HISTORY

Mysa was born the only child of a second-class family on the planet of Serenno with the curse of blindness. Mysa's mother, a firm believer in the ways of the Force, thought it might have been a curse for their sins. Mysa's father, considering himself a more practical man, took it for simply bad luck that they would have to train Mysa to adapt to.

As the child grew, Mysa began to "see" in ways that astounded her parents. Where she used to bump into the tables, she could maneuver around them with ease. There were times young Mysa was able to detect an approaching guest when they were still a mile away from their home. What Mysa's mother thought a curse turned out to be a joyous gift.

"Our child is blessed with the Force!"

Contact was made with members of the Jedi Order to see for themselves if this was true. Two representatives, a human male and a Chiss, came to the Potmos home to test the youngling. Much to joy of Mysa's mother, it was. Even though she was still a young girl, five years old by this point, the Jedi were willing to take Mysa as a student. With a heavy heart, Mysa had to bid farewell to the world she knew and tearfully bid her last goodbyes to her parents.

During the flight to the Jedi Academy, the two Jedi knights had told Mysa inspiring stories of the many great deeds the Jedi accomplished over the millennium, and how she would be part of the grand order that sought to bring peace to the galaxy. But sadly, their ship never reached their destination, for soon the transport was attacked by a Sith Hunter.

The dogfight between the two vessels forced both to crash on the planet Atollon. The male Jedi did not survive, leaving the Chiss to defending himself and Mysa while trying to find a means of rescue. That night, as they tried to make shelter on this seemingly inhibited world, they were attacked by the Sith Hunter; a powerful and deadly trained Togruta who proved more than a match for the Jedi.

"If it is me you want, Sith, then come and claim me!" the Chiss declared.

The Sith made a hissing laugh. "Who said I was here for you?"

To her horror, Mysa realized whom she meant. The chiss, dying in battle, ordered the youngling to run. Unfortunately, she did not get far before being captured by the Sith. Now a prisoner of the Togruta, Mysa was told how she was to be taken to the nearest Sith Academy to be trained in the ways of the Dark Side. Sensing her fear, the Togruta spun her own tales about the powers and accomplishments of the Sith. Of the unnatural power of the Dark Side, and how all the negative emotions Mysa felt could be turned into raw power. The Sith's words had begun to sway young Mysa, as she did not want to be afraid anymore. The Togruta seemed pleased and, as they were forced to wait out the following night before attempt to leave Atollon, she promised Mysa that she would make "a fine Sith" with the proper training.

When she woke, to her horror, Mysa found the Sith was gone. She called out but only heard her echoes answer. Horrified at being left alone, Mysa curled up on the spot and began to weep. She felt helpless, betrayed, lost, and afraid.

"Why are you weeping, little one?" a voice called to her. It was a deep, ancient voice. Mysa felt it. The thing, whatever it was, was behind her. Yet she knew she had felt nothing or no one there before. When she cried to the creature that she did not know where her Sith guide was, the thing bellowed a laugh. "I'm afraid your friend went exploring into the wrong tunnel. She is currently feeding a family of hungry spiders. I shouldn't worry though. It may have been the one good deed she ever accomplished in life." Scared now, Mysa asked whom she was speaking to. "I have been called many things in many lives. But you, little one, may call me the Bendu."

The Bendu, a creature entuned heavily with the Force, listened to Mysa's story of how she came to be. The creature grumbled at the mention of the stories of the Jedi and the Sith, saying how both were considered singular, blinding paths. He told Mysa that her coming to him may not have been pure accident, but the will of the Force working in its grand mystery. The great entity spoke of how others had come to his home of Atollon in the past, often leaving enlightened in some way. The Bendu offered Mysa the chance to learn of the "Path in the Middle".

Mysa accepted, and thus her training began.

In the year that followed, Mysa learned the ways of the Force from the Bendu. She learned of the teachings of the Jedi, who wielded the "Ashla", and those of the Sith, who used the "Bogan". The Bendu's ways taught Mysa that the illusion of "one over the other" was what kept them in constant conflict. There was always a means of "meeting in the middle", for those who could see it. And, as her teacher often poked for amusement, even those who lacked sight could find the Path in the Middle if they knew were to look.

When she reached the age of eight, the Bendu gave Mysa her first gift. He presented three objects in front of her and, using his powers, kept her blind to what they were. The Bendu told Mysa that what she would choose would determine if she was worthy of his continued training. Sensing her hesitation out of fear, the Bendu reminded Mysa that it would be the will of the Force regardless. In the end, Mysa picked the object directly in front of her, discovering it to be the Sith lightsaber now purified into a blade of white light.

"You have chosen wisely," said the Bendu before bellowing another laugh.

From there, in the decades that followed, the Bendu taught more ways of the Force and lightsaber combat to Mysa. She grew into a skilled warrior and a wise woman, communing with the natural elements of the planet around her. She had even learned to use her Force sight to foresee potential future events, describing it as a "series of star ways all leading to the same destination".

After a long time of training and mastering her abilities, the Bendu sat Mysa down for her final gifts. The first was a mask to cover her face. "It is a practice among some clans of the Mandalore. To not show your face to anyone, unless you feel a certain connection. The future is not fully seen, nor should you be, little Mysa." Donning the headpiece, she discovered that the mask in fact heightened her connection to the Force, as well as keeping her thoughts clouded from others. "You don't want anyone peeking, do you?" the Bendu laughed.

After thanking him for the gift, the Bendu told Mysa that there was one more to give. And once that gift was bestowed, it would be time for her to finally leave Atollon. Confused, Mysa did not want to leave her master, the creature she had come to know like a father. The Bendu grumbled and told her that he was no one's master, only a guide. Heartbroken, Mysa asked what the final gift was before she would leave the Bendu.

"A gift of words, little Mysa. Remember this: no one is truly blind. There are only those who refuse to open their eyes."

Those were the last words Mysa heard from the Bendu, for no sooner did he speak them did the great creature vanish without a trace. In that same moment, a ship touched down onto the planet. The vessel was a wayward cargo transport that touched down for repairs. Mysa, the words of her Bendu still echoing in her mind, approached the crew. Despite their shock at finding a woman living on such a remote planet, the captain agreed to take Mysa off world.

When he asked the strange woman where she wanted to go, Mysa looked to the sky and answered "Wherever the Force will lead me."
