Special Features:

Maneuverability Rating: 3

Hyperdrive Class: Class 2

Strengths:
Pow, Right in the Kisser: The Talon has a heavy payload compared to a standard starfighter. This gives it some flexibility with regards to how it functions on the battlefield and what manner of targets it can engage.

Corellian Made: As a product of CEC craftsmanship, the Talon is an incredibly rugged starfighter. Glancing blows are considerably less likely to cause catastrophic damage to the fighter, necessitating a more direct hit to a vital system like the engines or power plant to bring the fighter down.

Weaknesses:
Going in Loud: The Talon's targeting sensors are 'loud' compared to other starfighters. While this does give the starfighter excellent battlefield vision, it also telegraphs the fighter's position on the battlefield. This means that the fighter cannot be utilized in stealthy operations without disabling the sensors, which renders the pilot virtually blind in space.

Who Needs Shields: As part of Corellian Engineer's efforts to keep the fighter's price down, a lighter option was selected for the deflector shield. While in theory offering sufficient protection from civilian threats, military-grade blasters will very quickly wear down the shields.

Description: The Eharl-class assault starfighter was designed by CEC to be hard hitting, and the design absolutely delivers. Boasting an incredibly powerful arsenal of weaponry, a small number of Eharls can tackle even capital ships. But this firepower comes at a cost; literally. At almost a half-million credits each, the Eharl is a very expensive starfighter. This large cost has kept the starfighter from seeing wide adoption by police forces or other private interest groups. Since the Protectorate has dissolved, the profitability of the fighter has been called into question.

Rather than simply scrap the Eharl-class, a new design was drafted. This would be another fighter for the open market, theoretically in the same vein as the Eharl-class. The ultimate aim though was to make a starfighter that would be significantly cheaper than the Eharl in order to appeal to a wider market. In order to keep costs down, this meant a scaling down of size, armament, and leaving out some of the specialty features of the Eharl-class; namely the use of the J9 command system and OmniPod weapon system.

Just because the fighter was designed to be cheaper does not mean that quality was lowered. All Corellian Engineering products are made with certain standards in mind, and this new starfighter would be no exception. The NTX-091 was envisioned as something of a beefier cousin to the likes of Incom's famous X-wing. Borrowing the aesthetic of the ancient SoroSuub experimental Preybird starfighter, the NTX-091 was given an intimidating attack profile. It's not all for show, however. Armed with a heavy armament package, the fighter is capable of functioning as a heavy starfighter in fights or as a light bomber.

Dubbed "Talon", the NTX-091 is Corellian Engineering's attempt to offer an affordable-yet-competitive starfighter to police and military forces around the galaxy.

These are heavy and count as 2 weapons each.

A fighter is allowed 6 weapon systems. This has a total of 10

Cal it a Gunship and its cool. IF you want to keep it as a Fighter it will need to have 2 weapons removed, minor production, an 10 posts development.

The Eharl-class, on which this is based, uses the same principle here. As the fighter is larger than standard fighters and thus comes in smaller squadron sizes, it gets additional weaponry to compensate. The total squadron power is kept the same, or less than, that of a standard squadron.

So this fighter, at 18 meters, has

  • 8 Guns
  • 2 Missile Launchers.
A standard fighter, at 12.5 meters, has
  • 4 Guns
  • 2 Missile Launchers
So a standard squadron, at 150 meters, has
  • 48 Guns
  • 24 Launchers
My fighter, in a squadron of 8 at 144 meters, has
  • 64 Guns
  • 16 Launchers
Trading out 8 Launchers for 16 Guns, which is established factory trading, you get the expected 48 Guns and 24 Launchers.

So the fighter, once size is taken into account, in fact matches the criteria for a standard starfighter. In addition, the fighter is slower than a standard fighter in reflection of its larger size and payout. So there is in fact an added cost to this measure beyond simply sticking the same total number of guns onto fewer, larger fighters. The fighter also has several noted weaknesses. In fact, if one accounts for the automatic strength given its payload-granted-by-size, it has one strength and two weaknesses. It also lacks any advanced systems, which are typically the mark of Elite Starfighters.

It's simply a standard fighter with some details changed up to keep it from being a carbon-copy of other fighters with the same factory restrictions.
