GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Planet Name: Nero

  • Demonym: Neronian

  • Region: Unknown Region

  • System Name: Helios

  • System Features:

    Sun: Helios

  • Moons: 5 (Originally 6)

    Tessera

  • Pente

  • Efta

  • Okto

  • Eksi

  • Deka (No longer a moon, instead a small orbiting asteroid field)

[*]
Each Moon is fairly uniform, dead moons covered in ice and solid rock, however they are uniformly unique in that they are ultra-dense. Because of this and due to the destruction of Deka, the planet Nero has taken the shape of an egg as opposed to a sphere.

[*]
Nebulae:

  • Escargot Nebula

A large spiral shaped nebula made up of many gasses and elements found free floating just outside the edge of the system. Spiral in nature, if one were to enter the nebula, there is a small planetary body at its center though nothing is known about it - it remains yet unexplored.

[*]
Trident Nebula

  • An aggressive nebula, locked in orbit around Helios, the star at the center of the system, the stability of this nebula is almost always in question. Between Nero and Helios, it is feared that were its various elements and gasses to ignite, Nero may face dangerous exposure to radiation and may have an effect on its moons. Were any more of the moons to be destroyed, Nero awaits an uncertain fate.

[*]
Atlantea Fields (Asteroid Field)

  • Perhaps a final remnant of the planet’s occupants, Atlantea Fields is the small asteroid field orbiting the planet of Nero. At one time it was known as Deka, the planet’s sixth moon but now its remains are scattered in orbit. Any vessels entering the atmosphere of Nero would do well to take it slowly, because the asteroids are made of ultra-dense material, damage sustained from running into them would be at least doubly as severe as a regular asteroid.

[*]
Coordinates: [3, 18] Located at the edge of the galaxy, this planet is well off of any major hyperspace lanes. http://i.imgur.com/FBplRfA.png

GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION

  • Gravity: 180% Standard

  • Climate: Historically Mediterranean, Currently Sub-Mediterranean (Temperatures hover around the same across much of the planet though is often cooler in temperature than Earth. While it is much colder near the N and S poles, due to the constant motion of the water, ice does not form on Nero’s surface but does in the upper cloud layer.)

  • Primary Terrain: Aquatic/Mediterranean. (Historically Nero is reminiscent of the landscape around the Mediterranean Sea to include the cliffs of the Greek Peninsula and the beaches of Sardes. Now however the planet’s entire surface is covered in water, deeper in some places than others, but even in the shallowest locations the ground is worn smooth as a pebble up to a few feet below the surface of the water.)

  • Major Locations:

    Nautila | Img | Img Source | Sparth .

A large underwater research facility, or at least it used to be before everything on Nero died. Not much is known about the Neronians, but this research facility may shed light on who they were, or at very least, what they were researching beneath the deep oceans of Nero.

  • Coral Graveyard | Img | Img Source | Oriane Emery

The Coral Graveyard spans only the deepest places of the ocean surface of Nero. Once alight with life both plant and animal now they form twisted hulks of bone and ruin. Coral reefs once filled with vibrant colors now lies dormant, dark hues and lack of sunlight have robbed the coral and its arches of any life though many mysteries remain hidden here, rumors of an underwater colony of an alien culture lie beneath the coral, sometimes even strange devices could be found floating atop the surface near these reefs, their origins unknown. Also near these reefs are crystalline structures, their suitability for lightsaber use is rated as high - beyond that they shimmer in the slightest of direct light. No doubt they would fetch a hefty price on the market, if you could survive the intense underwater pressure to retrieve them.

Lorr | Img | Img Source | Raphael Lacoste

  • Lorr, a city once rivaling that of present day New Advora, now lies beneath the surface of the ocean. Once a thriving city containing libraries, markets, spires and arches, now it rests silently beneath the ocean. Surprisingly, despite the constant typhoon sized waves across the water, Lorr has remained quite in tact, an homage to the architects who designed the city and its buildings. Much knowledge was stored here, annals of the past, research papers, historical records - but what yet remains is unknown or if any records remain at all.

