ADVANCED SYSTEMS
Speed Boost System
TAT System

Strengths:

 • Heavy Armament: Even for a gunship the Netcaster-class carries a varied and powerful armament, ranging from rotary blaster cannons, laser cannon turrets, automatic mass-drivers, and anti-vehicle and anti-infantry missiles.

 • Attack Coverage : With a pair of EKR-30r Coilguns mounted on the rear loading door, and two pairs of laser cannons mounted on turrets in the nose to the left and right, the Netcaster-class is able to fire just short of a full circle around it, in addition to being able to fire on ground positions.

 • Temporary Speed Boost : In order to bring the gunship to the battlefield in a timely manner, the engines are augmented with a short-use afterburner system. For a period of 15 seconds the gunship’s speed will be increased by 20% with the afterburner active, slowing back to normal speed once the period ends. In order to prevent engine failure, the afterburner cannot be activated again for approximately 1 hour, nor can it be activated while the weapons are active.

 • Ray Shielding : To protect the ship from ground fire it’s fitted with ray shielding to better soak up incoming laser and blaster fire, making up for its low speed and mobility with the capability to protect itself from such attacks.

 • Limited Troop Movement Capabilities : While not designed as a troop carrier the Netcaster-class has room on-board for up to 10 passengers, making it a potential option in a pinch for moving small amounts of troops around the battlefield.
Weaknesses:

 • Power Requirements: The Netcaster-class carries a serious array of weaponry, all of which aside from the missiles are connected to the ship’s primary power generator. To account for this during combat the operators must power their weapons off while in transport to a battlefield. Once in a combat situation power must be diverted from elsewhere to activate its significant armament, the optimal sacrificial choice being its speed. This leaves it vulnerable in one area depending on combat or travel speed, trading off offensive capabilities for movement or movement for use of its primary weaponry.

 • Starfighters : Despite being extremely effective against ground units, and possessing armor and a deflector shield generator capable of protecting it from most ground fire, the gunship is highly vulnerable to enemy starfighters as their larger weapons and missile/torpedo capabilities can easily wear down the shield or, in the case of missiles, punch right through it.

 • Big Target : With a low combat speed and sub-optimal maneuvering capability the Netcaster-class makes itself a very large target on the battlefield, making it highly susceptible to visual targeting on top of electronic methods.

 • Exposed Power System : The ship’s primary power generator is located on the dorsal side, just above the fuselage and between the engines, in full view of ground and aerial forces. While the shield provides ample protection, if overloaded by laser fire or rendered useless by physical projectiles, the generator is highly vulnerable to attack. A strike here would cause critical damage to the ship.

 • No Hyperdrive : The Netcaster-class lacks a hyperdrive, meaning that it’s limited in range to a local ground base for planetary actions or, for transport through the galaxy, space in a carrier or another ship’s hangar.
DESCRIPTION

Designed to fill a heavy aerial assault role for atmospheric operations, the Netcaster-class gunship is a heavily armed and well-armored option to provide close air support for ground troops. Its weaponry exemplifies this, boasting three nose-mounted dual laser cannon turrets, a rear door-mounted pair of automatic coilguns, and twin wing-mounted rotary blaster cannons. In addition to this it carries a formidable amount of anti-infantry missiles and, in a special equipment, the EGM-7 anti-vehicle missile. Altogether these add up to a dangerous arsenal for infantry and vehicles.

As for the ship itself, it’s interior design is very much a practical one, utilizing most of its interior space for the crew positions, which cuts down on how many troops it can carry. Not a dedicated dropship, the Netcaster-class can carry a maximum of sixteen people: The six crew-people and ten troopers or passengers, with no space for much else in the fuselage other than half a week’s worth of rations.

Entry is granted through the rear door which lifts upward approximately 2.2 meters, allowing most galactic species entry and therefore use. Mounted on this door is a pair of EKR-30r automatic coilguns, used to cover the rear of the ship from fighter response, which are fired in an alternating pattern to make up for each weapon’s otherwise slow rate of fire. Here a single gunner operates the weapons on a turret, using transparisteel viewports as well as electronic targeting systems. Behind the door is the way down to the cockpit, lined with five seats on each side for passengers. A small panel in the center of the floor retracts when triggered by the pilot to release the ship’s five on-board E-SM mechanic droids, which are used to make in-combat repairs to the ship both inside and outside, and due to their small size they’re able to exit the vehicle through small specialized vents and ports located to the left and right of the cockpit as well as the ceiling.

The cockpit is quite large, needing the room for five members of the six-man crew. Low into the cockpit are three small pods from which the three twin ELX.1 laser cannons are operated by gunners on turrets. From here a large circle of coverage is granted, allowing the gunners a 100 degree field of fire and enabling overlap between at least two guns at any given time. Just above the gunners sits the co-pilot, who manages the ship’s critical systems and missile targeting, while the pilot operates the gunship itself and targets the twin rotary blaster cannons on the wings.

To keep the weapons platform operable in combat situations the Netcaster-class comes equipped with a primary shield generator, projecting a ray shield to protect from ground fire. As a backup, alusteel plates make up most of its physical armor, though projectile weaponry such as missiles and slugthrower rounds are still a threat.

The dorsal power generator supplies energy to each of the ship’s systems, from the engines to the weapons. However there is a drawback in that the significant amount of weaponry requires a large amount of power to be routed in order to utilize all of them. This requires diverting power from other systems, typically by sacrificing speed, as maintaining a high speed and activating the weapons proves extremely taxing on the generator and risks overload and failure.
