Not bad...for a monarch.

Were it not for the bureaucratic expectations of his office, the Lord Commander would not have set foot on Ilyria. That is, of course, not to say that he would not lead his Knights in defense of the planet - like any other. But rather, he had no reason to do so. For one, the planet was the pet project of the Exarch Malvern. He, in a twist of divine irony, created for himself a kingdom whilst serving a largely democratic nation. From what Rience knew of Adron Malvern, it was not a surprise that Ilyria came to exist under his rule. After all, the man had hailed from Serenno as a native.

But, ironies aside, Rience could not fathom a reason why he would have wanted to set foot on Ilyria in his own free time. That is, before tonight. Prior to the celebration of the new Malvern heir, the Lord Commander could have listed ten thousand worlds more deserving of his leisure hours. From resorts to military outposts to everything in-between. But, as his gaze settled upon the capital's skyline beneath a starlit sky - his mind began to change. Ilyria had been a shadow of the present glory prior to the Exarch's arrival. And since then, it had grown to be quite beautiful.

However, its most striking feature was the company who had agreed to "suffer" through the evening's festivities alongside him.

Their meeting was entirely accidental, but in that time Rience had literally chugged spritzers and literally danced the night away. He had laughed so hard tears filled his eyes. He had actual fun. For a man ruled by ambition and duty, these were a stark contrast to the norm. Dramatically so. He would always look upon Ilyria favorably for this fact. And, more importantly, he would never forget the time he spent with a dear friend this evening. As the Celebration began to wind down, the two had found themselves on the upper floor of the Grand Hall.

The Balcony was home to a consistent set of breezes which combated the now-stifling air of the ballroom below. For Rience, the time had come to loosen his tie - and he did so whilst leaning upon the railing. Smiling for what seemed to be the thousandth time that evening, he then raised his drink-filled hand. "To discovering we don't have two left feet." he said, before taking a swig of his beverage. Never in a million years did he think a white wine spritzer would become a drink of choice.

But then again, never in a million years did he think he'd meet someone like the Councilor.
