Not sure if there's an example for me to go by...

In a time/place before the factory, one of my characters made a custom sledgehammer for someone by putting a sort of pressure-triggered repulosor on it. In retrospect, this wouldn't really do what I thought/you might think it would do. It's more likely that the blast would cause the hammer to fly violently out of your hands, and probably throw the joints in your arm at the same time.

Yeah, that was my issue when I was thinking of the Star Wars science of it... It'd be like having a bazooka without the counter-blast. (And the damn things can already dislocate your arms even with the second blast...)

The only version of it I ever saw that seemed "plausible" was the ones in Halo, but I dunno if there's that kind of gravity drive and counterweight in SW anywhere.
