NEW OPPORTUNITIES
Location: Corellia

With her hands clasped behind her back, Zoraya stood in her office on the top floor of the massive skyscraper and glanced across the city's skyline through the large window. So much had changed here in recent years. The seemingly endless war with the Maw was sweeping through all corners of the Galaxy, and with the Empire now turning its war machine against the Galactic Alliance as well, the demand for new technology to counter it was rising. Valkeri Enterprises had played into it and expanded a great deal with what it supplied to the Jedi.

But with a new campaign launched to push the Maw out of the Core, even more new opportunities were waiting on the horizon. This was ultimately the reason for her last meeting of the already long work day. Jedi Master Aaran Tafo Aaran Tafo had contacted the company with a request to meet and discuss the needs of the Jedi. So without any hesitation, she had slotted him into her busy schedule and eagerly awaited his arrival.

For Valkeri Enterprises to be successful, it was extremely important to communicate actively with the Jedi, after all.

"Ms. Dara? The Jedi Master will be arriving shortly," the assistant asked after entering her office.

"Thank you, Clara," Zoraya replied before she slowly turned around and walked over to her chair to sit down, "Please send him up when he's ready."

"Of course, security will be escorting him here in a moment."

"Perfect," she smiled faintly and sat back in her chair while Clara left to help make sure Aaran was guided to the right office. While she waited, Zoraya activated the holographic display through her cybernetic eyes and read through her latest messages.

There were so many.

Adapt or die.

It was a basic law of nature. Everyone was subject to it, regardless of who you were or what you could do. Species needed to adapt to a changing environment, individuals needed to adapt to changes in their life and organisations needed to adapt to a change in their landscape.

Even the great orders of the Jedi and Sith were not above this law. Various times in history, the Orders changed in form and function, oftentimes bringing themselves back from the brink in doing so.

Sometimes the Jedi tied themselves closely with governments, either working for the Senate or flat out ruling worlds as benevolent monarchs. Sometimes they were more detached, acting as wanderers, going where the Force willed and doing their work, then vanishing afterwards. Never staying in one place for too long.

And now in this age, the Jedi would have to adapt once again. With wars of an unprecedented scale wracking the Galaxy in his relatively short life. More avenues would need to be considered. Nothing dark, nothing unethical. But unconventional methods would always be needed when it came to dealing with a rapidly shifting battlefield, all while still somehow holding true to the original ideals of their order.

But those kinds of solutions could not come entirely from the Order itself. The Jedi had assumed they held the total sum of wisdom in the past, that had never ended well. So imagine his surprise when news of a company that seemingly held a great deal of appreciation for his order reached his ears. It was something that he viewed with a healthy amount of scepticism.

He had his reasons to distrust larger corporations. The purpose of a company was to sell a product or service to make money. Profit was the ultimate goal. Money being the root of all evil was one of the reasons why the Jedi was not the biggest fan of capitalism. Going to such lengths to accumulate something that ultimately held no value in of itself seemed so pointless to him.

Its why he preferred to focus on other things. Like bizzare esoterica that only a tiny portion of the population could interact with. It was far more sensible.

He was surprised when his request for a meeting went to the very top. He had expected to be talking to an executive, a PR specialist or if he was fortunate, an engineer who was at least enthusiastic about their work. Instead he got the CEO herself.

In one way, it was a blessing. He could get a proper measure of her through a face to face meeting. Get an idea of what her angle was and how to best manoeuvre it into something advantageous for the Jedi as a whole. Because he would not lie and say the Order could not use another ally, even if they were motivated by profit.

As the doors to the office slid open, he gave a quick nod towards his escort, basic courtesy offered to them as he made his way inside.

"Ms Dara. Thank you for seeing me."

Perceiving the world through the Force was always a curious experience. Many would assume that it was similar to normal sight but with a few extra filters. Like some kind of high tech visor or goggles. But the reality was far more complex than that. Because when Aaran looked at someone, he received a snapshot of their entire existence.

Everything they were, everything they could be. The Force knew all of this, and it was shown before him whenever he looked at someone.

Granted, the mortal mind is incapable of processing or comprehending that much information all at once. So instead he simply got a very good impression of an individual on a fundamental level. And now, with his full focus on her, he was rather curious as to what he'd find with Zoraya Dara

"Ms Dara. Thank you for seeing me."

"Master Tafo, it's an honor," she said as she stood up and leaned over the table to offer him a hand, only to remember that Jedi traditionally bowed in greeting or to show respect. She wasn't sure if that was still the case nowadays, but she offered a slightly sheepish smile nonetheless and fell back into her seat moments later. "Please, have a seat and make yourself comfortable. If you'd like anything to drink, I'll have it brought over as well."

Having been raised in this environment, Zoraya knew how to be proper, and typically always showed a level of confidence one would expect from someone in her position. But in the presence of a Jedi Master, it was clear that something more personal came up to the surface — her admiration of them.

When focusing on the news, it was easy to find those critical of the Jedi, to find their enemies, and the people who couldn't ever look past their mistakes. But many out there were also very fond of the Jedi, especially those who had their homeworlds attacked by the Maw.

The New Jedi Order was visibly the shield against the Maw, and now the sword to push them out of the core as well.

"It has been some time since we've had a Jedi visit, but you came at the right time. We've just green-lighted several new projects to improve old designs and make sure the Jedi are well-equipped for their new assignments. But we'd very much like to hear your wishes, concerns, and questions as well." Her tone was professional and calm, but sincere as well. She very much cared about the opinions and thoughts she'd likely receive today.

At the awkward offering of a hand to shake, the twitch of his own arm was visible, a reflexive action to offer his own hand in return for a shake halted partway through. The awkward ritual of a first meeting where boundaries were tested, where each individual tried to figure out the complicated dance of social interaction.

Jedi were not big on physical contact, but for most humanoid species, the handshake was to show that they were leaving their dominant hand somewhere it could be seen, an open statement that they did not have a weapon drawn and were offering to put themselves in a disadvantageous position if the other side did decide to attack.

He'd admit that he was a bit taken aback. His supernatural gaze revealed a fair bit to him. And despite his expectations, he could not really find anything too objectionable about this woman. There was some level of corporate dealing, a certain level of ruthlessness that one needed to simply survive as a large corporation. A determination to manage resources on such a large scale.

But no overwhelming greed. No lack of empathy for their fellow sentient. He was expecting someone who was looking to try and angle some exclusive contract with the Senate to provide equipment to the Jedi order. Instead he got someone who wanted to help because they believed it to be the right thing to do.

It was a refreshing sight to see from the corporate side of things.

He sat down on the offered chair and nodded his head once in response to the opening pitch. "I understand that designing equipment for Jedi comes with some.... difficulty compared to normal products."

Wasn't that an understatement. Typically any starfighter designed for use by Jedi required the kind of reflexes only seen in top of the line droids that cost astronomical sums. A ship so dangerous that one quite literally had to be superhuman in order to safely fly it in combat. Similar equipment would need to have the same mindset when it came to design.

Armour would have to be minimal and allow for the complete freedom of movement, designed to only take glancing blows and to facilitate a wearer who would be engaging in vigorous movement. Alternatively, those Jedi that did want to wear something heavy could afford something far bulkier than what could normally be considered safe.

"I would very much be interested in seeing some of those designs Miss Dara."

"But first, if you do not mind. I'd like to know how it was that your company came into this position of designing technology for the Order."
