GENERAL INFORMATION

Name: Morvyn
Designation: Semi-Sentient
Origins: Regions where the veil between realspace and the Netherworld of the Force is thin. Most commonly found on swamp worlds, ancient battlefields, and heavily corrupted ecosystems.
Average Lifespan: 30–40 standard year
Estimated Population: Scattered

Description
Morvyn are small, winged carrion creatures believed to form spontaneously in locations where the boundary between the living world and the Netherworld has weakened. Their bodies appear to be composed of dead plant matter, fungal fibers, and bone-like growths bound together by faint Force energies. Despite their unsettling appearance, Morvyn are not inherently malicious creatures; they are mischievous scavengers that thrive on decay. They live in social flocks with loose hierarchies and are known to form lifelong bonds with a chosen mate, occasionally even bonding with a sentient individual.

PHYSICAL INFORMATION

Breathes: Type I atmosphere
Average Height of Adults: 0.35 meters
Average Length of Adults: 0.6 meters (including tail)
Skin color: Charcoal black, bark brown, moss green
Hair color: N/A

Distinctions: Morvyn bodies resemble twisted plant constructs rather than flesh. Their skeletal frames are formed from hardened root-like structures and fungus-thread fibers. They have long grasping claws for climbing and tearing carrion and flexible joints that allow them to cling to trees, walls and even cave ceilings. Their antennae are capable of detecting rot and decay. Their wings resemble those of insects or decaying leaves, often torn or translucent and produce no sound when flying. Their most distinctive feature is their glowing eyes, which emit green or yellow bioluminescent light. Young Morvyn appear darker and softer, gradually becoming more bark-like and rigid with age. Older individuals often develop moss or fungal growths across their bodies. There is little visual difference between males and females.

Races: None Documented

Force Sensitivity: All
Morvyn possess a natural connection to the Force due to their origin near the Netherworld. This manifests primarily as an ability to sense death, decay, and emotional disturbances and also allows them to communicate with emotional impressions.

Strengths
  • Swarm Behavior: Individually weak, Morvyn become dangerous when operating in flocks. They coordinate instinctively and can overwhelm larger creatures through harassment and numbers.
  • Decay Sense: Morvyn can detect death, rot, and dying organisms across considerable distances.
Weaknesses
  • Physically Fragile: Their plant-like bodies are easily damaged by weapons, fire, or environmental hazards.
  • Dependent on Rot: Without a steady supply of decaying organic matter, Morvyn grow weak and lethargic.
  • Force Nullification: because of their connection to the Netherworld and their dependence on the force to detect their food source, Morvyn become panicked and disorientated withing force nullification fields and will do anything to get free of them, including harming members of their flock or themselves to do so.
CULTURE

Diet: Other (Carrion/Decay feeder)
Common foods include:
  • Rotting flesh
  • Dead plant matter
  • Fungi
  • Organic waste
Fresh food rarely interests them unless it has begun decomposing.
They play an ecological role similar to scavengers, accelerating the breakdown of dead organisms.

Communication:Morvyn communicate through a mix of chirping clicks, wing vibrations and subtle emotional impressions through the force. Flocks can communicate simple intentions rapidly, making them appear eerily coordinated. When bonded with a sentient being, a Morvyn can sometimes convey simple emotions such as curiosity, amusement, or warning.
Technology level: None
Religion/Beliefs: None

General behavior:
Morvyn are intensely social creatures, gathering in loos flocks that typically number between six and thirty individuals. Within these groups, hierarchy is subtle rather than rigid. One or two of the oldest Morvyn tend to drift into positions of quiet authority, guiding the flock through instinct, experience, and an almost eerie awareness of danger. Pair bonds form early and are remarkably enduring, with mated pairs remaining devoted for life. These pairs rarely separate from their flock, instead functioning as tightly knit units within the larger collective, reinforcing the group’s cohesion without strict structure.

Despite their unsettling appearance, Morvyn possess a curious, almost playful nature that manifests in persistent mischief. They are drawn to movement, sound, and anything out of place, often stealing small shiny objects, startling unsuspecting travelers, or interfering with equipment simply to observe the outcome. Their curiosity can take a darker turn, as they have been known to lead predators toward weakened prey, less out of malice and more from an instinctive fascination with the cycle of decay. When threatened, they do not stand and fight but instead erupt into chaos, darting through the air in erratic patterns, circling their foe while emitting sharp, disorienting screeches intended to confuse and overwhelm.

On rare occasions, a Morvyn will form an imprint bond with a sentient being, typically one that has fed or protected it. These individuals may follow their chosen companion with surprising loyalty, behaving in ways that resemble a devoted, if unpredictable, pet. Even so, their mischievous instincts never fully fade, and their presence often brings as much trouble as companionship. Primarily nocturnal, Morvyn are most active under the cover of darkness, when their glowing eyes flicker through the shadows like drifting embers, and their flocks come alive with restless, chittering energy.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Morvyn are believed to originate in places where the boundary between the living world and the Netherworld of the Force has thinned to a fragile veil. Force scholars theorize that they are not born in a traditional sense, but instead form spontaneously when decaying organic matter absorbs ambient Force energy in environments saturated by death or spiritual disturbance. This phenomenon has been observed across a range of grim locations, from ancient battlefields and abandoned Sith worlds to swamps thick with rotting biomass, sites of catastrophic loss of life, and even unstable Netherworld convergence points.

Initially dismissed by early explorers as little more than unusual scavengers, Morvyn later drew the attention of scholars due to their distinct and persistent Force resonance. Their populations are erratic and unpredictable, appearing suddenly in the aftermath of war, plague, or ecological collapse, then vanishing just as quickly once the environment stabilises. Entire flocks may emerge within a few years on worlds steeped in death, only to dwindle as the abundance of decay fades.

Many Force-sensitive observers believe Morvyn serve an unintentional but vital role as natural scavengers of death energy, helping to dissipate the lingering spiritual residue that accumulates in places overwhelmed by loss. Despite their unsettling origins and appearance, they rarely pose a direct threat to the living, attacking only when starving or in defense of their flock. Nevertheless, their habit of appearing in the wake of disaster, combined with their eerie forms and glowing eyes, has led many cultures to view them as omens of death or ill fortune.

Morvyn are instinctively drawn to moments and locations of transition, where life gives way to decay. Some scholars suggest they are partially sustained not only by physical rot, but by the subtle release of Force energy that accompanies death itself. In more superstitious societies, they are sometimes regarded as messengers of spirits or guides between realms, though there is little evidence to suggest true awareness or intent behind their presence beyond instinct and survival.
