THE NETWORK
Intelligence, State Security, and Direct Operations

The Network

The Network is the intelligence and internal security apparatus of the Diarchy. It exists to identify threats, prevent internal collapse, and protect the continuity of the state.

The Diarchy does not assume peace is stable by default. It is maintained through awareness, preparation, and intervention. The Network exists to provide that awareness and, when required, act decisively.

When the Network succeeds, nothing happens. When it fails, people tend to go missing.

Role Within the Diarchy

The Network operates across Diarchal space and beyond it. Its mandate includes:

  • Internal intelligence and counterintelligence

  • Detection of subversion, corruption, and organized dissent

  • Monitoring hostile factions and rival states

  • Disruption of terrorist cells and criminal syndicates

  • Covert action and deniable operations

  • Strategic information support for the DAF, Fleet, and Brotherhood
The Network answers directly to the Diarchs. It is intentionally insulated from public politics and planetary governance. Its responsibility is stability no matter the cost.

Methods and Oversight
The Network employs a wide range of tools, including:

  • Informant networks

  • Surveillance and data analysis

  • Undercover infiltration

  • Psychological operations

  • Sabotage, extraction, and targeted elimination
The Diarchy does not deny the Network’s methods. However, its authority is not unlimited. Failures are investigated internally, excesses are treated as security risks, and effectiveness is judged by outcomes. (Have fun! Tell whatever story you want.)

Internal Divisions
The Network is divided into specialized branches, each focused on a different aspect of intelligence and security.

Informatores Regni
Internal intelligence and counter-subversion.
They monitor unrest, corruption, criminal infiltration, and potential rebellion within Diarchal space.

Exploratores
External intelligence gathering.
They operate beyond Diarchal borders, embedded within foreign governments, trade networks, academic institutions, and rival factions.

Silentiarii
Covert operations and deniable action.
They conduct sabotage, assassinations, extractions, and high-risk interventions.

Custodes Codicum
Cryptography, communications security, and electronic warfare.
They protect Diarchal data infrastructure and compromise enemy systems.

Architecti Mentis
Psychological operations and influence.
They conduct narrative shaping, counter-propaganda, and targeted destabilization of hostile groups. Force-sensitive assets may assist when appropriate, often in coordination with the Brotherhood.

Relationship to Other Branches
  • With the Diarchy Armed Forces:
The Network identifies targets, maps, loyalties, and prepares operational environments before military deployment.

  • With the Fleet:
It tracks hostile movements, uncovers hidden shipyards, and monitors hyperspace routes.

  • With the Brotherhood:
Cooperation occurs when Force-related threats, interrogation, or threat analysis is required.

  • With the Diarchal Assembly:
Political disagreement is tolerated. Coordinated subversion is done at only the behest of the Diarchs.(Or if you can get away with it)

Playing in the Network
Network characters are not required to be villains or heroes.

They can be:

  • Analysts preventing wars through information

  • Field agents dismantling criminal networks

  • Operatives struggling with the moral cost of their work

  • Internal watchdogs rooting out corruption

  • Strategists shaping outcomes without open conflict

  • Enemy or rebel agents infiltrating the Diarchy’s most trusted branch
Some believe deeply in the Diarchy.
Others want to learn its darkest secrets.

Anything you can think of, belongs here.

Final Note
If you have specific intent or really really want something kind of obvious to go un-noticed. Talk to your fellow writers. It can be hard to pull off secrets when everyone can read your posts, know your character's thoughts, and see your excited comments OOC. Work with each other to find the right moment to pull the curtain back.

We are in one big shared space. It all flows together in some way or another. Weave your web and change the galaxy from the shadows.