  • Affiliation: N/A

  • Wealth: Desolate

  • Stability: Historically Medium | Current, N/A

  • Freedom & Oppression: Historically, Nero was governed by a Monarch, male or female. Though ruled by a monarch, it was historically in the best interest of the monarch to consider his/her citizens wellbeing. Currently, there is no political structure on this planet due to the lack of inhabitants.
MILITARY & TECHNOLOGY

  • Military: Historically: Limited Military Forces, Basic Blaster armed militias. Current: None

  • Technology: Historically: Advanced Underwater Technology, Limited Space travel. Current: None

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

In the depths of space, some regions go near completely untraveled. Whether due to unstable hyperspace lanes, uncharted anomalies, or even lack of a hyperspace lane at all, many planets in these areas are left out quite literally in the cold. Other planets are simply inhospitable to life - through war, overpopulation, pollution, or a variety of other circumstances which cause a planet to become uninhabitable.Nero falls into another category.

Nero is the fifth planet from the Sun, Helios which is classfied as an A Type Star. With an impressive temperature around 9001K, it is theorized that there were originally more planets which orbited Helios but due to the expansion of the star, they have either been absorbed or burned away. The planet Nero has a rotational period of 26 standard hours and experiences no real "seasons".

Nero was discovered over five hundred years ago. As the galaxy still reeled from the conflicts involving the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance, many people left the core worlds in search of safer shores - one such place was Nero. A bastion of life and well off the beaten path of any known hyperlanes, Nero was the perfect location to start a new world - a new life. Sea life flourished, and while the gravity was significantly stronger than most worlds, it also meant that the natural life on the planet was more resilient, or so it was thought.

The new city flourished - a bustling trade city by the ocean its fish market was by far something of wonder. Coupled with the elegant yet functional construction of it, it very well could have been something far greater than it became. In its prime, it was a center of wealth and knowledge, known only to those who sought for it. Locally it was a wonder, across the greater galaxy, a secret held close to one’s breast in hopes of keeping it forever.

That might have remained the case, however nature had a different idea. Once surrounded by six moons of near equal size, Nero has changed much since the days of Lorr and the research facility deep in the ocean known as “Nautila”. In a catastrophic event, an asteroid cut its way across the system, eventually slamming into the moon of Deka and shattering it the the core. While the fragments burned up in the atmosphere of Nero, the effects of the destruction of Deka were almost immediate.

Carefully balanced between its six moons, the world was spinning in a stable manner, each moon pulling on the planet just enough to keep it rotating without offsetting the careful balance of life within its atmosphere. As the planet began an uneven and tumultuous rotation the seas roared, the ocean rose - that careful balance of life had become upset. The balance upturned, plant life began to suffer as the relatively calm waters began to storm. It took only a handful of months before almost all sustenance came from the sea, clouds forming in the uppermost region of Nero’s atmosphere. As the clouds rose higher they began to freeze - frozen clouds blocking out the sunlight and only allowing it to filter through weakly. With the sunlight diminished, even the oceans began to suffer. Aquatic plant life died off even faster than that on land, the fish soon to follow - at least those who couldn’t survive without the upper levels of the ocean to sustain them.

Meanwhile - life in the deepest parts of the ocean went unmolested. Accustomed to the darkest reaches, they merely adapted. Hunting less easy prey made them masters of stealth, eventually even turning on their own species for sustenance - those that remain are the strongest.

Nero, a captive to its moons, experienced not only mere changes within its atmosphere but across the planet as a whole. Once spherical in nature, Nero has been warped by the irregular orbit of its ultra-dense moons, shaping the world into more of an egg shape. With the increase of tension on the planet’s atmosphere, storms began to ravage what land had been above sea level, oceans swelling and rising to swallow it up. Waves the size of mountains formed as a result of the gravitational change, typhoons crashing against anything and everything they could. In short time the ocean claimed the world - without food, without light, all was lost - broken up as the waves crushed in against themselves.

At first, the waves were unpredictable, storms appearing and disappearing on a whim. As Nero began to find its balance once more, the giant waves began to form a pattern as they swelled and rose into the sky. Every standard 1.25 hours another tidal wave will hit if one were to stand in place. From one side of the planet to the other, a constant state of fluctuation. Due to the increased gravity of the planet and the density of the water, anything left on the surface of the planet when a wave comes crashing down is likely to be obliterated. Also important to note are the unique clouds which form in Nero's upper atmosphere. Due in part to the density of the planet's atmosphere and gravitational condition, clouds of solid ice have formed, blankets of frozen cloud obscuring the view from above. Though they are vast, the sheets of ice in no way prevent access to the surface, though it would be an important feature to note for pilots should they wish to navigate safely.
