Nerys II-type Harmonic Disruptor Array

OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To modernize the Nerys-type disruptor into a precision shield destabilization beam that can counteract advanced shield systems like Xythan, molecular, and adaptive composites. Designed for use by Commonwealth capital ships and support platforms.
  • Canon Link: N/A
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Primary Source: Nerys-type Plasma Disruptor Beam
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Primo Victorian Enterprises
  • Affiliation: Imperial Commonwealth of Dosuun
  • Market Status: Closed-Market
  • Model: CWD-MWPNA-X1 “Nerys II Disruptor Array”
  • Modularity: Yes (Optional residual tagging module, optional extended-range harmonic sync)
  • Production: Minor
  • Material: Boreas Crystal, Synthek Coil Arrays, Durasteel Casings, Quantum Phase Filters, Ionization Mesh, Radiation Baffling Layer
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Disruptor (Directed Energy / Harmonic Phase Weapon)
  • Size: Very Large
  • Weight: Very Heavy
  • Ammunition Type: Reactor-fed power cells
  • Ammunition Capacity: Effectively Unlimited (based on ship power supply)
  • Effective Range: Long Range
  • Rate of Fire: Low (Single, sustained discharge with cooldown cycle)
  • Damage Output: Average (to physical structures), High (to shields)
  • Recoil: None
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Harmonic Injection System: Destabilizes shield harmonics, reducing coherence and reflection efficiency
  • Modulation Cascade Core: Shifts beam phase rapidly to exploit adaptive shield weaknesses
  • Disruptor-Tuned Carrier Wave: Disrupts electronic systems in proximity to shield contact point
  • Space-Time Drag Effect: Briefly creates localized gravitic instability to exaggerate shield misalignments
  • Residual Plasma Tagging Module (optional): Ionizes impacted shields to prevent full regeneration
  • Boreas/Synthek Coil Exchange: Enhances cohesion and beam stability under duress
STRENGTHS
  • Shield Fracturer: Specifically designed to undermine modern shield tech (Xythan, molecular, hybrid adaptive)
  • Follow-up Weapon Enabler: Weakens or temporarily collapses shielding for kinetic or plasma weapons to follow
  • Long-Range Precision Tool: Excellent at disabling specific shield sectors (command towers, weapon clusters, etc.)
WEAKNESSES
  • No Armor Penetration: Cannot meaningfully damage unshielded hulls
  • Energy Hungry: Can overload smaller ship cores or limit firing duration
  • Limited Arc of Fire: Requires stabilized mounting; turreted options have reduced performance
  • Obvious Signature: Beam harmonics are highly visible on sensors; no stealth usage
DESCRIPTION
The Nerys II Directed Harmonic Disruptor Array is not a weapon of brute force—it is a weapon of redefinition. Where the original Nerys relied on plasma and disruptor fusion to burn through shields, the Nerys II instead attacks the very rules that modern shields follow.

By injecting controlled harmonic destabilization into a target's shielding, the Nerys II forces even the most advanced systems—Xythan, molecular, adaptive—to misalign, stutter, or collapse. It operates not by exceeding a shield's limits, but by unbalancing its architecture, opening sudden and devastating opportunities for Commonwealth mass drivers, plasma torpedoes, or Javelin strikes.

Initially designed as a modernization of a nearly forgotten weapon, the Nerys II has instead become a cornerstone of Commonwealth doctrine. When paired with kinetic artillery or Ikaros-class warheads, its effects are surgical and lethal. Captains describe it not as a weapon, but as a “lance to the brainstem”—fired not to kill, but to ensure the kill comes next.

Though it offers no value against unshielded targets, and can draw power away from other systems, its use in the Commonwealth Navy has already made it infamous. As one fleet tactician wrote in the updated Nerys Protocol Manual:

“Shields were never meant to dance to our tune. So we built the Nerys, and forced them to stumble instead.”
