"Of course, Anya." M.A.R.I.S's robotic voice was heard once more before the elevator stopped and opened its doors. The Doctor chuckled, she had tried for a couple of years now to get the AI to stop calling her Doctor but to no avail, she had given the AI a strong personality, and that had its strengths and its flaws although Fevris wouldn't have it any other way.

"M.A.R.I.S, will you please call me Fevris?" Her velvety voice rung melodically within the elevator, and then she glanced at Anya as she already knew what the AI's answer would be. Then the doors opened, and before them was a holographic projection of a woman. Pretty, smart-looking and around her mid to late forties, offering the pair a soft smile. Much like its creator, it gave off a sense of collectedness but its expression was also a lot more welcoming and approachable than Fevris usually was.

"That would not be professional, Doctor." M.A.R.I.S's voiced now sounded a lot more real and present, even if it was still slightly droid-like. Her gaze settled on Anya once more. "It is not often that the Doctor brings guests, I am happy to have you here. Please, call me if you need any assistance or if there is anything I may be able to do for you." M.A.R.I.S rarely had the occasion to display the full luxuries and little tricks of the large apartment it was proud to inhabit, a guest gave her the perfect opportunity for it. Soon after her words, her holographic display disappeared but of course, she was still present in the apartment's systems and just a call away.

Fevris found herself smiling slightly as she watched Anya grab a book and make herself comfortable. The Doctor had thought that maybe she would have felt weird or shy about being in a new place, shyness was not something Fevris was very familiar with and would have found it a bit difficult to approach so this was a welcomed relief. "Xenobiology and engineering are my specialties. That right there, is one of my favorite books." She revealed, amused that out of the tons of books and datacrons to be found in the apartment Anya had picked that one in particular.

Of course, the thoughts of the red-haired woman were right. M.A.R.I.S was also programmed for surveillance and she kept track of everything that moved within Noxa Tower. However, in Anya's case, this was not only a security measure but one taken for care. M.A.R.I.S was, first and foremost, a medical AI and she had access to Anya's files and reports. The AI was already very aware of the woman's current situation. It would keep an eye on her while Fevris rested, ready to alert her creator if anything changed.

The Doctor raised her eyebrows at Anya's threat, chuckling and crossing her arms in front of her chest. "Alright, I will do that. Only because I'm really fond of that book." She jested back at her. "Make sure to get some sleep yourself though, rest will help that wound heal. If you are hungry or anything just ask M.A.R.I.S or feel free to explore around. My room is over there, if you need me." She gestured towards a door near the end of a hall. Right now they were in Noxis Tower's very last floor without counting the terrace in the roof. Stairways led down to the other two floors of the apartment, the lowest one being where Fevris' laboratory was located. She knew the only sector of the laboratory that contained sensitive information or dangerous materials would be sealed shut and off limits, so she wasn't worried about Anya going down there to explore the rest if she so wished. M.A.R.I.S would make sure everything else was in order.

With that said, Fevris yawned, now totally unable to even hide her tiredness behind that composed and serious facade she always seemed to have. "Goodnight, Anya." And with that she turned around and went into her room, big windows overlooking Avalonia. She changed into more comfortable clothes and finally reached her bed, falling almost instantly into a much needed sleep.

The fact that M.A.R.I.S wouldn’t call Fevris by her name was rather fascinating and she briefly wondered about that. Was it because of the way that the woman conducted herself or was the A.I slightly different in that regards? Not to mention that apparently Fevris didn’t seem to bring anyone home. She was in a sense, all work and no play and obviously didn’t have a social life to speak of. However, Anya couldn’t really talk, for she didn’t even know if she had a social life herself. The woman was rather intrigued that Xenobiology and engineering was the woman’s specialties and that Fevris had commented that Anya held her favourite book, while she made a follow up joke about the only reason she was going to bed, was because she was fond of said book.

