Nova has always been small. She is petite and not very tall with a thin but toned build. Her hair is kept long and typically worn loose or in ponytails. Her almond-shaped eyes are expressive and are typically accompanied by a playful smile or sarcastic smirk.
She typically has a tomboyish sense of style and prefers to wear practical clothing such as flannel shirts, jeans, and combat boots. She is not often seen wearing make-up and prefers to sport a more natural look. Nova does enjoy wearing high heels and dresses and has a fondness for leather clothing.

Nova began life as a soft-spoken preteen whose instincts were geared to flight, not fight. She was small and often as times frail and because of the circumstances of her birth, and upbringing, was timid, unsure of herself, and avoided confrontation wherever possible. Some of these traits have persisted throughout her teenage years but Nova Velez is not the same person she was when she was fifteen, or even seventeen. She has become stronger, both emotionally and physically.
These days she is more reckless, impulsive even. She wants to be more than a homeless, helpless teen. This leads her to be headstrong and rushing into a confrontation because without adversity she cannot grow as a person. She wants to be stronger, faster; someone that cannot be scared or taken advantage of ever again.

Nova is the firstborn child of Dimitri Velez and Louisa Beck, an assassin and addict. She was born on Nar Shaddaa shortly after her father had been arrested and sentenced to death on Ord Mantel. As such there is no birth certificate or medical records available.
