Intent: To create a personal weapon for [member="Nate the Bounty Hunter"]

Development Thread: N/A

Manufacturer: Rusty's Custom Firearms and Cutlery

Model: N/A

Affiliation: [member="Nate the Bounty Hunter"]

Modularity: Rail system (shown covered above) allows for interchangeable optics and accessories

Production: Unique

Material: Durasteel, plastoid, carbon fiber, rail gun components

Classification: Rail Gun

Size: Handheld

Length: 61 cm

Weight: 3.1 Kg

Ammunition Type: 7mm copper coated durasteel-cored lead projectile, disintegrating aluminum sabot depleted uranium rounds

Ammunition Capacity: 20 round detachable box magazine with integrated 20 shot power cell

Effective Range: 600 meters point target, 900 meters area

Rate of Fire: Semi, 3 round burst

Special Features: Relatively stealthy compared to comparable slugthrower or blaster, extremely versatile. This bullpup variant is significantly more compact than the original, while still retaining its range and stopping power.

Strengths:
  • Rail gun architecture lacks the muzzle blast of traditional firearms, and lacks the bright glowing bolt of a blaster. As a result, the weapon is fairly stealthy when compared to its contemporaries.
  • Versatile and balanced. Effective at range and at close quarters, and features excellent penetration power, especially when the DU rounds are used.
  • The bullpup configuration reduces the overall length of the weapon to the point that it's smaller than some carbines.
Weaknesses:
  • Relatively small magazine, due to the need to fit the power cell in with the projectiles.
  • Bullpup weapons tend to take some getting used to, as the layout is vastly different from a traditional rifle.
Description: When [member="Nate the Bounty Hunter"] commissioned a custom weapon, he specifically asked that it used the same ammunition as his ER-1. Rusty figured the best solution would be to take a standard ER-1 and configure it as a bullpup. The design allows the weapon to use a full length barrel, but significantly reduces the length, to the point that it's about the size of an average carbine. Despite the reduced length, it still features identical range and stopping power.

The primary drawback of the bullpup design is its inherent awkwardness. Mastery requires a completely different set of muscle memory, especially on reloads, since the magazine well is located towards the rear of the weapon. There's no shortcut here to figuring it out. The only way to get good is to train, unless the customer wishes to find himself fumbling reloads in the heat of battle.