A brow perked up at the thought and remained silent as if to make a point. Oh she wasn’t about to speak to give the woman a chance to respond and delay the inevitable call for sleep. Anya nodded her head goodnight and her pale blue eyes watched the other retreat to her bedroom. Quietly, she took note of the room, before a soft sigh parted her lips and her attention returned back to the book in her hands. The pain was there, but barely noticeable as a soft dull ache in her side and so, the thought of sleep didn’t even truly cross her mind. For some reason, she felt rejuvenated from what sleep she had gotten at the hospital and could go for quite some time; that long periods of time being awake seemed normal to her.

After a few hours had passed, she flipped yet another page as the woman frowned and she pressed a hand into the page to steady the book, while she leaned back into the sofa, so then she could pull her legs out from underneath her body and prop them up onto the table before her. ”Tell me M.A.R.I.S, how is she sleeping?” Quietly she waited for the A.I to respond as she leaned her head back to rest on the back of the sofa while her gaze was lifted towards the ceiling. Why she kept looking up to the ceiling, was beyond her. Perhaps instead of looking for the writing on the wall, she was looking for the writing on the ceiling. ”Is she always alone, M.A.R.I.S?” Would the A.I tell her? Everything about the place seemed to strike a chord within her and she closed the book in her lap then.

Anya had managed to catch glimpses of emotions, humor really and that was it. Was it all by design? To avoid getting close to anyone? Who looked after Fevris when she fell? Who cared when she felt alone? Quietly, she took her feet off the table, only to place the book itself upon its surface and stood. She then removed the jacket to place upon the sofa. A jacket, which lacked any signs of wrinkles, much like the rest of the clothing she wore. Such a regimen way of living and she glanced at the table for a moment. Was it… A holotable? ”Who takes care of the Doctor when she cannot take care of herself?” She muttered as she began to circle around the low set table for a moment.

Perhaps, she shouldn’t care as her instincts were telling her, but she couldn’t help it. There was something there and it was occupying her thoughts like a virus, a virus that was slowly worming its way around and getting into every darkened corner available. It was just illogical that she would even think about such a thing, yet here she was, wondering about who took care of the Doctor when she got home. If such worries were not something that she normally worried about, then what was normal for her?

Fevris was a light sleeper. Her mind had always refused to forget its waking responsibilities during slumber and allow for a deep sleep, but this was the norm to her and therefore the rest she got was the one she was used to. No dreams clouded her unconscious, but rather formulas, and sequences, and schedules, and deadlines. It was as though sleep was a moment for her mind to reboot and immediately begin searching and organizing her thoughts. And this was more accurate than one would originally assume. It had been part of the results of her interventions in her own self.

Utter darkness fell like a heavy blanket over her room in great contrast to the living room where as night finally set in, lights were turned on to allow the guest to continue with her reading. The walls suddenly changed, and went from being dark grey, bare tall walls to windows. A useful program, and quite a beautiful one. It allowed Fevris her privacy when she wanted it, or to look out at the terrace and the city when she felt like it. Thick clouds had covered the night sky and so the stars weren't visible, but the curtain of rain falling over Avalonia and its many lights was just as mesmerizing.

M.A.R.I.S listened attentively as Anya asked her questions. The emotional programming of the AI allowed her to understand the concern behind them, it had even felt such worries herself over the one that was her creator, boss and for all purposes, living partner. M.A.R.I.S had met other AIs while working with Fevris and she felt...gratefulness, towards the Doctor for making her as aware as she was. Before replying, she once more materialized her holoraphic form, only this time it was a small-scale version of it standing in the middle of the holo table and looking up at Anya.

"The Doctor is sleeping well. However, her mind has always been more restless than that of other humans." Her voice was calm and clear, it was the type of voice which even while recognizing it as foreign felt somewhat comforting. M.A.R.I.S monitored Fevris almost as much as she did Anya, and therefore was able to provide this information quite easily. The AI payed attention to detail, to the point of making sure the corresponding rooms where at a temperature that suited each of the women's body temperature to make them comfortable.

