Naval Modernization Program: Plan Zerek

Given the extensive changes to the factory with both the 5.0 version and updates to the Hanger limits, not to mention the recent events IC'ly, I think it's about time we got around to updating the Navy.

To be clear, we're not in a bad spot. The general impression of First Order fleeting on the board is, well, phenomenal, and that's a credit to those you doing the writing on a regular basis. But in spite of that I figure it can't hurt to update things. For one thing, almost every ship can feature a larger hanger than before, something which can easily be done via ship modification if nothing else.

I'm going to do a run-down of everything in the assets list, what I'd like to see from ye other fleeters is feedback ,and let me know if I missed anything. Also while we're at it, now is a chance to make all our templates and such uniform, if such a thing is desired. I'm not here to stifle anybodies creativity obviously.

Also someone should probably update said Assets list.

Battlecruisers:
  • Darr Itah - Either resub and make it larger and more capable across the board, or Ship Mod to increase Hanger count +1.
  • Resurgent II - Ship Mod to dramatically increase hanger count.
  • Warspite II - Recommend phasing out and subbing a variant of an Allegiance-class to fill the role.
Destroyers:
  • Supremacy - Goddamn that is a fine looking ship. No updates needed.
  • Executrix - Retire, no replacement needed.
  • Imperial-X - Resub, update to 5.0, including dramatically increasing Hanger size.
  • Assimilator - Resub, update to 5.0, at a glance it can probably get buffs across the board.
  • Vanquisher - Looks pretty good tbh, and I'm not sure it will benefit from an update.
Carriers:
  • Hellstrom - Resub, update to 5.0 and increase Hanger count as appropriate or sub a replacement.
  • Taskmaster - Ship Mod to increase Hanger as appropriate.
  • Voyager - I don't see a clear role for this ship. Retire without replacement?
  • Vindicator - Still practically top of its class for Squadrons/meters.
Cruisers: (Cruisers are in a weird spot. Right now we have multiple classes that cover the same basic role. I'm gonna deal with them a bit later.
  • Victory X -
  • Inflictor -
  • Intrepid - Good sub, neat concept, has seen almost no use. Retire.
  • Stormcloud -
  • Sondheimer -
  • Marauder -
  • Empire -
Frigates:
  • 849A - Ship mod to one full squadron.
  • Boneshatter - Possibly resub entirely as a limited 5.0 assault frigate.
  • Ecklund - Conceptually a neat ship that has seen little use, because it has little asset in a dedicated fleeting thread. Recommend updating or subbing a replacement and moving it under 'Assault' ships.
  • Seculus - Retire. Same problem as with the Intrepid, it's a great looking sub with a neat concept but has seen no use.
  • Raptor II - Limited Assault Frigate. Could be replaced with a Boneshatter II?
  • Locust - Torpedo Frigate. Should get a replacement if we retire it.
  • Halberd - Basically good as-is.
  • Dagger II - Excellent escort frigate. Absolutely needs a replacement should we retire it.
Corvettes:
  • Fortan II - Heavy/Assault Corvette, needs a replacement if retired.
  • Corsair - Desperately needs a resub
  • Bolt II - A workhorse, absolutely needs a replacement if retired.
  • Shadow - I'd say resub but it's got stealth detection stuff at MP.
  • FIPV-9 - Update to 5.0 I guess.
  • Raider IV - Retire.
  • Mukhtiar - Update to 5.0 (or replace).
  • Charger - Update to 5.0 (or replace).
  • Furious - Retire.
  • Nightgaunt - No changes needed, doesn't gain anything under 5.0.

The Predator and Valkyrie gain nothing under 5.0 so they're fine. The Accuser can probably replace the Warspite, as mentioned. It's the right size and same pic even.

Do we want to include starfighters on this list or not? As for the list, looks pretty solid so good job! Also as for cruisers, what type of stuff have we not covered with them at the moment? I could write up something if needed, though I probably won't re-write people's posts and that type of stuff.

The Cruiser Problem:

Cruisers are a fairly wide range of ships, and the current crop we have lack clear roles. Ideally speaking, each class should fill some sort defined position in a fleet. Of the top of my head, here are the obvious ones. I think we actually have these covered, it just seems like an awkward list for some reason.

  • Heavy Cruiser: Pocket SD. An all rounder of sorts, like the canon Victory's. VDX fits OK but needs to updated/resubbed.
  • Light Cruiser: A quick escort-style vessel that can grapple with frigates and act as a tougher screen ship. An Arquitens variant would fit here. The current Light Cruiser we have is more a larger Assault Frigate in role, which is good but not what I'm looking for in a 'Light Cruiser.'
  • Medium Cruiser: The Marauder fills this role quite admirably, I think.
  • Torpedo/Artillery Ship: The Predator fits here. As does the Mandator-X, which should possibly be renamed...
  • Interdiction Cruiser: Pretty obvious. Also probably best fit as a Command and Control and defensive vessel (loaded with defense guns and Bastion).
  • Assault Cruiser: Very tough and well armed and slow.

Starfighters would be great, I would love to see some uniformity in design there, but it's a way bigger headache.

I feel starfighters fill a variety of roles, but yeah it's would be really hard to do. As for cruisers, do we have any specialized ones? Like anti-fighter, dreadnaught, etc?

Eh, i think a good Assault Cruiser can do both, even with a focus on defense. But no we don't have a dedicated Cruiser sized ship for that, though the Supremacy is a Destroyer-sized variant of that concept.
