SPECIAL FEATURES

Provides an alternative form of actuation for droids and armour, replacing micro-hydraulics as a means of movement.

Strengths:

We can rebuild him, we have the technology:
The Myomer Actuation System provides a greater force than standard droid actuators, allowing a greater strength and speed to be achieved than the standard actuators.

On the prowl:
The Myomer Actuation is a biomimetic system, a mechanical reproduction of a natural system. As such it is able to replicate a much smoother and more natural movement than a normal droid would be able to reproduce.

Weaknesses:

Have you been working out?
Bulkier than normal droid actuators, much like muscle it requires a mass to act rather than a single motor on each limb.

She’s coming apart captain:
Although the Myomer Actuation System does provide more power than standard droid actuators, it also puts more strain on the frame than a standard actuator, requiring a stronger ‘skeleton to allow it to move and not rip apart. When used in armour the myomer muscles need a limiter to protect the user, providing more power than an actuator, but at the risk of physical harm.

Just hold on
Unlike hydraulic actuators the Myomer Muscles can’t be locked into position. Actuators only require power when moving and can therefore be locked into place as a means to conserve power. Myomer however relaxes back to a neutral state when unpowered, meaning that it is not the ideal choice in a system which is required to hold a position for a long time. While it is more powerful the Myomer Actuation System is also much more power intensive than Hydraulic actuators.

DESCRIPTION

In their quest to build better and better technology Locke and Key Mechanics went back to the drawing board when it came to their ability to move a droid or armour system. They were aware of the rise of biomimetic systems across the galaxy so got to thinking, why not apply the same principle to the movement of their products. The result was a artificial muscle that allowed them to impart more power at the cost of an increased mass required, and a greater power drain. Not a replacement for hydraulic actuators, but an alternative to it.
