Nonstandard Soldier Roles

Aloof Drovian Privateer and Scourge of Wookiees
Hi everybody.

What do you guys think are some good, though non-traditional and nonstandard, yet non-deviating sorts of roles and storylines that can be applied to soldier characters? What comes to mind, guys and girls?

Fajyk Vasrell Fajyk Vasrell it sounds to me like you're talking about the classic Special Forces / Special Operations roles, though I think you could arguably pick up a great many support roles that aren't really focused on much in canon (medics, combat engineers, vehicle crewmen, etc).

There's a huge variety even with Special Forces, but just as a quick canon reference, the Rebel Alliance split up its Special Forces into Pathfinders, Urban guerillas, wilderness fighters, infiltrators, heavy weapon specialists, and SpaceOps troopers.

Thank you, my friend. Hmm... What exactly were Pathfinders supposed to be all about? Also, my (evolved) Qom Jha is herself a former vehicle crewwoman (tank crew) who deserted not long into her career due to being passed over and harassed on multiple fronts by a corrupt officer. While I've considered both medic and and combat engineer, I'm afraid even my in-universe lore is woefully inadequate to do the engineering bit any justice.

If you don't mind my asking, what is the most nonstandard military character role you've ever played effectively, if you don't mind some reminiscing?

Fajyk Vasrell Fajyk Vasrell basically pathfinders are scouts/recon.

"Effective" I think is very much based in context and values. As a writer, I've enjoyed writing an infiltrator-like character- I'm not sure how combat effective she's been though from a competitive RP standpoint though, especially given the board meta for a lot of Force users.

I have two walker pilots (one who I abandoned) that I’ve played! I also have a naval gunner, more than a few fighter pilots, along with a biker scout!

In terms of RP, I’ve had mixed levels of success, it can be hard to find duels though sometimes, but I can usually make something work. With my gunner I usually just shoot at some fleeter’s ship and write from there! It’s all very point and shoot with her! :)

Well, Sir, you must know that even Force Sensitives can be of vary degrees of potential and power, or even be flat-out ineffective despite possessing a few "supernatural" abilities - it all depends on the writing, of course... Myself, I have two "neutral" Force Sensitive characters who have settled into a life of "honorable" thieving and privateering for the New Imperial Order and who only use the Force in a bind, as you might have read by now.

I was going to go with either scout, spy or medic, myself, for my new Devaronian... That's an oddly hard species to write for without making him the stereotypical "wandering mercenary/bountry hunter", like Villie was written... Also, regarding species, did I ever ask you what some of your favorite nonstandard species roles have been, hmm?

Embarrassingly, I've never written either a pilot in all my life of loving Star Wars, I must sadly confess - all my writing has been either Force User, thief or ground-based combat... Did you find writing a gunner, scout and pilot, respectively, to be a rewarding experience, hmm?
