OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Nadir
  • Model: NADIR P-SERIES Cards
  • Affiliation: Closed-Market
  • Modularity: Programmable. Color.
  • Production: Mass-Produced
  • Material: Fiber, Circuitry
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Programmable. The card pack can be configured for a certain type of game (Sabacc, Space Poker, Pazaak, etc.). The cards are also programmable “on the fly”, allowing the owner of the cards to adjust whatever they’re holding in their hand to their liking.
  • Stiff, sharpened edge.
Strengths:
  • Sir Cheat-a-lot: The product removes the risk of hiding cards in sleeves, boots, collars, or other conspicuous places, making it much easier and cleaner to cheat at card games. The circuitry is compressed within two layers of fiber, undetectable to the eye.
  • Improvised: In a pinch – or to the skilled – this card pack can also serve as a weapon. The cards carry enough heft and a well-sharpened edge to be used as projectiles. In the hands of a practiced thrower, they can become deadly weapons.
Weaknesses:
  • It’s your head: While the owner may change any cards in the pack at will, they still have to be smart about it. Changing the cards without consideration can result in a game where seven aces end up on the table – along with the owner’s teeth.
  • The house always wins: As a product of Nadir, owners of these card packs would be ill-advised trying to use them on Nadir as well. Many casinos, gambling dens, and backroom games have people on the Syndicate’s payroll. They will periodically check the games for any such cheaters, and will remove them with indiscriminate force when they find them.
  • EMP: Should the cards be hit with an electromagnetic pulse, they will short out and only display a blank face. The whole deck will require a manual reboot to make them work again.
DESCRIPTION

Games are as old as civilisation itself.

So is cheating.

Based on the holographic advances made with the VF, Nadir set off to manufacture something completely different – off of the same idea. The station itself is host to an untold number of casinos and gambling dens, turning dizzying profits on the misery of thousands. The product – Nadir Plus-series Cards – was devised both as a solution to the many cheaters plaguing their halls, as well as a way to arm the criminals leaving the shadowport with new solutions to the evolving counter-measures employed cross-galaxy.

The programmable card pack is the hero that cheaters needed, but didn’t deserve.

With a specific series of touches against a certain point on any card, the owner can choose what they want it to be. All of the functions can be reprogrammed to the user’s liking, from the point of contact to the passcode. What kind of game the pack is geared towards must be configured before the player actually enters the game, as specific card sets are tied to specific games. In-game, the owner can only cycle through the cards of a single game type.

This isn't really a weakness about the item, maybe it would be better to say something along the lines of, "Easily Recognizable" or something along those lines.

I do believe having them be easily recognizable would defeat the purpose of 'cheating cards'.

It's a weakness specific to a single place - the place where these cards were 'invented' and are made, which I think is pretty logical. If you make cheating cards you don't want to be cheated by them.

If you think it needs another weakness on top of this, I happy to work with you, however.

Added the following:
  • EMP: Should the cards be hit with an electromagnetic pulse, they will short out and only display a blank face. The whole deck will require a manual reboot to make them work again.
