OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Media Name: Neural Storm: Secrets from the Nagai
  • Format: Book
  • Distribution: Scattered
  • Length: Short
  • Description: This book is intended to give an overview of Neural Storm, its history, what it is, how to perform it, its uses, its hazards and also its side effects, and what makes it tricky to perform. It also contains a bibliography of sources containing medical knowledge pertaining to the neurology of specific races.
SOCIAL INFORMATION
  • Author: Griet van Vliet
  • Publisher: Self
  • Reception: It mostly flew under the radar if one was not a Nagai: among the Nagai, it seemed to be well-received, since it finally gave more exposure to an obscure power that could be used to incapacitate people without killing. Some of the more orthodox Jedi seemed to like the book for this reason.
CONTENT INFORMATION
  • Chapter 1: An Historical Overview: The preface presents "The Telepath", a Nagai Force-user that focused on mentalistic uses of the Force, and also the main reasons why Neural Storm was, in fact, an obscure Force-power that promised a neutral, non-lethal way to incapacitate a person. The main reasons pertain to the difficulty of performing it successfully.
  • Chapter 2: The psychic energy approach: This chapter is devoted to the approach based on psychic energy. "The aim is to infuse psychic energy into a specific area of a person's brain if the aim is to incapacitate someone while maintaining its consciousness, or to the entire brain if the aim is to cause it to momentarily lose consciousness"
  • Chapter 3: The electricity-based approach: This chapter is devoted to the approach based on electricity. "Because many species' nervous systems operate at low voltages and low currents, it can potentially be less expensive in Force-energy than the psychic energy approach, but it comes with a few serious drawbacks: it is easier to cause side effects such as brain damage if any excess voltage is used, and it also requires more knowledge of neurology to use on a wider array of species"
  • Chapter 4: The side effects: This chapter is devoted to the risks people incur when hit by Neural Storms. "Regardless of the approach, the consequences of Neural Storm can be significant and this is one of the main reasons why Neural Storm remained an obscure power. However, beyond extreme but momentary disorientation, little is currently known about the side effects, and especially the long-term side effects"
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
As Griet collected any information she could lay her hands on regarding the power, even visiting a Nagai library for information on the topic, she feels the need to pass on her findings to the greater galaxy at large, fearing that the knowledge would be lost if she doesn't take action to have the knowledge disseminated. However, given the book's intended audience, it was decided that a limited circulation was acceptable because the content was deemed highly specialized and there just weren't that many Force-users to go around using Neural Storm. Even then, she decided to add some bibliography lists about the neurology of various species, including but not limited to, Nagai and a host of humanoid species, with humans/Near-Humans being in there as well.

OK, so. Points of clarification:

"...the risks people incur if they are being fired Neural Storm at, on a regular basis." Can you rewrite this for clarity?

Also, can you tell me why you tie seizures to Neural Storm? The Wookiepedia page indicates it's just 'extreme but momentary disorientation.' That's a far cry from seizures and increased risk of future seizures. What source material are you drawing from? Can you show any seizure-inducing Force abilities in canon?

[member="Cradossk"] It also stated that "extreme but momentary disorientation" was caused by overloading the victim's neural network.

Now, I understand there just isn't a whole lot of canon information related to Neural Storm other than it being alignment-agnostic, and a non-lethal means to cause extreme but momentary disorientation. So I removed any mentions of seizures.
