SETTING INFORMATION
  • Structure Name: Nova Defense Force Headquarters
  • Classification: Military Outpost, Starport, Waystation, Trade Station
  • Location: Seelos
  • Affiliation: Nova Defense Force
  • Accessibility:
Relatively speaking, the NDF Headquarters on Seelos are actually quite easy to reach.

Though located centrally within the outcroppings of a canyon wall, the NDF Headquarters are quite easy to find from space. The structures themselves make no attempt to hide save for their beige coloring to blend in with the surroundings. Most scanners will easily be able to find the Headquarters on the planet, and in fact the constant holo-net traffic to and from the buildings themselves make them quite easy to pin point.

However, aside from it's easy accessibility from space, the NDF Headquarters are nearly impossible to reach on foot or any traded or wheeled vehicles. The Building is located within deep rocky canyons covered in vast expanses of salt and other minerals. The hot sun beats down on the planet itself and traveling without a starcraft around this world can be incredibly difficult. It is suggested that all people traveling on Seelos use walkers, not repulsors as they tend to get jammed up with salt and dust.
  • Security:
First and foremost the Nova Defense Force Headquarters are a military installation, this means they are well defended and well built. The structure itself is composed of heavy rock and reinforced durasteel meaning it can take quite a pounding. Several large turbo-laser turrets are scattered throughout the canyons surrounding the building itself and of course dozens of both automated and manned laser cannons turrets dot the structure itself.

Though the NDF Headquarters are hardly a fortress compared to some Coreworld structures, it is apparent that the building could hold out against quite a siege. To add to this the structure comes equipped with a powerful shielding, allowing it to survive even orbital bombardment for a short time.

Along with these more standard security features the NDF Headquarters are also linked to a mass network of underground tunnels, allowing anyone within the building to escape...as long as they know the proper directions. Going into the maze of tunnels beneath the Headquarters are a certain death sentence without knowing where you're going.
  • Population:
The population of the NDF Headquarters is about as varying as could possibly be. The NDF does not turn people away and it most certainly doesn't discriminate against people. Everyone is welcome at the headquarters, though there is an upper limit to what the structure is actually able to house in the first place. At it's maximum the NDF HQ can only house about ten thousand people.

This number includes the NDF Troops, which at present only reach about twenty five hundred total.
  • Description:
The NDF Headquarters are not exactly pretty buildings. They were not designed with beauty in mind but rather functionality. Made up of a single central spire with a sprawling 'base'. This structure was clearly designed with strategic withdrawl in mind, hailing back to the fortresses of old.

The Outermost edges of the structure function as the starport, allowing for the import and export of goods and people. The zone beyond that is the market zone, then comes the residential zone, and then lastly the central spire or the 'keep' of the headquarters. This pattern has been carefully designed and laid out, allowing for strategic movements and retreats throughout the building if it is ever assaulted.

This more harsh mindset is present throughout the entire building. Tight curves and unexpected corners feed into those familiar with the structure rather than those who would attack it.

The NDF Headquarters is not pretty, but it is functional.

POINTS OF INTEREST
Central Spire:
The Central Spire is a bit of misnomer given that it is neither central nor truly a spire. This building is really located at the 'back' of the NDF headquarters, serving as a Keep and the most defensible location within the building itself. The Central Spire is where the Nova Defense Force is truly headquartered.

Within the Spire lay the Barracks for the NDF, the coordination offices, several armories, and everything else that is required to actually run the Private Military operated by NDF. The Building itself is reminiscent of Tatooine Architecture, built with thick duracrete walls and tight corridors to allow for the inhabitants to survive all but the harshest sieges.

The Central Spire is also connected to various underground tunnels beneath the canyon, allowing the NDF to escape if it ever becomes necessary.

Starport: The Starport is the outermost 'layer' of the NDF Headquarters.

Simplest in function and layout, the starport consists of various hangars and docking bays around the outside of the structure itself. Here various ships can dock, refuel, and even repair. Though there is an obvious upper limit to what ships can land here, it is more than capable of handling most moderate sized freighters and transports.

The Starport is also frequently patrolled by NDF forces and contains standard defenses such as auto-turrets and blast doors.

Market Zone: The Market zone is the second layer of the structure and the most busy. Here traders, merchants, and whoever else peddle their wares. Though not as busy as some other planets, the NDF headquarters on Seelos have become a small trade hub that operates efficiently and safely, allowing for people to operate in relative peace.

Though not huge, the market zone is generally the place to go for pretty much anything on Seelos and also contains several cantinas as well as permanent shops.

Residential Zone: As one might expect, the Residential Zone of the NDF Headquarters are where most of the civilians of the structure are housed.

Located directly next to the central Spire itself, the Residential zone consists of various apartments and small complexes that house both NDF family members and various people that have chosen to live in the little settlement. Though things are tightly packed within this zone, generally everyone has more than enough space. There are no slums and conditions are quite good compared to other similarly sized settlements.

DEFENSES
The Nova Defense Force Headquarters hold various defenses that would be standard at most military installations.

This includes Several Turbolaser Turrets, a single powerful shield generator that protects the entire facility from orbital bombardement, as well as several autoturrets placed throughout the facility. Along with this the structure also contains multiple blast doors and ray shield generators to trap attackers.

All in all, though the NDF Headquarters maintains several defenses, it is hardly a fortress compared to most installations in the core or run by government militaries.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The Nova Defense Force Headquarters on Seelos are not old or ancient.

The building is newly constructed and built with funds received by local system investors. When the Nova Defense Force was first founded Jorg Tierel negotiated several small contracts with local sectors, taking a small down payment from each of them in order to equip and properly outfit his forces. In exchange for these funds the NDF would provide protection for these sectors from pirates, raiders, and other small threats.

Part of this payment was enough funding to construct a headquarters.

Due to this money not exactly being unlimited, Jorg decided that he would construct his headquarters on a planet where real estate was...well literally free. Choosing Seelos due to it's location as well as the fact that literally nothing else was located there, the NDF brought in several small construction corporations to quickly build up their headquarters.

The structure was completed in record time to exact specification.

In the short time of its existence the NDF Headquarters as become a popular pit stop for many traders and merchants. It also obviously serves as a fantastic base of operations for the NDF
