OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: A good piece of hardware for when slicers won’t leave you alone
  • Canon Link: N/A
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Primary Source: Socketguard
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Upshot
  • Affiliation: Upshot
  • Market Status: Closed-Market
  • Model: Nightshade Slicer Feedback Countermeasure
  • Modularity: Number of units connected to a system
  • Production: Limited
  • Material: Electronic components, energy cells
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • An active countermeasure for networks
STRENGTHS
  • Feedback: When triggered by a counter slicer or operator the Nightshade directs harmful feedback at the hostile slicer. Those using separate devices will find their equipment fried in a shower of sparks, and droids or those who use cybernetics to plug into the network will find a very painful surprise that can leave them disabled for a period of time
WEAKNESSES
  • Physical: The countermeasure can be physically located and destroyed or its connection can be cut to the network, making it vulnerable to slicers working with an infiltrator.
  • Charge: The capacitor the Nightshade uses to create the feedback takes an hour to recharge, meaning if you manage to bait the operator into activating it too early the network will be vulnerable as it slowly restores charge.
DESCRIPTION

Nightshade is an advance in counter-slicer systems that use active measures to defeat network infiltration attempts. The Nightshade is a computer and capacitor device activated by a network security operator when an infiltrator is detected. The Nightshade will be directed to push an extreme amount of power through the compromised node, and if the hostile slicer is still connected they will most likely become part of a rather hazardous electrical circuit that may toast droids and biological slicers alike. If the slicer manages to disconnect before the shock hits them the capacitor will be depleted for some minutes before it has built up enough charge for another use.
