber instruction and anything that allowed him to work directly with his surroundings. More contemplative lessons took longer to appreciate.

Over time, Nyr became particularly interested in the Living Force. Its emphasis on the present appealed to him after a childhood surrounded by social calculation, hidden intentions and concern for what might happen several steps ahead. Though he continued to display a natural aptitude for precognition, Nyr showed little desire to pursue it beyond what was immediately useful.

His earlier instinct to resist mental influence also developed alongside his Jedi training. Rather than extending his own mental aptitude outward, Nyr found it easier to draw inward and reinforce his own thoughts. This has left him notably capable of resisting mental pressure for someone of his age and experience, though deliberate projection and influence remain areas of weakness.

Nyr continued his interest in mechanics throughout his time at the Sanctuary, often spending his free hours around workshops, droids and damaged equipment. His own lightsaber has become a frequent subject of experimentation, with components regularly adjusted, replaced or rebuilt as new ideas occur to him. These modifications have not always improved its reliability.

Now fifteen, Nyr remains an Initiate without a Master. Though he continues to learn within the Sanctuary, he has become increasingly eager for the opportunity to become a Padawan, travel beyond the academy and put his training into practice.

Waiting, Nyr has decided, is considerably more difficult than doing.
