New Nanotech Species Banned

In line with [member="Spencer Jacobs"] in the Factory, species created with nanotechnology will no longer be permitted in the Codex.

Already approved species retain their approval, though if reported they will be examined by staff in light of this new decision.

Since there has only been a couple of species ever submitted in this way, I doubt this will be of major impact.

If you have any questions, please ask.

But microscopic is so FUN.

In all seriousness, what would you classify as a nanotech, 'species?' I understand in the factory, because it has 'tech' but in the Codex does this simply mean microbial forms of life?

Species created with nanotechnology, not microscopic life. This means any species that is created in a lab with Nanotechnology (built/genetically/biologically manipulated through such) are not permitted.

What's the context/example that warranted this ban?

Specifically, it applies both to larger creatures which have nanotechnology as part of them, and also the actual nano machines themselves.

The reason for this is several-fold. It was decided to reserve this to the domain only of event figures such as Omni. It was also clear to us that it was a potentially very open to abuse, as well as being something not much in the spirit of the setting.

What about species or individual persons simply ALTERED by no-no-tech? Sorry, nano-tech. Would these species - that, through nano-tech have become something else - no longer be valid? Like someone turning a human into, say, a robot? As a rough example.

Considering Nanotechnology is a banned technology and species created by such technology are banned, I'm going to assume the answer to that is probably going to be the same.