Then it was time for the next answer, and the AI seemed to contemplate for a moment before providing a reply. "Yes, she is." Without counting M.A.R.I.S itself, it had only been a handful of times that Fevris had brought someone back to her home and ninety-nine percent of such occasions had been related to work. The scientist never had social visits, or guests that stayed more than a few moments such as Anya. "I aid the Doctor in all that I can, otherwise she is a very independent woman." Not very open to receiving any help.

The night pressed on, and as the hours went by M.A.R.I.S made sure to tend to any of Anya's requests and showing her to the room she had prepared for her when she decided to retire to bed. Being aware of the current situation thanks to her access to the archives, M.A.R.I.S had also made sure to fit the room with more clothes both for the night and the next day. Much like the hospital, although a lot more luxurious, the room had its own bathroom and a walk in closet. The architect that had designed Noxis Tower had expected its CEO, a young woman, to lead a lively social life. Wrong, but at least now the tower had some guest rooms to spare.

Exactly eight hours after, at 4:30am in the morning, Fevris got up. She was a complete stranger to morning grogginess, as soon as she was up her mind was ready to go, and her body felt relaxed and well rested. After washing her face, she tied up her hair and changed into workout clothes, she left the room and headed towards the kitchen area, overlooking the living room. She would be surprised if Anya was up this early, but then again, stranger things could happen. She turned on the stimcaf machine, and got her hands on some fruit as she began preparing breakfast. Of course, given her choice of clothing, it was not difficult to predict that she intended to head down to the middle floor of the apartment complex were a training room awaited.

Anya had listened to the AI as she looked upon the holo projection on the table and she perked a brow for a moment in quiet thought. ”Independence can get you killed. I mean look at me, I almost died and I don’t have anyone. At least, not that I know of.” The woman frowned for a moment before she reached out to mime patting the AI on the head. ”Thanks M.A.R.I.S,” She said as she moved to pick up the book and head off to her room. For some reason, she felt a sense of protectiveness for the Doctor. It was weird, but for someone who seemed to be alone, dragging an amnesia patient home, just seemed somewhat out of character. Reckless behavior for someone who had served as a soldier before becoming a doctor.

In any case, for some reason, Anya felt a responsibility for the woman. Whether it was because Fevris had saved her life, she wasn’t sure, but for some reason, a spark of loyalty had begun to be written into her being. Someone had to save her from herself at some point. It might as well be someone with no memory, she thought to herself as she placed the book upon the bed and moved towards the bathroom. ”M.A.R.I.S, let me know when she wakes up, will you?” The woman requested as she moved to go shower. Every part of her was screaming to leave, to run. Yet she didn’t know why. Didn’t understand the aversion to not wanting to get too close to anyone, to avoid caring about another person. Yet, even as she ducked into the shower, she also felt like she owed the woman for saving her life.

Did that mean that in return, she couldn’t at least be protective of the woman who had saved her life? There may be a fine line between caring and being protective, she just didn’t know where that line was at the moment. She would probably learn eventually, but tonight just didn’t seem like it wasn’t about to be that night.

After she showered, she towel dried her hair and looked to find some kind of tie to pull it up and out of the way. For some reason, having long hair annoyed her and she was partly tempted to cut it short. However, she didn’t know why, but she left it for now and settled upon tying it up into a high ponytail before she finished getting dressed in whatever form fitting clothes that she could find. Her bare feet crossed over the floor in light steps towards the bed, while her hands picked the book up as she sat down upon it and continued reading. There, she remained until the early hours of the morning. Simply reading as she attempted to understand anything that the pages were trying to offer up to its reader.

It was at this point, that her head angled slightly to the left as she heard movement and the woman stretched, only to halt slightly when she felt a pull in her side. Upon placing the book down upon the bed, Anya moved to exit the room, only to pause in the door frame. Pale blue eyes shifted to find the time and noted that the other woman had gotten exactly eight hours worth of sleep. A hand rose to massage the bridge of her nose for a moment as she tried to push the information that she had just consumed, from her mind for a moment. ”You really don’t wear a lot of form fitting clothes, do you?” The woman asked as she dropped her hand and with light steps, crossed over towards the kitchen. ”Also, that stimcaf smells like heaven.”

