OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

 • Intent: To sub a virtual assistant for production and sale by Locke and Key Mechanics

 • Canon Link: N/A

 • Primary Source: N/a
PRODUCTION INFORMATION

 • Manufacturer: Locke and Key Mechanics

 • Affiliation: Open-Market (Any character can use this),

 • Model: Navi

 • Modularity: Programming can be updated

 • Production: Mass Produced

 • Material: Electronics, Gabonna Memory Crystal
SPECIAL FEATURES
 • Able to sync with the holonet and local communications systems.
 • Biometric sensors in the base of the device allow it to identify who’s wrist it’s attached to.
 • FIngerpring sensor on the screen of the device to allow authorizations
 • Able to search the holonet and filter the results on command
 • Can transmit vice comms through local communications networks, using them to access the holonet.
Strengths:

 • Provides a secure hub for electronics and to provide commands to anything from toys to a ship or central computer in a house.

 • Multiple security measures including fingerprints, biometrics and vocal recognition.

 • Provides a holonet interface that can search for information for you.and link to local holonet and comms networks to let you relay messages.

 • Can filter incoming messages and calls according to a smart filter, or custom filters set up by yourself.

 • Can monitor your basic vitals.

 • Can load additional programming
Weaknesses:

 • The Navi is a hub of wireless activity, making it easy for sensors to pick them up.

 • My life on a computer: Although the links to your devices are secure, is someone were to break into the Navi (either by faking your biometrics or slicing the device) they would have access to much of your life.

 • The Navi has no communications or combat ability by itself. It is simply a device which allows a centralised control of your other devices and can learn and adjust to your prefernces.
DESCRIPTION

For many years access to the holonet was provided through the same clunky interface.

(x)

Search terms and communications requests had to be input into the system by hand, and while some advances did exist, such as holographic interfaces and AI the majority of the galaxy was still using the same interface. However, in a galaxy where people were carrying an increasing variety of electronic tools on their person, where technology is not just rebounding from the dark ages but diving into the unknown Locke and Key thought that it was time for a new paradigm.

(x)

It was out of this desire for change that they developed the Navi, a microcomputer capable of providing a new interface for both access to the holonet and management of your tools and vehicles. The Navi builds upon the quantum key distribution pioneered in the LK Hermes to create a secure, nearly unbreakable link, to any electronic device you own. This pairing needs to be set and authorised by both devices to secure the link. Once this link is provided the Navi will provide a command interface for the device. For example, pairing the Navi with comms device allows messages to be sent without touching the comms link, in addition, the Navi can act as a user interface to conduct searches through both the holonet and local communications networks. By accessing local networks it can search for local desitnations or information about the city, providing you with a route t wherever you want to go as well as filling you in about the location. Although not a droid the Navi is capable of learning and being programmed by its user as well as reading biometric data. In this way, it can adapt to your quirks and habits, informing you of nearby caf shops if needed, or asking if you’d like to make a reservation at your favourite restaurant when it’s getting closer to dinner time. The Navi can also be used to monitor your health, keeping track of your vitals for your own edification, or to contact emergency services if needed.

The Navi really comes into its own when paired with multiple electronics as well as an AR capable visual device such as the Theia Glasses, or the Cyber-Eye Contacts. The Navi can then ask if you want to make a reservation, remind you when it’s time to leave, have your speeder ready with a route loaded into the speeder or your Augmented reality interface to guide you there. The Navi can remember your preferences for travel or room conditions, interfacing with environmental and gravitational controls aboard a ship to make sure everything is dialled in just how you like it. In combat the Navi can link into your weapons and personal shields, informing you when your ammo is getting low or your shields are about to drop. While most power armour comes with an onboard user interface, the Navi can provide an additional benefit, linking to it to help personalize the armour, allowing it to respond to your gestures without you thinking about it. A clenched fist could be a sign to extend the blades in your armour or prepare a missile for launch. Additional programming can be added to the Navi to increase its efficiency in areas at the user's request, these can provide tactical or business support the basic Navi does not provide. (OOC: Similiar to apps, anyone can make one or come to me with an idea. If you are going to make an app for the Navi I would ask that you please just give me a heads up)

The Navi comes equipped with a microphone and biometric sensors, allowing security and safety while still allowing for voice commands to be provided. The Navi can be built into cybernetic implants or disguised as jewellery, but as standard is a small discrete black band with a small screen which contains a fingerprint sensor and a small holographic generator built into it. The back of the screen contains a biometric sensor that can be used to recognise the user and track their vitals. The band is secured with a magnetic coupling letting it rest securely on your hand until you choose to disengage it. When built into cybernetics the Navi allows for a customized command and control of your other implants through a centralised interface.
