OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a sensor scrambler for future submissions.
  • Canon Link: N/A
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Primary Source: N/A
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Roble Manufacturing
  • Affiliation: Closed Market
  • Model: MXC-119 Ark Sensor Scrambler
  • Modularity: The number of bogus ship signals can be modified depending on the user's wishes, including using a specific number or randomizing.
  • Production: Mass-Produced
  • Material:
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • The Ark Sensor Scrambler emits a number of bogus signals that are incorrectly inferred by enemy scanners and tracking systems to be individual ships. The number of signals emitted can be modular, but the scrambler is only capable of emitting a signal that projects a ghost ship that is the same model as the ship where the signal is originating.
  • The ships created by the bogus signals will fly at the same speed and vectors as the original ship that the signals are being projected from.
STRENGTHS
  • Strength in Numbers: The Ark is capable of emitting various phony signals that make it appear to trackers and sensors as if there are multiple ships instead of one. This can lead point-defense systems to expend ammunition and time against a ghost target, adding to the lifespan of the ship employing the Ark.
WEAKNESSES
  • Anti-Stealth: Although the Ark is technically a stealth technology, it is also by definition the opposite of one; to use the Ark, a ship is essentially announcing its presence to all point-defense systems, starfighters, and scanners within the area. In addition to that, the false ships projected by the Ark will appear to fly along the same vectors and at the same speeds as the original ship; effectively mirroring the ship and giving a chance for opposing crews to determine which ship is the true offender. Suffice to be said, the Ark is thereby incompatible with other stealth technologies.
  • Visuals: The Ark is not a cloaking device, and cannot fool technologies as common as eyesight.
DESCRIPTION
The MXC-T19 Ark Sensor Scrambler is designed by Roble Manufacturing to be, in essence, a signal duplicator -- the Ark is able to project signals that fool scanners and tracking systems into perceiving more ships than there actually are deployed. The number of original signals, or bogus ships, is modular and can be adjusted depending on a ship or crew's requirements, but the technology is only limited to projecting the same type of 'ghost' ship as the original ship itself. This, and the fact that using the technology actually requires the inferred announcing of the original ship's presence, makes the Ark almost the anti-thesis of true stealth technology. All in all, the Ark is a capable technology, full of potential for future applications in warfare.

As you say this system is a stealth system and therefore according to factory rules can only be subbed at semi-unique or unique. I have quoted the relevant rule for you below.

Particularly rare or powerful special features may necessitate using a lower level of production (cloaking technology, personal cloaking devices, gemcutters, crystal grav traps, moon dust, equivalent stealth or anti stealth technologies), or rare canon technologies (Hyperwave Inertial Momentum Sustainers, etc) and their equivalents will only be permitted at Semi-Unique production.

Actually I disagree with you on that for the simple reason that overwhelming enemy sensors would have the same effect as a stealth system, allowing the ship to avoid being fired on in combat.

Removing the feature that scrambles the original ship's location is a good start. But at the same time, this isn't a technology I feel should be allowed at mass-produced.

I removed the ability for the scrambler to cloak the ship's own signature, as well as added a new stipulation that the ghost ships essentially are mirrors of the original vessel -- they fly along the exact vector and at the same speed as regular ships, which would mean that theoretically with some big brain work point defense crews could figure out which is the real ship. In addition, I'd like to point out that the scrambler wouldn't be very useful in Star Wars dogfighters or other scenarios where visuals are relied upon.