As the hologram disappeared after being pat, soft chuckling could be heard formed in the AI's robotic voice. Fevris had done her best to make her as human as possible, humor was no beyond her programming and she had found the gesture endearing. "You are welcome, Anya." M.A.R.I.S's voice was calm and as friendly as it had been before, although the woman's words still resonated within the AI's processing core. Just as she was capable of humor, M.A.R.I.S was capable of care and she cared for the one who had created her. The AI also had the impression that Anya cared too, even if it was surprising that this seemed so given she had known the Doctor for only a short time.

"Of course," M.A.R.I.S voice was heard again coming from somewhere in the apartment, she would let Anya know when Fevris finally woke up again, and knowing the sleeping habits of the Doctor, the AI already had a very good idea of when that would be. As soon as she saw Anya heading towards the bathroom, she spoke again. "Remember to be careful with your wound." Of course, M.A.R.I.S would wake up Fevris or have a droid come in to help if it was needed, but for now she went silent and allowed the woman her privacy.

Some hours later, when the Doctor woke up and began to go about her morning routine, M.A.R.I.S did as requested and let Anya know. As the guest walked towards the living area and the kitchen, Fevris' deep blue eyes set on her and she offered a slight smile. It was unlike her, Fevris didn't hate people but she was certainly not one to express any form of interest in their company either, Anya appeared to be an exception. "Good morning," It was still dark outside, the sun hadn't even begun to show, but she didn't seem to mind that. "How are you feeling?" Of course, she wanted to know if there had been any changes in the way Anya was feeling, hopefully improvements.

Fevris chuckled at her comment, her hand waving softly at herself in her form-fitting gym clothes giving her a look as if she didn't understand what she was talking about. A small jest, of course, for she soon proceeded to explain about her fashion preference. "They used to be the only thing I wore when I was still a soldier. Now I prefer suits, or looser clothes excepting my training outfits." She said. There was one more exception to that rule though, and that was dresses. On the rare occasion when more formal attire was due, Fevris' dresses were very much form fitting. "I'll make sure to dig those clothes up for you if you like them better." They would certainly look good on her.

The Doctor had made sure to prepare enough coffee and fruit for both of them, to which she added some slices of bread that had been toasted. The room was filled with the distinct and divine smell of breakfast. Soon enough, she placed a mug in the counter in front of where Anya was standing before grabbing her own. "How did you enjoy reading about alien life forms and biology?" She asked, half expecting her to say it had been tedious but the mere fact that she had picked up that book still seemed to amuse Fevris. She had a feeling there was more to Anya than could be easily perceived, she was curious.

Then she placed the plate with the fruit, the toasts and some jam in the space between them so that they could share before turning to lean on the counter herself, coffee mug in hand and eyes placed on Anya. "I'll have to leave for the work today. You could come with me, if you'd like." She could also stay here if she so wished.

Quietly, she made her way over to the bench and she chuckled for a brief moment as Fevris waved a hand at herself. Pale blue eyes, took note of the woman’s form and took notice of the clothes that the other seemed to wear. Is she about to go work out? Anya questioned herself as she angled her head slightly and listened to the other woman explain as to why she didn’t wear such clothes anymore while she rested her hip against the counter. ”’Tis a shame,” The redhead said with soft words, for she could clearly see how well defined the woman’s body had become through her training. That was until she bit her bottom lip as she heard her stomach rumble with the scent of food wafting throughout the room. In fact, the last thing that she had eaten was the pasta at the hospital and even then that had been almost twenty four hours ago. How she hadn’t managed to feel hungry until now was beyond her.

