Private New Light Upon the Darkness || Knights Obsidian

The Knights gathered upon Naboo
Some knew what was about to happen. Others could only stare in anticipation at the flickering lights dotting the courtyard. Arx Obsidia had not seen a formal event like this before. It was the first gathering since the building's completion. The Knights stood in file, watching silently as the Lord Marshals, the Obsidian Council, took their places at the head of the assembly. The gathered were dressed in their finest, for tonight was a day of celebration, whether they knew it or not. All save for Voph, who was still clad in the same imposing armor he had been since that fateful day. Voph took his place at the center of the dais, raising his dominant hand to draw the crowds attention. He was draped in a simple black cloak, which fell about his arms to the middle of his shins.

After a hush had taken hold of the crowd, Voph spoke. "My brothers. My sisters. Knights of Obsidian, protectors of the Confederacy. I come before you today, not as a harbinger of ill tidings, but as a beacon of hope for all who call the Southern Systems home. Tonight, we gather not as scared rats, seeking salvation from the ashes. But as victors. We join in celebration of what is about to pass." Voph fell silent for a moment, bringing his other hand up to rest upon his chest, as his right hand extended out to the crowd. "And in the name of the Force, I call its protection and blessing upon all those who are here to witness this occasion. Squire Mataan. Step forward."

Voph's hand lowered to gesture to the step below him. The young squire had been with the Confederacy for precious little time, and yet she was already one of the more recognizable names. It was only a matter of time before this moment occurred. Voph waited and watched as the girl approached. His arm lowered until it disappeared by his side under the cloak that wrapped about him. In truth, Voph had never had to conduct a knighting before. In the old days, the War demanded too many resources to spend upon paltry ceremonies such as these. Most of the promotions that Voph conducted were battlefield promotions. He could only hope and pray that what he had selected would be sufficient to honor the duty that the young Squire had shouldered, and thank her for the sacrifice that she had made for their nation, and would doubtless continue to make...

The lights on the ceiling reminded her of those coming from dying stars. Faint and filled with stories, whispering in the dark corners of the galaxy, filling the emptiness of space with bright lights, serving as beacons of hope and beauty for those seeking their way home. She smiled gently for them, laying down her head and bringing about her gaze towards the others that were gathered in that room, running through their faces with her two violet orbs, analyzing their expressions with calmness swaggered over her own face. Ashelia couldn’t help but notice how elegantly dressed they all were, unlike her poor excuse for an attire, dusty and old fashioned, kept with her only for the sentimental value foolishly given by that silly hearth of hers. But in a way, she felt confident with her shining armor, for it showed her ancestry, something which she was very proud of.

But lately, Ashelia had started to enjoy being around the Knights, they grew in her thoughts. Their ways reminded her of those from her people, they were honorable and yet, knew how to keep the peace even if that meant using strength to maintain order. Yet, they were not cruel, not even close to that, and unbound to strict dogmatic views like those of the Jedi or Sith, for the Knights of Obsidian believed that all knowledge was welcome, nor light or darkness was separated apart and forbidden from its members, and yet they kept somewhat of a vision regarding what the humans called ‘The Force’ that was quite similar to that of the Aing-Tii. She met their monks while traveling in the Outer Rim territories, and it took a long time before they even dreamed of allowing her passage inside their borders, something very unusually permitted to outsiders like her.

We join in the celebration of what is about to pass."

Her eyes were locked on the actions taken by the Lord Commander Voph. Such rituals were quite the sight to behold, and despite her beliefs of its similarities with those of her people, Ashelia couldn’t help but wonder if the human ritual wasn’t actually copied from the elzeri many eons ago. ‘My father would most certainly say this was the case.’, the thought of Iedolas arguing to sustain his beliefs almost made her laugh. Her mind was brought back to the room as Voph’s voice grew louder in her large ears, bringing about her attention as the ear dampener glitched momentary, giving her a chilling goosebump running through her spine.

“And in the name of the Force, I call its protection and blessing upon all those who are here to witness this occasion. Squire Mataan. Step forward."

With keen eyes, Ashelia watched closely as the wonders of knighthood were revealed to her, only to remind her of days serving what others would call it 'Dark Jedi Order', and the pain their own version of 'knighthood' brought to her body and soul. Those memories made the smile on her lips faint away as nostalgia took in.

Much had happened in such a short time many of which was quite detrimental to the order and the CIS. But through it all the Obsidian Knights still came out, thrusting forwards and reforming. It was a testament to their resilience not just on a personal level but on a larger scale. Many other orders would either struggle to get back onto their feet from such events or splinter off into small groups, never to really unite once more, but hey had stayed unified.

Already they were refilling their ranks and reorganizing themselves to better serve the Confederate worlds and it was quite a honor to be here in the presence of a knighting ceremony. Her gaze eyeing up the squires who were to be indicted into their rank, Kurenai sharing one of her rare smiles towards the two. Though the order was in need of new blood achieving the rank of Knight was no easy feet and with it came responsibly and a necessary skill level. She could be confident in their skills and with Kyyrk Kyyrk recommending them for promotion.

Perhaps this ceremony could also be a chance to interact more with those in the order, it had been quite some time since Kurenai had been involved in such an event. Connecting with other Knights and even the many squires would certainly be a goal to accomplish today. It would be nice to once again train someone for the CIS and not independently.

