A lone shuttle of Republic make and carrying Republic diplomatic transponder codes broke hyperspace over Mandalore. A state of war existed between the two factions, though as yet, no shots had been fired and no hostilities were begun.

The mission was simple today: diplomacy. The lone occupant of the shuttle keyed the commlink. He alone had come to minimize the risks involved. The Republic could replace one individual, but he would not risk more for something so dangerous. As the commlink flashed a solid connection to Mandalorian comms, the occupant nodded.

"Mand'alor Skirata," came the voice of Popo the Hutt, Supreme Chancellor of the Republic. "This is Popo. I wish to have audience with you."

The large Hutt was promptly and warily brought to MandalMotors hall. Gilamar was not a happy man. With his military establishments in ruins due to the attack of the Sith and the war with the Republic heavy on his mind he was short tempered and without drink, two things that were never good when it came to the old Mandalorian. But he had to play...Politician which meant he needed to not smile, but not curse out the fat slug either.

He hatted Hutts.

They were always business business business ...And it always ended with someone dead or worse. At least in his old line of work. Rising from the table that sat in the center of the room usually reserved for board meetings and clan meetings he waved the two escorts away leaving just Gilamar and Popo the Shell Hutt. "How can I help you, chancellor?"

"I'll get straight to the chase, Mand'alor Skirata," Popo stated bluntly and tiredly. "I want peace, or at least an armistice, between the Mandalorians and the Republic."

Popo folded his hands on the table before him. His arm still hurt from the fighting on Coruscant and his armor still bore the scars of that engagement. He'd have his armor restored when the fighting was done. Maybe.

"We've lost our capital and the Sith are probing further. I cannot afford a two front war right now and, honestly, I have no quarrel with the Mandalorians myself. I understand that what appeared to be Republic forces attacked Mandalorian space. I would like to discuss that incident, in detail, with no Senate, no regulations, and no political intrigue if possible. Just two heads of state figuring out what went wrong and how to fix it."

Swiping through a Datapad with his right index finger, the Mand'alor sighed. "I know it was not the Republic that attacked Aeten II." he said bluntly, swiping the video from his datapad to a holodisplay in the center of the room. The video showed the same Fel ships that had crossed into Mandalorian territory, this time firing their turbolaseres over Dromund Kaas. "A Sith organization calling themselves the 'New Order' recently launched an invasion on Dromund Kass. I myself was not there to participate and the results are still coming in."

Looking to the shell Hutt he grimaced. As much as he disliked the Republic currently he couldn't allow false accusations to fuel a false war that would leave his people in ruin. "We can't afford a two fronted war either, my condolences. I heard your Jedi fought valiantly." Turning away from the Hutt he looked outside the large panels of transparisteel and released a deep throated chuckle. "And here I thought the Mandalorians would be the ones to remove the Republic from its seat of power and help it reorganize. Looks like the Sith finally brought a competent leader to the table from you lot."

"You have your armistice, without question. But peace...? What do you have that would warrant peace? You already know what we've asked for."

"I don't know about competent. Determined, maybe," Popo said with a self depreciating laugh. "As for what I have to warrant peace, I'll answer a question with a question. What do the Mandalorians want for peace?"

(OOC: sorry, really busy at the moment. Short post is short.)

Folding his arms behind his back he frowned. The Sith truly were an enemy to be reckoned with. They made his blood boil, more in anger than anything else. In all truth and honesty the Republic was a larger threat to the Mandalorians than the Sith were currently. Inhaling, he spoke again. "Let's deal with the Sith." he said simply. "You have your armistice."

"An armistice, aye," Popo said slowly and carefully. "I was hoping for a peace treaty, however."

The Hutt leaned back in his spot and scratched thoughtfully at his cheek for a moment. He thought quietly, silently, before speaking.

"I can assure you that the Republic has no interest in fighting the Mandalorians. It would be far too costly in lives and materiel for both sides. In short, it would be a complete waste for both the Mandalorians and the Republic. 'What cost, Victory', if you will. I believe a peace treaty would do well to aid both sides. I'm currently restructuring the Republic from the inside out. Streamlining, cutting out the dead weight. Making clear lines of communication and setting up a government that will shine like a beacon to those that desire Democracy. I know the Mandalorians value freedom, above all things, and while not everyone can be a Mandalorian for one reason or another, I think I am safe in saying that most desire the freedom to decide their own fate and the fate of their government. The people should not fear their government, Mand'alor. The government must fear its people. Only in this way can fairness and impartiality be the guide for a new and revitalized Republic."

"An armistice is what you have for now Hutt. Don't look a gift Bantha in the mouth." Did he mention he hated Hutts? His prejudice slipped out for a moment in the harsh remark. But the armistice truly was a gift. The Sith that had been harassing Mandalorian borders were nothing but a shell of the former Sith that had occupied the same space. Nothing in comparison to the Sith that ravaged Republic territories. If The Mandalorians didn't loath the Sith more than they loathed the Republic, the could very well be facing a full scale war on two fronts. It wasn't that the Mandalorians were underestimating the New Order, they were tried and tested and they seemed little more than raiders waving glow sticks around.

"Apart from this armistice though...I do have a few names you could contact if you need aid in your war with the Sith. Don't take this as Mandalorian aide. Truthfully these are mercenaries who choose to or not to help you Popo."

"I need an alliance far more than I need a few mercenaries, Gilamar," the Hutt stated calmly. "I think that an alliance would be beneficial to both our causes and in the best interests of the Mandalorians as a whole."

Popo genuinely needed an alliance. An armistice simply meant the renewal of hostilities at a later date. The Hutt would do everything he needed to do, and some things he couldn't, to make an alliance work. That said, he had one last ace in the hole located in the leather bag in the small of his back. If he needed to use it, he would have to do so.