Except, there was something else nagging at her mind as she smiled and nodded her thanks at the cup of coffee that was placed before her. Something about the form fitting-clothes and the comment that the other woman had made. Her right hand moved to pick the mug up and lift it to her lips while her thought dwelled upon the issue. Did Anya prefer form fitting-clothes because she herself was a soldier? She felt a bolt of pain lance through her skull and she dipped her head as she winced with the pain. It was almost as if it was something important, something that she could almost grab onto and pull into the light. However, before she could successfully grab onto it; the feeling seemed to have retreated. Whatever it was, she hoped everything would make sense in time. For time was the only apparent healer in this scenario.

Although such thoughts had made her almost miss that Fevris had begun talking again and she licked her lips. ”Well, I found the book on Xenobiology history to be rather fascinating. Of course, I doubt I fully understood everything that I read, but from what I could gather, it was fairly complex. Synthetic Biology. It differs from the standard DNA sequencing, because it explores the Xeno Nucleic Acid. Otherwise known as XNA. Plus, it tends to focus on an expanded genetic code and the incorporation of non-proteinogenic amino acids into proteins.” A frown descended upon her brow as she pondered the information for a moment, only to take a sip of the bitter liquid in her cup and nodded her head. ”I haven’t finished it, obviously, but I’m certain that I’ve got the time. It sure did keep me distracted from the lack of memory, so that’s a plus.”

She continued talking as she placed the mug down and began to put some jam on a piece of toast. A brow perked upwards as she bit into it and she licked her lips before she continued. ”I can see that you’re about to go do some exercise and while I would love to join you, I’m guessing that I’m going to be told not to. So while you train, I’ll clean up breakfast. As I would love to join you for work.” Anya said as she moved to straighten her form up from the counter top. The fact of the matter was, the woman didn’t have any memories and while she herself didn’t exactly know as to what she did and didn’t do, it seemed that learning new skills would help keep her mind off of that damning fact.

So when they finished breakfast; the redheaded woman simply cleaned up, so then they could start their day and Anya hoped that one day, her memories might just return.

A slight smile tugged at her lips at Anya's comment, a reply had been forming in her mind but it was stopped by Anya's rumbling stomach. At this she chuckled, neither had eaten in a long while now and she could also feel the trademark feeling of an empty stomach that demanded to be fed. Still, her mind lingered on the topic. Maybe it was a shame that she wouldn't be wearing the form fitting clothes, but if Anya took a liking to them then...maybe it wouldn't be such a shame after all. Still, she allowed the thought to remain silent within her own head as she pushed the plate with fruit and toast towards her a little bit more.

The Doctor noticed the winced, and the soft smile fell to be replaced by a slightly concerned expression. It seemed to fade soon enough and so her calmness returned, "A bit if a headache is common in these cases. It should never last too long though. If it ever does, let me know." It was easy enough, and the natural thing, to assume it was the doctor in her speaking. Yet for some reason, Fevris felt a bit more involved into her request to be allowed to assist than usual. Strange.

Anya's opinion of the book had Fevris raising her eyebrows, another pleased smile slowly tugging at the corners of her lips as though she was being given some awe-striking news. She was impressed. While she didn't doubt that Anya had a capable brain in her, after all Fevris had a way of recognizing dim witted people from a mile away, she hadn't expected her to grasp the specific subject of the book so easily. Something within her felt happy that the woman liked what she had read. Why? That she did not know. "That is correct. You might want to consider a career in the field, you know? Sounds like you have the mind for it." She said, offering her a smile before taking the final sip from her mug.

Once again, Anya was right. There was no way in the netherworld that Fevris would allow her to do any kind of effort before she was certain that the wound was sufficiently healed. "Smart thinking." She nodded her head, the small smirk giving away the fact she was amused by this. "Sounds like a plan. I'll be back soon," She helped place everything in order before heading towards the stairs. Before she reached them however, Fevris turned her head to look at Anya one last time.

She didn't know anything about her besides a name. And yet she felt strangely comfortable around her. The thought would go with her into the training room, remaining unanswered as her mind was filled with the work that would need to be done that day. Maybe it'd be less tedious, now that she'd have someone tagging along.
