Nar Shaddaa Nights

Léon

The King's Buccaneer
Léon had heard tales of Nar Shaddaa, and it was a world he had never experienced before. Great neon lights burst to life, threatening to blind the Keshiri who had never experienced such a nightlife. Erotic workers called out to him, and their peddlers kept trying to shove flimsiplast advertisements in his hands. He couldn't read the Galactic Basic it was written in, but he made sure to thank them.

With an odd twelve different brochures for brothels, spice dens, casinos and cantinas clutched in his two hands, he wandered the streets alone and confused. The bustle of the Undercity was both captivating and terrifying. The Keshiri were numberless, as their language had no word for a number so high, but they were spread thinly across the continents. Here on Nar Shaddaa, it was a maze of duracrete and the streets were packed to the brim. He felt like he was drowning in the crowd.

Raising a silvered goblet to his lips and drowning his tongue in the sudden wash of amber liquid, Yun silently celebrated yet another successful mission. He was well over twenty days into being a Smuggler and had amassed a small fortune of credits, most of which were spent in repairing and upgrading the various failing systems aboard the Phaethon. With what was left over, the former soldier had spent his days living the high life - while roaming from Cantina to Cantina looking for work.

Feeling like today was his lucky day, the Atrisian had found himself at one of the many dive bar's sequestered within the heart of the rebuilt Undercity. There had been some rumours about how popular this place had become in the recent days. A nesting grounds of sorts for those interested in dabbling in... Illegal affairs. So, with a bottle of Crème D'Infame placed before him - Yun sat, listened, and drank the night away.

Or. That's what he wished to do. Instead, the former Grenadier turned his gaze towards the bustling hive of activity outside the establishment and spotted the most curious of creatures submerged in the ever flowing press of bodies. A purple man, clutching a plethora of fliers detailing the 'excellent' products served in the various enterprises in this district. He seemed lost, afraid and excited all at once. In those seemingly tremulous eyes, Yun saw a fragment of himself displayed in that purple man's face.

Before he had become the Smuggler, the Atrisian had worn such a look, one filled with the dizzying mixture of emotions.

Downing the last of the amber liquid and finishing the bottle thereafter, Yun roused himself from the table and tossed a few Credits onto the table. He couldn't explain why he had gotten up from his seat, but the man felt like he was spurned forth by the feeling of adventure. Or perhaps he was merely drunk enough to do something stupid. It didn't matter now. He was already kissing the scum-baked deck with his leather combat boots, and pushing his way through the crowd.

With gloved hands, Yun deftly navigated through the press of flesh and sweat. Dodging those he could, and sweeping the plain, unassuming scabbard holding his subtly curved vibrosword. Out of all the people that had come to Nar Shaddaa, the Smuggler believed he was the only idiot to bring a sword to a world of thieves and murderers. They all had blasters; they had nothing to fear - yet to those that his sheath could not dodge - they turned to him with a mixture of confusion and angst building behind their eyes.

"Purple man!" He called out into the undulating swarm.

"No!" Yun bellowed as a man drabbed in Violet turned towards the sound of his voice. "Not you," Karkin' Moron, the Smuggler whispered beneath his breath. "You! Purple man with the fliers! I wanna talk!"

Voices everywhere. The translator had been going crazy as it attempted to translate everything nearby, and so he had switched it off shortly after arriving. He stopped in the crowd when a flier fell from his grasp. In an attempt to chase the fluttering flimsiplast, he dropped the others. He breathed out a sigh of disappointment. He didn't realize what the letters said, but some of the images interested him. Then a Quarren bowled him out of the way, shouting a string of curses in Galactic Basic

Steadying himself, Léon forced himself back into the crowd surging forward, or at least the direction in which he was orientating himself. Nar Shaddaa was confused, back home the streets were much more obvious, here, the streets were as wide as the largest plazas in Kesh, and unlike Kesh, it was completely filled with masses of aliens. He bumped into someone with a purple shirt who had stopped in the street, "Sarrey," he said, trying to apologize in Basic. His head followed where the man was looking and met the gaze of another man, whom began shouting at him. He reached to his collar and activated the translator, it burped out Basic as Léon spoke Keshiri, "What?"

As the Smuggler waded through the surging tides of sweat and flesh, he began to question his motives. Before he had decided to take a stroll through the streets of the Undercity, the man was perfectly content sitting in the dingy little bar with an expensive bottle of booze adorning his table. Now? He had left it all behind because he saw someone that had reminded Yun of himself. What better purpose did one need to chase someone down in the middle of a crowded street? Chiding himself at the notion, He blamed his impaired judgment on the opened carafe of Crème D'Infame. It'd be easier if that were all he could blame it on. However, Yun knew that the amber liquid did nothing more than reveal what was already beating within. Alcohol had a way of making a Man get in touch with his more feral, animalistic roots - something in the Era of Science-Fact - that had all but seemingly vanished. Sweeping such thoughts aside, the Atrisian renewed his focus on the man he was after, doing what he could to keep his mind free of such distractions. He was on the move now, what would've happened no longer mattered.

Resting his non-dominant hand atop the featureless pommel of his sheathed blade, Yun pushed past the last sentient obstacle that sought to deny him of this meeting. Although, as he slipped through the couple staring off into the distance, the dulled scabbard had slapped the man's thigh as he tried to pass the pair unhindered. Turning to Apologize, Yun had found that the Selonian Duo were swept up into the crowd, and dragged beyond his field of view. He would've lingered on, hoping to find them and rectify his mistake but alas, they were gone and thus would forever shame in his darkest moments. No, that was going to far. That was the Wine talking. He didn't care. They were in the way of his sword, and they should've moved!

Coming to stand before the Man with violet-hewn skin, Yun allowed a massive grin peel across his lips - showcasing the pearlescent chips set in his olive tinged gums.

"I see you're new here to Nar Shaddaa."

Sweeping his sword-arm outwards, narrowly missing another Sentient as they ducked underneath his Showman's gesture.

"For a nominal fee, I can show you the world, protect you from its many horrors, and introduce you to something that you've never seen before!"
