Nar Shaddaa Nights (Vanguard/Jackals)

[Random House Cantina]
[Nar Shaddaa]

Church felt good, he'd joined up with a new outfit recently and they took damn good care of their guys and gals. He'd only gone through some supplementary training so far and wasn't assigned to a squad yet, but they'd helped him get out of his father's musty old armor and into something that was respectable in this era. He felt good. He felt so good, he'd come down from the Vanguard ship in orbit and decided to spend some money, have some fun, maybe meet some folk for some sport.

Through the night, Church had been to several bars, cantinas and a casino. He'd spent a good portion of his cash on getting himself lubricated, so he had enough courage to approach someone and flirt. Flirting had never been his strong suit, he was good looking, with a strong jaw and large build that came from being a farm boy from a backwater planet. Only when the alcohol was flowing, was he able to rub away the bumpkin aura that he seemed to give off. This time he was chatting up a gorgeous Twi'lek, he was smiling, she was smiling, the bartender who had used his credit chit to set up a tab was giggling.

"So, yeah. Vanguard treats us good. They treat us so good, I figured I'd come on down and see if I could treat someone as good." Or, that's what his mind translated, what he actually said was more slurry and less understandable. The Twi'lek was well into her cups too, and she was obviously able to translate his slur into speech as she seemed very interested in being treated good. That was where the night turned bad. Another guy, likely with as much alcohol in his system as Church, stepped in, slurring his own speech.

"C'mon, girly. I like your..." He made a general motion around his head, then pointed to hers. "You know. Let's ditch this dweeb and go get comfy." The man was wearing some sort of symbol on his arm, some dog creature...it was hard for Church to tell what it was. The guy, a Jackal (little did Church know), pulled on the Twi'leks arm. She pulled back and stepped behind Church. Church looked back at her, then at the guy, smiling big. He'd won a girl!

"Go away, we're having fun." Church said and turned his back. That was where the fight started. The fight continued out into the street, first with fists, then with other assorted weapons at hand. The two were fairly evenly matched, ounce for ounce, cup for cup, it was the drunken brawl of the century. That is, until more Jackals showed up, a pair of the guys buddies, and being a tactical thinker, Church retreated a bit, keeping random things between himself and the pack of Jackals. When the new guys pulled out blaster pistols, it was time to call for help. Church ducked behind a building and pressed the panic button on his wristmounted chronometer.

Kado was relaxing in his quarters when the alarms went off. He rolled out of his rack and donned his armor in what would have been record time, if he hadn't practiced it enough that he knew he was only at his middling time. He grabbed his other gear as he made his way to the troop bay to see what was going on. The woman who was the officer on duty in the troop bay saw him and pointed at him.

"You're here first, you're up. Church sent up an SOS, get your squad dirtside and offer assistance." She ordered. Kado nodded, then ran to his BT-7 Thunderclap at the far end of the bay, speaking into his communicator.

"Second squad, meet in my Thunderclap. We go dirtside now." Kado mounted up and ran through the pre-flight. Once everyone who was coming with was on board, he kicked the ship out of the bay and down toward the planet. The beauty of the BT-7 design was that it was meant to go from space to dirt fast and hard. It wasn't a comfortable drop, but within a few minutes they were dirtside. Kado powered down the engines and pulled his helmet on as he turned to those assembled in the troop compartment.

"Sound off and get set. Church needs assistance." He knew Church only peripherally, but Vanguard watched out for their own.

She missed the quietness of her own ship. She missed being able to do what she wanted, when she wanted, and not answering to anyone. Did she like having a locked in place to sleep that wasn't going to get stolen? Yes, but was it really worth getting woken up out of a dead sleep by alarms and having to do Vanguard business? Liona really, really wasn't sure about that. The smuggler groaned, rolling off her sleeper and pulling on what little armor she had. A nice padded vest, a pair of worn boots, and her holster belt. Two pistols shoved into the holsters, some food from earlier shoved in her mouth, and she made her way into the requisite ship.

"Don't worry girl, I'll use ya soon," she said, patting her freighter on the hull. Poor ship hadn't seen the vacuum of space in a week! She was starting to get lonely. She boarded Kado's ship and plopped herself into a seat. 'Dirtside' really? Liona, who'd never really been a military person, couldn't fathom the language some of her fellow Vanguardians used in their speech. She wasn't the best in speaking herself, but at least she used normal nomenclature! (And let's not comment on Kado's flying; Liona was incredibly sure he didn't quite know what the concept of landing gear was with the way he all but face planted them into the planet.)

"... So why exactly are we going to help Church? It's Nar Shaddaa; he either pissed off a Hutt, or there was way too much drinkin' involved," asked the smuggler, resting her hands on her pistols. She was... vaguely aware of Church, much like she was vaguely aware of most of the Vanguard members. He was some sort of new blood, slightly newer than she was. Not that going to help a Vanguard member because they drank too much and started a brawl was bad per say. She'd just rather be asleep.
