Private Mutually Assured Friendship

During her time under the tutelage of Kahlil Noble, Katherine had learned that she sucked at the more spiritual aspects of the Force. Meditation was simply impossible, which her Master speculated was due to her nature as a Sithspawn. Apparently a general component of those experiments consisted of harshly twisting the being’s connection to the Force.

There was a silver lining however, the experiments done on Katherine hadn’t been finalised. Whatever her captors were intending on her to become, it was never fully realised. Which meant one of two things.

A glimmer of hope that she’d eventually be able to properly tap into the Lightside of the Force, albeit at a slower rate than usual.

Or, the interrupted nature of the experiments had irreparably damaged her connection to it.

Katherine feared the latter was true, especially given the fact she couldn’t really utilise abilities like Force Sense. Sure, she could get a handle of the very minimum basics. Being able to sense danger once it was close enough, that sort of thing. But trying to sense other beings? It was impossible.

Until today.

The Padawan had returned from a minor mission that had taken her elsewhere on Coruscant. But the moment she stepped into the Jedi Temple, she immediately felt a ‘tug’ at the corner of her mind. It confused Katherine for a few minutes, until she followed the thread and felt something familiar.

Sith. The Darkside of the Force.

To say it piqued Katherine’s curiosity would be understating it. She made an immediate beeline through the temple, to whatever, or rather whomever the source of this presence was.

Being in the temple was still surreal. And, well, somewhat frightening. There was danger. No matter how much Aliris knew that wasn't true, she couldn't help but feel danger. She hated that feeling more than anything. That she wasn't safe, that she didn't belong. Worse, that she was a danger to others. While she knew the paranoia of her being in danger wasn't true, she did understand that she was, in fact, a time bomb.

They'd help her, she knew that much, but the spirit within her wasn't so easily cleansed or removed. Her death would likely be the only way to outright kill the First. They could weaken, suppress, but never destroy.

At least they had a good library to read in. Which is where she was, at one of the tables, idly perusing one of the datacrons on such cleansings. Possession had many clear, accurate rules. And yet what she had to deal with wasn't anything that made sense. It was frustrating. But at least she was learning stuff. Maybe she'd be able to figure it out, eventually. Until she noticed quick movement and white wings.

She blinked, looking up towards the girl that had appeared close by. Looking at her. Oh no. Was this that moment she'd been dreading? A Jedi who did recognize her, who wanted her dead? Inwardly she cursed. .. No. No, give them a chance. Don't assume the worst.

"Uh.. Hi."

Katherine followed her Force Sense like a thread, leading her through the Temple to wherever this stranger was. A small smile formed when she realised the Archives was her destination. It seemed whoever this person was, they were of a similar mind wanting to spend time in the expansive library.

The moment she stepped through the archive’s doorway, she looked around trying to pinpoint the source. Kara quickly sighted a blonde teenager sitting by herself, and felt confident she was the person she had been sensing.

So without much thought put towards her approach, Katherine walked straight over to her. It was only when she was there, looking down at the girl, that it finally clicked. That look of apprehension, that made Katherine feel like she was looking at a mirror.

Damn it, I didn’t exactly think this through…

This is probably gonna sound a bit odd.Great Kat, wonderful start. My name’s Katherine, I’m a Sithspawn.

Huh?

Aliris stared for a moment longer. Sithspawn? She heard that right, right? Her gaze drifted from Katherine's face to the wings behind her. Was that- she wasn't too sure what the Sithspawn type was, but that had to be what the wings were, right? Maybe. She cleared her throat after a second before nodding.

".. It does sound a bit odd. Um. I'm Aliris. .. What's uh, did you need something or..?"

Katherine blinked, unable to provide an answer for Aliris’ question. In her excitement, she had practically marched through the Temple to find the mysterious person she had been sensing. For what? Just to find the answer to it, was that really all to it?

But then Padawan remembered the look she had seen from the blonde upon sighting her. Whatever she was, or had been, was in a similar place to herself when she had first arrived. And much in the same vein as Kahlil helping her find her own determination, Katherine wanted to help someone who was in the same shoes as her.

Can I take this seat?” She asked first, figuring it was best to be polite. “I’ve been struggling to use any real form of Sense since I started training, likely due to my nature. That was until literal minutes ago, where I stepped into the Temple and sensed well…you.” Katherine paused, realising she still sounded rather odd or weird.

You’re Sith right? Or well previously speaking.” She made sure to speak a bit more quietly, assuming Aliris wouldn’t want others overhearing. “There’s at least something within you that drew upon my Force Sense.

"Yeah, go ahead. I'm not.. It's fine to si.."

Her voice died off as Katherine continued. Sith. It wasn't really a secret, but Aliris's whole form tensed visibly. This wasn't a conversation she was expecting to have with another Padawan. Or a Sithspawn. Fear, panic, they welled in the back of her mind before she finally took a breath and nodded. A far too nervous smile formed as she tried not to let it get to her. It wasn't like this girl had come to threaten her, right?

"I.. Was, yeah. For a bit."

Internally, Katherine wanted to facepalm herself. Why had she not put some actual thought in this, before approaching Aliris? It was clear even to her that the Padawan opposite was panicking inside. Katherine had seen it in herself, felt it within herself.

I want to help.” She said all of a sudden, continuing the apparent trend of just blurting things out. Katherine took a breath, collecting her thoughts first before speaking again. “I know what it feels like, to feel as though people are staring at you with suspicion. That they somehow know. That fear of someone potentially attacking you. Being at-” Katherine cut herself off, reminding herself of the incident with the civilian.

I want to help you feel more comfortable being here.

Help?

Aliris stared at the girl for a long moment of silence before she cleared her throat and closed her eyes. Help her feel safe? That's what it seemed to amount to. Her gaze turned back to the tablet she was looking through, and eventually she cleared her throat. Smiled.

No, no more doubt.

".. Then, we can help each other."
