Duchess Myaja Kwan was born on the lush world of Avenar, a planet renowned for its untouched wilderness, protected oceans, and deeply rooted conservation culture. Raised among wildlife preserves and coastal sanctuaries, Myaja was taught from an early age that nature was not simply a resource to be used, but a living system deserving of stewardship and respect. Her family, long associated with environmental advocacy and regional leadership, instilled in her a profound sense of responsibility toward the natural world.
Driven by a fascination with oceanic ecosystems, Myaja later traveled to Naboo to attend the prestigious Theed Academy, where she specialized in marine sciences and eventually earned a doctorate in marine biology. Her academic work focused primarily on predatory marine species, migratory behaviors, and the ecological importance of apex ocean creatures commonly referred to as sharks within Naboo's waters.
Following her studies, Myaja established herself on Lualani Island, where she became one of the leading researchers associated with the growing marine sanctuary and research initiatives surrounding Lalani Cove. Her work studying Naboo's reefs, deepwater ecosystems, and large marine fauna earned recognition from both scientific communities and environmental advocacy groups throughout the Republic.
Beyond her research, Duchess Kwan became increasingly outspoken against the industrial expansion threatening her homeworld of Avenar. Concerned by growing corporate interest in offshore extraction, shipping infrastructure, and large-scale development projects, she began using both her academic reputation and noble status to campaign for stronger ecological protections.
In recent years, Myaja has devoted much of her political energy toward petitioning the Galactic Republic during the High Republic Era to formally recognize Avenar as a protected conservation world under Republic oversight. Her efforts emphasize sustainable stewardship, scientific preservation, and the belief that ecological worlds like Avenar represent irreplaceable galactic treasures.