The Nightmother stood in watch as the ceremony began. Given Taiia's ambitions it was appropriate that she have demonstrated her talents and earned public recognition for her growth. If her desires hadn't been so fervently focused on a particular philosophy, the Witch wouldn't have minded keeping her closer. Nothing kept the other woman from availing herself of the Solanaceae, of course; they didn't bar their doors to any student of the Force.
Her green eyes regarded the capable woman with as much warmth as her pallor and high contrast seemed to allow. It was uplifting to see others in attendance, of course; many would come, but choice faces were present to ensure the woman's deserved recognition. There should be such examples of elevation among their ranks to serve as a guide for others.
As the rite progressed, the Witch looked over at Yumi nearby. A capable woman, but not one that either of them had much direct interaction. A few brief interactions at group events, but little else. Solidor was also in attendance; another whom had only short interactions. Seemed to be too often the case. At times Vytal wondered if Witchcraft put so many off, as it was not her intent to keep others at arm's length by far. Something she hoped would chance with more training opportunities in the future as the Knights reasserted their standing in the Confederacy.
"A welcome opportunity to recognize our own," Vytal remarked unbidden, loud enough for those nearby to hear, but not such to disrupt the ceremony.

Again the Knights had been summoned, this time to Naboo for a more happy occasion if rumors were to be believed. The Knights Obsidian were to hold a knighting ceremony, at least their version of one. It made sense to her to do this now, talk of rebuilding the order after the calamity and the discussion on what to do with the eye had come and gone this was simply a continuation of that process.

Considering how their numbers had suffered and knowing it would be the first time they had, to her knowledge since she had come to the Confederacy that the Knights had come together to celebrate the promotion of one of their peers. It evoked in her what seemed a distant memory now of her own Knighting ceremony with the Jedi, she had felt a sense of pride, accomplishment at joining the Jedi Knights. That of course was long before she had left the order of course. A small smile crept onto her lips as she let her memory wander to older days and older friends.
Remaining she silently watched as the masters gathered as well as the other Knights and her fellow squires, the obsidian council would take their seats as well and her eyes took in the scene, it was a cool evening and she stood among her new family wondering in truth who would be promoted. She pondered the question honestly even as the Lord Commander spoke, there were many among their number that had proved themselves in the calamity and beyond, many in her mind had earned that right. Unbeknownst to her, it was not to be their night but rather when she heard the Lord Commander call her forward she was a bit taken aback, as realization hit her at once that indeed this night was for her.
The sudden surprise had only stunned her for a moment but as always she adapted quickly stepping quietly from the ranks of the other squires, not looking to anyone at that moment, she fixed her gaze ahead at Voph and began the short walk toward Kyyrk Kyyrk . It felt as though minutes passed but it was not so. As she came to stand before coming to stand before him, she bowed her head lightly and spoke quietly.
"Lord Commander, I am honored." as she spoke she cast her eyes to the Nightmother Vytal Noctura Vytal Noctura for a moment, feeling her own eyes upon her. She gave a small nod and smile before she looked back to the Lord Commander, she was truly humbled.

Voph regarded Taiia quietly for a moment as she approached, his stoic exterior betraying nothing. A breath was drawn, and robed figures began to approach from the temple entrance, taking positions near the torches that provided illumination in the courtyard. Voph finally turned his head to look over Taiia's own, and continue to address the crowd. "It is the mistaken belief of many that we are gathered for a Knighting ceremony. To see Squire Mataan promoted to a rank deserved of one with her skills. And it is with a small modicum of sorrow that I have made the decision this is not to be the case." As Voph said this, the pair of torches closest to the temple entrance were extinguished by the hooded figures.

"Today, we do not witness the ascension of yet another Knight, with words of promise and instruction to continue reaching for higher goals." Another pair of torches extinguished. Soon the Courtyard would be plunged into darkness. "For her actions upon Atrisia, and her skill at traversing the world beyond, I would have considered Mataan a being who had passed the Trial of Reckoning. But then the Cataclysm tore our order to the ground. And in its wake, Squire Mataan's conduct has been deemed unworthy of the position of Knight."

Another pair of torches extinguished. Only one pair remained. "Though I was not present upon Vylmira, I have heard the reports from Master Rylan of the conduct Squire Mataan held. Of her actions in the wake of destruction. And it is with a small modicum of sorrow I say that Squire Mataan shall not be named a Knight of Obsidian today."

With these words, the final pair of torches extinguished, plunging the courtyard into darkness. Voph's voice continued to echo through the gathered. "For what Knight could have accomplished what she has? What Knight would lead the charge into the very depths of hell itself, unafraid of what tomorrow holds? What Knight would sacrifice herself for the betterment of those around her?" Voph paused, letting his words dissipate into the darkness. Voph held his dominant hand aloft, a small sphere of light manifesting within his palm. "Though we may be surrounded by darkness, even the smallest light can push back against it. A light that each of you possesses. Some, as an afterthought. Some, as your greatest ally and weapon. Look well upon Squire Mataan, you children of the Lotus. For in her, you shall find a beacon of light sufficient to repel any darkness."

The light shifted and became formless, as Voph stretched out his hand placed it upon Taiia's forehead. The light, at his command, trickled down from her head to engulf her in a soft yet radiant light. "Squire Mataan. For your actions in service to the Knights Obsidian, we recognize you as Squire no longer. Nor are you a Knight. These, you have grown beyond. You who embody the light of the Lotus, be an example to all those who would come after." Voph removed his hand from the girl's forehead and the torches were lit once more. As the light faded from around Taiia, he spoke once more.

"The Obsidian Council recognizes Taiia Mataan as a Lord of Obsidian. May she lead you well. Go forth, and embody the light. As you have done, so shall you continue to do."
